Monster Octo Copter 1100mm M2M

Hi friends,

It has a big even coming in urgent and support friend, I have to stop the Quad Copter build for FoxtechFPV 48-22 motor test in two days for this project The Monster Octo with 1100mm M2M. Sorry FoxtechFPV for this delay, the 48-22 quad will be started back today and be finishing by tomorrow.
The target of this project: Monster Octocopter 1100mm M2M is build a giant heavy octocopter which can carry the 5DMAX2 or even sony FS100 for Air Video production.
The configuration of this copter:
- Kit DIY carbon fiber with 2mm carbon plate and 21.5mm carbon tube from 600 size helicopter tail boom. The Plastic Boom Block is also Home make. Kit will be 1100mm Motor to Motor in size.
- Flycontrol is K-Woong DJI firmware 5.08 since the 5.12 seem to have problems with Octo config.
- Motor Tiger MT-3515 400Kv with 15x5" carbon props, driving by Hk F-40A ESC reflask with Simonk firmware at 5S 6000mAh x 2 packs.
-Camera Gimbal will be Cinestart with cinestar Freefly Gimbal control for Roll and Pitch. The YAw will be control by Futaba GY- 240 headlock gyro.
Some pictures of build process to shared with you all, please give advise to help this project.
The ESC and power distributed board assebply, This ESCs are very easy to ReFlask since the programing port is in line with round dot so easy to make connection for reflash. These has been reflash with Simonk firmware version Jun 2012. Thansk Simonk for loverly firmware.

Cool! I can copy some details here for my built next, also to carry 5D..
Since you are doing motor test for the 4822, are you testing the thrust and efficiency? Are you doing also for this monster's Tiger MT3515? Would like to know what is result like..

i plan to use 6S.. Is there any motor and ESC match with your experience?

The other clip of maiden after the call stop
Octo size 1100 part 2 (1 min 3 sec)

I will do all the load test and flight time test.
The T3515 also good in 6S but I like the 5S with big carbon props :-)
I will update new test video and also load test by this weekend when I got time.
I do test the W48-22 also , the quad is ready but the weather .

This kit is 3.75kgs without battery anf the gimbal. It flys 20 minutes with 2 packs of 5600mAh 5S 25C GenAce make total flight weight of 5.3kg. I will do full load test by this weekend. The monster is on the way to DALAT city for some waterfall video capture.

Caotri, how the the weekend test gone? Any beer showering?

#11 caotri Oct 12, 2012 05:10 AM

i did test last fews day with 0.75L bootle on each arms the octo can take off ok and fly well. The esc and motor do not get even warm but the battery 5s 5200mah 25C from genace get hot. actually the genace i boght this time is bad . i bought 6 packs, one die when they arrived, the other die after 2 rounds. I will take this octo to An Giang province for video take this week and will try the 6s 35C 5000mahs Pulse battery from our trex 700. The gimbal is 3D cinestars and D7000 camera.

Congrats! Batt issue easy to resolve. Wish you all the best!
Have you measure the power & current consumption on take off, full throttle and hover? It will need telemetry to record them tho..

Great idea Pro .. there is one vendor that makes both an on-board data logger and an OSD .. forget which maker, but for such an awesome build, certain justified I think.

@caotri .. surprised you used the booms for lifting .. I'm guessing close to the body. Eight times 0.75 liter is 6 Liters .. that's 6 Killograms amigo, plus the tare of the bottles. No wonder the battery got warm .. LOL Sure would be interesting to know your grams per watt with that monster :D Nice goin'

Ahh yes .. that's the one. If he can carry 6kg of water .. no problem for lift overhead :)
