HighVoltage servos for FS3
 
My Freestyler3 needs new servos and I`m thinking og going for a high voltage set up. What are the best alternatives out there?
The Freestyler has traditional linkages, no RDS.
I need servos for both wing and fuse.

there are a few. Do you have flat servo covers or a bump?

There is the new hitec 7115th. There is a HV version of the sanwa 762.

Life or Lipo?

I`m currently running a Hyperion 1450mAh LiFe and regulator.
I have flat servocovers.

you want to remove the regulator?

It will need to be thin servo on the ailerons then.

Yes, my intention is to get rid of the regulator.
The servos in the model is old and worn out, they have developed alot of gearslop over a few year F3F use.

Interesting thread I hope some people have some experience with these servos.

I am interested in the new hitec servo, but you don't always want to be the first.

I am definately not interrested in Hitec as long they have tested by the F3J/B community for one season. ...Or make it two seasons...:) But I am very interrested in sensible hig voltage 2x Life setup - that is future!

I used the new JR DS398HV servos in my Perfections in South Africa. I found there was a temperature issue with the trim on the first batch of the origional JR DS388 HV servos and they did not center very well. The new ones are awesome! They seem to use different model names throughout the regions of the World. Here is the link to Horizon for North America:

I have MKS servos in my Maxa and have had no issues but they do not make high voltage servos as yet. Very good servos! I run a 4 cell Elite NiMh in the Maxa.

I am a convert to LiFe packs (Hyperion 1450mA).Never liked the idea of a regulator.

RDS frames and splines are available for the JR's for my new Fosa :)

With the notable exception of some models of MKS servos just about any servo rated for 5-cell NiMH (6v) will easily handle an unregulated 2S LiFe pack. I run nothing but 2S Hyperion LiFePO4 packs without regulator in everything I fly. My X3.8, Aspire and AVA Pro all have Futaba S3150 servos in them, never a single issue with them (and they are rated at 4.8 volts by Futaba). I have 3 helis and two pattern planes also running the unregulated 2S LiFe packs. No issues.

I have several friends flying JR that are using 2S LiFe unregulated with the DS390HV in the fuse and the DS398HV in the wings. Seems to be a solid setup.

LiFe / Lipo
 
The JR DS 398/390 HV's can handle a Lipo if you want. I ran the old 388's on
a Lipo in my Supras. The LiFe is less volatile. Everyone that I have talked to that use them love them. I'm told you should "always" balance charge the 2S Hyperion LiFePO4 packs to get the longest life out of them.

The New JR servos are also much quieter than the old ones.

There is also a high voltage version of the Futaba 3150, just don't let the s-bus confuse you. It can of course be used as is, s-bus or without s-bus:

does anybody know the difference between JR DS 378 HV and JR DS 398 HV?
Looks to me like they are the same servo.`
I`m thinking og going with one of these for the wing and maybe a JR z3650 for v-tail

I hope the new jr graupner hv servo is good. To be honest the graupner ds3288 had absolutely terrible centering.

The 378 is the old servo (same case as new 390) . The new model DS390HV has new internals and is improved. The 378 and 390 has the lugs on the case to go in the fuse. May be different name in Europe.

See the FS4 build thread - I used Sanwa HV. ALso used them in my AlliaJ.
Running off Hyperion LiFe 2100 packs.

Also in the FS4 thread see how I made the 2100 pack smaller. I have also installed the same pack in my FS3 - currently that has 3150 in wings and Graupners in the fus. The fus servos are protected with MKS individual in line regulators. The 3150 wing servos (FS3) are on longer wires and plugs which may drop V v slightly and seem to be a robust servo so taking a chance here.
The MKS regulators also work as a fuse on each line so it is worth considering installing them on every surface, they may just save your model if one servo fails.
My Needle DSL has them throughout.
Of course you are adding another component but with individual ones at least one failure may not be terminal.
