Romney Gave 1,000 Times as Much to Charity in a Year as Biden Gave in a Decade

When you think it's an individual's job to care for what you think of as charity, you spend your own money, willingly. When you think it's someone else's job, you argue for the State to spend their money, and hang onto your own, having outsourced your morality.

Quote:

The release of Mitt Romney’s 2011 tax returns shows that he freely gave away more than $4 million to charity last year (about 30 percent of his income). In comparison, when Joe Biden was first running for vice president, his tax returns showed that he had given away just $3,690 to charity over the previous ten years (about 0.2 percent of his income). In other words, Romney gave away a thousand times as much to charity in one year as Biden gave in a decade.
That selfish Romney....;)

Obama gave away more (%)

:)

Or they will take away his planet. The secular charity goes to the family organization, ran by family.

When you earn 100 bucks a week a one dollar donation is the same as a million dollars if your earning 100 million

Straight forward enough!

So he gave POINT TWO percent away did he

WOW..........................

That's why the OP didn't mention that.........once again, more of that Intellectual Dishonesty.

Why would someone choose a comparison of the standing VP and a candidate for President? ;)

Never ceases to amaze me how few liberal people think that percentage is a valid way to measure giving, until it puts their guy in a favorable light.

Mitt Romney's presidential campaign is releasing a brief summary of 20 years of tax returns on Friday, and his accountant says it will show he gave 13.45 percent of his adjusted gross income to charities.

That's nearly twice the rate of President Obama, who according to his tax returns from 2000 through 2011 donated just less than 7 percent of his adjusted gross income to charities.

this is what some on the right don't get....The hardship of giving away 1 buck when you make 100. Absolute numbers is all that matters for them, not the %

Altruism is for losers ... everyone knows that the only giving that counts is the taxes we give to the Government.

#10 MtnGoat Sep 24, 2012 11:54 AM

Part of the reason I posted this. The defenses illuminate the basis of the views held. In this case, we see the percentage game being gamed so long as their guy comes out ahead, but then when it comes to taxes, why, we can't use percentage of income paid to judge equality.

Not really. When I made $7000 in one year, it was just as easy to give away the same percentage, as when I made $100k.

You libs crack me up. You argue for state control of our money on a regular basis, yet you STILL demean a man who gave away $4,000,000. Priceless.

uh..no. It's in response to criticisms from the right that Obama didn't give away nearly as much as Romney.

I understand the attempt to avoid mathematics in favor of applying subjectives to measure 'hardship' perfectly well.
