I'd like to come, I picked up an assassin from lee and will be my first combat wing.

Do you have any info on swarm for a noob?

Bring a plane, let everyone fly into it! Best if done on video.

#5 jetpackninja Jul 18, 2012 03:27 PM

Great thing about the sWARm

Noob or expert pilot you are likely to get some decent combat hits

Fly your own plane- don't take your eyes off of it even if you hear a loud crunch or thump right behind you

If you do crash just scream YES! really loud. Everybody will think you just had a sweet combat hit and think your are one of the cool kids.

Just being on the flight line is an experience in itself. The videos do not do the sound of the mass launch justice. It is one of those things that have to be experienced in person.

Absolutely true. Quite the rush.

If you have a mobile charger (generator, aligator clips for car battery, etc), I'd bring that, or if you have the money, I think you're better off just getting as many batteries as you can. That was my one regret this past swarm--not being able to fly my smaller planes as much as I wanted, because I don't have that many 1300 batts.

Oh, and cash for pizza, sodas, and the raffles.

Fellow noob here....I went to the swarm earlier this year but didn't fly...just as an observer. There really isn't anything to it, from what I saw, you walk up to where others are flying from, (trying not to crowd the next guy over) toss your wing or craft up and have fun! I went this past saturday for the first time as a pilot to the sod farm, just to get my feet wet and get used to flying with a group of planes. At first I just followed the group getting used to keeping track of my wing in the group, and then I just started imitading what others were doing. And that was it! Albeit, there wasn't a large number of wings, but there was enough to build my confidence. So now I plan on being at the sod farm most saturdays to further improve my skills and confidence.

YUP- basically just show up and be prepared to have fun.
Bring as many wings as you own and be prepared to fly as long as you want to ;)
Combat is obviously the name of the game but the farm is big enough for flying anything you are willing to risk in a dense environment.
In the past we have had DLG demos, formation flying demos, last time Lee pretty much did a newbie corner at the north end of the farm.

Spawn- have you been out flying with us? If not- GET DOWN to the FARM

Ryan- Didn't get to meet everybody that showed up. Had a great time at the farm and had a larger than normal bunch of people show up (at least for this summer).

John- Pizza and Pop have been lifesavers at the last few sWARms. Do it again!

#9 BlenderBoy Jul 18, 2012 06:26 PM

Sounds like a blast, count me in. Is an assassin gonna be good enough?

I havnt been to the farm yet, I'll make it down in the next couple weekends.

#10 jetpackninja Jul 18, 2012 06:32 PM

No airplane out there takes the hits like an Assassin.
If you only going to show up with one plane that would be my first pick.

BUT YANKEES SUCK

No airplane out there deals out the hits like the Grim Reaper.
Either one of these planes would serve you well in the sWARm.
Having both would just multiply your fun factor.

Since there are newbies present we should probably lay out the rules of courtesy and etiquette that apply to this particular thread.

THERE AREN'T ANY

It is appropriate to discuss all things sWARm and UnCivil war here.
But remember the primary purpose of this thread is to perpetuate the rivalry between the North and the South. For the purposes of this thread and your upcoming participation in the UnCivil War, if you live north of the boundary between Utah and Salt Lake county, you are a Yankee. Yes, I pity you but do not mistake that for weakness. Your plane WILL be knocked out of the sky.

Bring on the trash talk northern scum. If you have the heart for it

#12 BlenderBoy Jul 18, 2012 07:09 PM

So how do you determine who wins?

Either way, if history repeats itself I have no doubt the north with prevail and the south will parish

I was there a little late...10ish, but I tried to introduce myself to anyone who I bumped into. I'm pretty sure I was flying next to you when the rain started to come down....since your shirt basically gave you away.

I plan on being down at the farm again this Saturday morning...8 or 9 ish...

The South wins every time. Sorry.

BUT YES, THE YANKEES DO SUCK EGGS!

Jon, you seem to be the default moderator. I propose an additional event--what do you think? All the Rebs line up together on the left, and the Yanks on the right. Mass launch, but the Rebs all turn north, and the Yanks all turn south, and we see how many head-ons we can get at the start of a combat session!
