Thank you everyone for this absolute awesome event!

1st FPV Meetup San Diego North County
September 29th, 2012 from 7:30am at Dave's Beach, Carlsbad, CA

It's official: Our first North County FPV Meetup will be held on September 22nd, 2012 at Dave's Beach in Carlsbad.

This meetup is all about FPV, FPV Flying and sharing information. Invited are experts as well newcomers who want to check out FPV.

We will have a schedule but nothing is strict. However we will do a safety check on each plane/equipment that will fly during the meetup.

7:30am to 8:30 am Pilot Checkin and Equipment Safety Check
8:30am to 9:00am Welcome Note and Introductions
10:00am to 11:00am Workshop (see below)

The rest of day is just flying!

Since we expect a few newcomers, I thought that we hold a little workshop. The workshop basically encompasses what you need to get started in FPV and avoid the mistakes we all made :-)

Guest Speakers welcome! Let me know if you interested.

Also we will offer "Demo Rides". I have a 2nd pair of Goggles to give non-pilots the chance to experience FPV first-hand. Let me know if anyone else is interested in helping with this.

Here are some important reminders. See the attached flyer for more information.

1) Parking is limited and only permitted in the designated area. Try to be early there. Remember that we need to share the parking lot with surfers, beach goers and other RC Flyers.

2) There will be potential RC Gliders operating at the same time. Be respectful and share the field :-) Announce take-off and landings if necessary.

3) We suggest that you have enabled and tested RTH (Return To Home). Remember we fly on the Open Ocean and if something goes wrong then there is probably limited chances to get your plane back.

Please make sure you fill out the form below if you attend, so we can plan the frequency map/slots (if necessary).

This is going to be fun day and I hope to you see you all soon!

Kicking off the idea of a FPV Meetup in the San Diego North County Area.

I propose the following location:

The park is called DSP (Dog S** Park, because they are often Dogs there). Great flying field with tons of landing area and a little paved "runway". It's not an official flying field.

So who is in? Any idea?

Date: Maybe June, July, August?

Last week in July?

It's not to far from Dave's Beach so why not. Throw a date out there and I'll see if I'm in town.

I think Dave's Beach is about 5min away from DSP ... DSP is larger and offers more parking.. but hey we could also have it at Dave's Beach :-)

I contacted the city what is feasible.

Talked with the City today and it's probably Dave's Beach!

Where's Dave's Beach?

Weekend of the 28 or 29 July?

#7 typicalaimster May 25, 2012 08:56 PM

Dave's beach is up in Carlsbad. It's a bit of a drive, but was a fun place to fly.

I haven't flown FPV there yet. I was planning on going back up and give it a whirl. The small cliffs give some good lift and I started getting the hang of sloping the Skywalker..

Dave's Beach - May 11th, 2012 (4 min 2 sec)

From my understanding, Carlsbad kinda turned a blind eye at Dave's Beach. It's a non-AMA field and a non controlled flying site.

It's actually in their municipal code that this area as well public turf can be used for RC flying:

11.32.030 CMC Unlawful Acts

(32)To use radio or remote controlled model aircraft or similar devices excepting the beach area west of Carlsbad Boulevard, between Palomar Airport and Solamar Drive, and excepting on any park's natural turf baseball fields from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., only if a scheduled league game or practice is not occurring, or as otherwise permitted by the city manager or his/her designee provided appropriate signs are installed giving adequate notice of such excepted areas.

Nice! At least they're pretty easy going with the rules. Where I lived before flat out banned the use of RC in any county park.

Y'all still up for 28 or 29 July?

#11 typicalaimster Jun 28, 2012 08:50 AM

Doable.. I'll have to pick up some rubber bands for the Skywalker. Sorry I didn't make it to the SEFSD meeting! My flight back to SD was delayed!

#12 flyandi Jun 28, 2012 01:52 PM

Yeah .. why not !!! We have to meet and discuss potential flying fields .. there is a lot of resistance from the city..

#13 typicalaimster Jun 28, 2012 04:39 PM

I take it that Dave's Beach is not an option? Did they get in trouble from overflying the street ;-D

I know it's hot but what about the desert? Ocotilo Wells?
