Align APS System - Autopilot
There's rumor about an autopilot system over at the Align camp, and finally they put out a video on their facebook page demonstrating it capabilities. Apparently this is a plug in to the 3GX flybarless system.

ALIGN APS GYRO VIDEO (3 min 12 sec)

Wow talk about cheating lol but way cool for a cam platform!

Lol! :)

I think its awsome. I have been wanting an align 700 for about a year now. But the thought of a high $ repair bill keeps me from that. this would help put my mind at ease to a degree. Also think its very good for all the rookies coming into the hobby. I know many of people who have never returned due to the expense of a few crashes. No, this does not make it crash proof. But it sure softens the learning curve I would think.

This is going to be a big improvement for FPV CP heli pilots, too, with the return to home option. Most current RTHs only work with R/C planes, so people with CP FPV helis can now fly safer and have more "peace of mind" that their aircraft is not going to plummet out of the sky if they loose control, and it will be able to return itself to home safely!

I hope it works well, as it could put some needed competition into the heli/multi-rotor flight controller world.....

The price will certainly put pressure on that other company selling the samething for $1200...

any word on when it is coming out ?

So being inverted and loose orientation.. Flick the switch, it will flip/roll back and return home. Very Nice.

Loose video on FPV.. Flick switch and it will return home. Will it avoid trees when coming back home?

It should be out any day now.

I don't think it will be able to avoid trees. When it initiates a return home function, it climbs 10m from the home altitude before flying back. That should pretty much clean most trees in the area.

10mt!! We have trees that block the winds where I fly and they are well over 10mt in height... more like 15-20mt and still growing.

seems like very useful...

when i loss my orientation ...
auto-pilot on, than i am safe!
than i re-think and take back control again

Now all you have to do is have the presence of mind in a literal instant to flip a switch somewhere on your radio :D

What would be REALLY cool is if something like this could let you set a do not drop below deck altitude (say 3 meters) and if you do, it automatically goes into hover right side up mode until you tell it to let you take control again :)

I wonder if it already does that if you try to fly in the altitude hold mode. Yes that would save my butt!
