My crazy Micro Heli FPV idea. I need some advice!
 
I am using the FPVhobby.com 200mW 5.8GHz transmitter that draws 330mA @ 3.3V...

and a MC-495A camera that draws 75mA @ 3.3V to 6.0V.

Total theoretical draw is 405mA. This is a micro heli FPV setup (which may never fly from the added weight). Every gram counts here and i predict a 10 minute (at the very very most) flight time off the 180mAH main battery. I would like to match my video setup to the main battery's limited flight time, in order to keep the weight as low as possible.

1. Any recommendations on camera and Tx batteries and where to get them at the lowest price? Since I assume these batteries will be sub 100mAH, what sort of charger should I be using?

2. How can I effectively drop the 4.2V from a fully charged 1S battery to 3.3V to power the Tx and camera? Will LD1117 LDO do the trick? Or should i be using a diode?

It appears that the LD1117 requires an input voltage of at least 4.75v to output a regulated 3.3v. We all know a 1S battery won't achieve 4.75 volts, so it looks like i cannot use this chip. Are there other voltage regulators that can regulate to a 3.3v output and accept a 2.7v to 4.2v input?

I have done it with a micro heli, but your transmitter is to heavy and has to much output power. You better grab a set of these http://www.fpvhobby.com/143-sub-nano-combo-set.html and use a seperate lipo for it.

Why do you want a regulator device from 4.2V to 3.3V? Our 5.8gHz 200mw Tx module works with 3.3V - 4.2V directly. No need a step-down regulator for it.

Because I found the unit for 15 dollars new (shipped), vs. your cost of $39. So i am looking to make the modification myself.

also 1s 50mah zippy at hk for flights shorter than 5 min are fine. else 160mah hk nanos

the 5.8ghz rx is 2x cheaper at hk too.
the camera has a decent price at fpvhobby but it probably is much cheaper if you find a larger supplier.
i usually get all from fpvhobby cause its convenient execpt the rx, at hk
