Grand Esprit - very slow scratchbuild

Hi

I have started GE scratchbuild with some mods, but its summer and building is on hold now. Someone asked if I want to make a build log here. So, I start this thread and hope I find time to update this time to time. Also all information, pics and suggestions about GE are welcome here. There seems to be no Grand Esprit thread yet, which this beauty deserves.

Armin

Hope to post first pics soon, have to connect my phone to pc and this takes time as you all know:)

Tail on the table and making beefier spars. Idea taken from the Jim Brandon website which seems to be taken down for now. Airfoil is going to be E205 on root and E193 on tips.

Hi, Im putting up my wing section drawing, to make this thread going :)
Spar is two 3x12mm spruce up and down, 12mm endgrain balsa between them and 1,5mm ply on sides - 600mm on LE and 300 mm on TE, rest is covered with 1,5mm balsa. This should take some winch also, though I do not know how Im gonna launch this thing yet.

Your green-white color scheme is my favourite Ive seen in net so far. This plane was on sale some time ago? Are you the new happy owner? Im considering something similar maybe, but now this is too distant future :) Nice

yes!

I've never seen a wing construction like that (triangulated), other than on flat tail surfaces. Please, include some close ups showing the chord profile as best you can.

Will do, when I get to that point. This wing layout GE has, is one reason why I like it so much. Wing will be built around the spar, so first thing Im doing is spar, then put lower sheeting in place and start placing ribs. Ribs are going to be capped with 1,5mm balsa like the sheeting.

reproduced GE writing in vector, maybe useful in future to do some printigs on the plane or smth.

I've got a GE on my workbench now, have the elevator and stabs built, part of the fuse is built.
I was trying to come up with a better spar. Considering a 3014 airfoil.
So how did you beef up your spars?

ErcoupeED, look at the post nr. 7, I have my wing section drawing there and description in my text. This is how I did my spar. Spars for the tips is also 3x12mm spruce up and down but endgrain balsa between them is only first 150mm and sides are covered 1,5mm balsa sheet. So the very tip of the spar is hollow inside.
