Utah Flyers Alula thread

Since it seems there are a lot of us with Alula's, and I think it is one of the best rc planes, I thought it would be a good idea to keep together a collection of Info, pictures and discussion on the alula.

I will start it off by linking to our build images, but welcome any contributions!

We have great fun doing all up last down competitions where the loser hands over his aircraft to someone else...

I will update this original post with links or other important or useful things if anyone would like that.

Alula's cant fly in a gale though.

When Alex was on crutches still, he had parked his car pretty much on the edge at the RC site on pom south side. It was very strong. Like a gale, and he was flying from inside the car. When I joined him we were screaming up and down the ridge, landing was tricky! Lots of energy involved when touching down.

So "like a gale" but not an actual gale?

Sounds like it was fun, I really want to try my hand at some slope soaring.

Jon, not according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gale, but I had to lean into it to stand. Does that count?

The ruling on the field is..... Close enough!!!!! Count it as a gale

I knew I was going to have sore muscles after flying with Jake on Saturday and I was right. I did stop at the south side of POM on my way home to fly either the Alula or Weasel, but the wind was coming from the west and I wasn't sure how to handle it, so I left.

A West wind is not soo good. You can walk way over and look over I-15 to fly but I have done that and the air is really bumpy and variable. Might have something to do with blowing over freeway traffic and it cant smooth out in time as it comes up the hill.

I'm going to have to fly at POM with you guys sometime!
