STOL Super Cub

Hi Folks. I have a 1/4 scale Sig Cub.

It was crashed when I got it and I have repaired the wing and tail surfaces.

I loathe the yellow scheme and was looking for a different scheme when I found this on UTube. Way too cool.

Short Landing and Take-off Piper Cub (0 min 28 sec)

My major drama is finding suitable wheels and a braking system.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Humphrey,
Good luck finding suitable Inflatable wheels. The Tundra tires that are installed on the S'cubs in those video are most likely 31" tires (tundra tires typically range from 28" to 33", 31" being the most popular) on full scale.. So a 1/4 scale tundra tire (they are inflatable, and typically run 15psi or less) is 7 3/4" in diameter. I have been looking for a set of tundra tires for a 1/3 scale S'cub or Aviat husky and no-one has them in that size... I've tried looking for inflatable tube tires, but no-one offers them (atleast that i can find) in that small of size either.

Thanks for the reply.
I am glad that some one is at least reading.
So I am looking for tyres at least 8"diameter.
I was contemplating making some if I can't find any.

The large scale blokes must get them from somewhere.

Your best bet might be to try lawn mower or go-kart inner-tubes. You may have to fabricate your own hub, or scavenge a hub from another set of wheels.

Or, you might be able to use 4x4 rock-crawler wheels/tires from a big 1/6 scale RC truck. Fins some old used ones cheap on Ebay, then chuck them into a drill and take some coarse sandpaper to them to get rid of all the tread and make them into "slicks".

200mm balloon tire. Should work out as a 31" for a 1:4 scale Super Cub.

There are several other sizes available (140, 160 and 180mm) in the menu to the left. Click "Airtop"

Thanks for the tips guys.

I will look at Ride on mower inner tubes for starters and then work out some wheel hubs.

I had the 200mm on my 1/4 scale DP SuperCub. Cant recommend them enough. They fit right on the Dubo hub if your running 6" dubro inflateables. They are expensive but look awsome for someone who wants that Bush Plane look.
They are always outta stock but show up once in a while befor they are sold out again. These pics show a direct comparison to the 6" Dubro tires.
