5gm motor pusher

Hi, Recently I built a 30mm EDF with a 13 inch span. It works pretty good but I wanted something a little tamer and so I'm making another which will use a 5 gm out runner . It won't have as much power but I'm pretty sure I can cut out at least 20 gms from the 85 gm EDF.
Here are some pictures.

This is the link to the 30mm EDF where there are two flight videos.

Before I go solder up some servos for this thing, I thought I'd put up a couple of pictures. It is looking better with wheels. Here is a short clip of it's sister plane the EDF version.

Short Flight of the 30X-UAV-V1 and a test of Creative's Vado HD pocket camera. (1 min 41 sec)

Thanks Derk, and thanks to Mr Coanda's effect the fan gets plenty air even though it is barely visible from the front view.

nice job Roy! I built a similar ducted design before and it flew really nice.

Mayday.

Mayday, I'm surprised how similar the planes are. Yours flies nice! It looks a little bigger than mine. Mine has a 13-3/32 inch span. Haven't been to Guam in over thirty years. Pretty place.

thanks Roy, I really like your mini pusher design, your paint scheme is awesome. I will build the pusher one as soon as I'm done with school work....as for GUAM the island has become the #1 japannese tourists spot. Clean beaches and "ALOT OF NICE PLACE TO FLY OUR FOAMIES".

Mayday.

The 30X pusher is ready for test flight. taxi tested her in the dark and it seems like it has plenty power. I've included a couple pictures showing a size comparison. Hopefully in a few hours I'll get a chance to see if she flies. The 30X weighs 64.4 gm with the 240 mah pack which is just under twice the weight of the Park Zone Sukhoi but it has about 4 times the power as the Sukhoi so I don't think she'll have problems getting off the ground. Comparing it to the 30X-UAV EDF, she is 16 gm lighter but less than a third of the power. The pusher should be more maneuverable. Can't wait.

Thanks mayday, We were just out testing it and got some video. I also got some repairs to make but all in all the plane should fly pretty good once I get her trimmed and I learn how to fly it. The video shows two flights the second being very brief with the plane falling out of the sky right in front of me. That was a result of pilot error and getting the plane to low and slow for the conditions. Even if it had been calm I should have been up higher if I was going to fly that slow. On the attempted landing it looks like I caught the right vertical stab resulting in the plane tumbling and pulling off the nose wheel. I'm going to shorten the bottom portions of the vertical stabs. In the video I say I'm going to make a long final but the approach never had a stable straight final this was because I had to come in from the left because of the prevailing wind and I had to avoid the basket ball basket.
I'm going to add a steerable nose wheel which should make it more fun to fly.

sorry about the crash. It's an awesome little flier, I love the way it handles the turns. GREAT JOB ROY! keep up the good work. I will build one soon and thank you for the video.

happy flying.

mayday.

30X Pusher testing cont. (5 min 18 sec)

Another video. This time I think I know what went wrong.
I had placed the CG at the aft end of the red obrounds I printed on the wing. It turns out that the obrounds are about .27 inches to far aft and at the aft end it probably put me as much as .4 inches to a far aft. This is apparent in the video because just after takeoff the plane if unstable in pitch winding up with nose directly up and no longer having any pitch control. I've made a new nose and did a little cutting to push the battery further forward so that the CG is about at the 20% point of the mean chord which should be OK for a delta. It could even be moved further forward but I'll test it where it is now. Hope the rain doesn't interfere with testing tomorrow.
