Topic Review (Newest First)

ooDAMOoo So imitated a lawn dart and took a serious nose dive and looking to get a replacement fuselage.

What's the best method of removing the brick, servos, wings and tail fin and the EDF unit? Looks like there's also some clear tape in strips holding bits together that looks like cellotape but thinner in width.

I guess I'm looking for a guide how to safely disassemble the whole bird lol!

Any help would be appreciated!

I have been looking but nothing pops up. Can only seem to find the brick in Germany. Will cost £80 plus £30 shipping! ha

ooDAMOoo Actually, forgot to mention I've the V2 and wouldn't know the visual power differences between the two versions of the jet.

Your V1 looks like it flies exactly the same as the V2

I tried 3s in my UMX MiG & it didn't like it. Hit LVC as soon as I went to WOT. Didn't hurt anything, though. Don't think I've ever heard of anyone frying the brick on 3s. Usually, the ESC just goes into OCP & shuts down until you reduce the throttle.

I highly recommend contacting Roger of BabbleBatt fame. He makes the lowest-sag, highest cycle-life, highest power-to-weight UMX packs you can buy anywhere. The two of us started making our own UMX packs back when the UMX planes first came out, because all of the factory-made UMX-size packs sucked. Over a decade later & Roger's BabbelBatts are still the best UMX packs you can buy. Here's his page: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...31-BabbelBatts

I highly recommend his TP 325 70C packs for the MiG. Here are a couple clips of my V1 MiG flying on one of his TP 325s:

Just watched your vids and looks like you defo get more flight time but can't seem to see the power improvements to the standard E-Flite 280mah batteries. That page says they've discontinued international orders anyhow .

Do you know of anyone whos' done a proper 3s conversion? i.e, swapped the brick/ESC and motor out?

This also may have been covered somewhere already within this thread but is there anyway to get a little more power from these little birds? Could do with a little more vertical!

tshiah Mine sadly ended way up high in a large tree. It's gone...

4stripes I have heard of upping the cell count but I think it is too risky.
Simply using a fresh, larger capacity pack will produce noticeable improvement in power.
I use 300mah HK nanotech packs... old now but still performing well.

Take the landing gear off for best vertical.

4stripes Thanks, you may also notice the cooling holes put through the windshield and aft turtle deck.
I hope to never burn out the electronics.

So easy to dork this model and the nose is fragile in stock form.

Ordered some park flyer plastics but decided against the pilot but I think it looks awesome with him in there! Nice work!

Actually a good idea, versus adding the protector weight at all. I used to add a few thin coats of 5min epoxy when I was foam building, to add a bit of durability. The nose protector starts to venture into build to crash territory, which I did at one time and have long since gotten away from. As you were saying, gotta keep these models as light as possible.

4stripes I used some brush on craft paint from Michaels for the nose. The epoxy under the wing tips does work well for me and is lighter. Every bit of weight loss helps IMO.
Have fun!

Thanks for your insight mate! Did you add any paint to your nose protector?

Maidened mine today and the first flight was successful albeit some heavy winds. Managed to land on the tarmac too! Second and especially third landing wasn't so great and broke a little of wingtip off and bent the nose a little lol!

Would you think that adding the wingtip protectors would add too much weight and mess with the flying characteristics? Feel like they should really be put from today's shenanigans ha!
