Patzpaint Looks like a Turnigy 4250, 600kv, same as I am using on my 1/6 Rake Nieuport 17 build. I am using an equivalent .32, but the size and weight and performance is the same. Pete recommends a 14x 8 for starters on 3S battery.

JIMA Pat,

Just purchased the plans for this beast from Peter. Read through your great thread but could not find what kv your motor was or what size prop you were using. Do you remember?

Thanks
Jim

portablevcb Will do. Thanks for finding the mistake.

Pat Lynch Charlie - I've had a tear in the top wing since my first take-off attempt! I must fix it. Other than that, after 7 flights - not even a scratch

BTW - could you edit the weight a little of this beastie on your web-site? The stated AUW might scare people off! She is a little under 5 lb with 4400 2s fitted.

Cheers

Pat

Pat,

We used to be confined to flying at a soccer field with no good runway. Most of my planes were biplanes or high wing.

I was known as the person who did perfect 3 point landings, wingtip, wingtip and rudder. During the times when the grass was mowed short I'd sometimes (rarely) get a landing where the plane stayed on it's wheels. The guys would cheer and clap for me.

Eventually I got good enough to take off and land in the small parking lot. I lost a couple of plans that did not get over the obstacle at the end of the runway (chain link fence).

Glad those days are over too. It was always a pain to have to fix tears in the covering on the top wing.

gupi Congratulations to landing without nose-over! Sounds like with the optimal balance she'll be a really great flyer.

Pat Lynch Another good day with the Albatros. The double 2200 3s LIPOS were changed to a pair of 1600 batteries to lessen the nose weight and she isa few ounces lighter with the balance back a little - still performs superbly AND I landed it without a nose-over - much to the amazement of the gallery!

Next I'll try a single 2200 up front - flight time may be shorter but the less conservative CG makes taxiing and landing a little better!

Pat Lynch Here are a few pictures from last Sunday's flying session. The DXI did 3 flights on the same battery - about 15-20 minutes worth and consumed a tad over 2000 mA from the two parallel 2200 3s LIPOs.

I cant get over how absolutely straight this machine taxis and lifts off! '...on rails...' is an overused description but the DXI is rock steady with no sign of a swing left or right and needs just a liitle elevator to get it to lift off - I think it is a little nose heavy.

Aileron and rudder turns are steady and no longitudinal twitchiness (wobbles ) at all - something I was scared of being a fairly short-coupled design. Anyway she flys beautifully with only my landings needing some work - I haven't avoided a nose-over yet Thanks to Jim Carter for the early morning pictures

I must rebuild the spinner.......

2.4 GHz rules........

Thanks Pete - I dont know why I was so anxious - just the concerns about short-nosed models etc I guess, but she sure flies superbly once off the deck. Take-off and landing still need some work. You may have noticed the absence of a spinner. It cracked and flew in all directions after a taxiing nose-over so another one is being produced.......

I noticed the elevator cables were a bit slack after returning from another brief flying session so removed the hatch to tighten the servo ends up (a cotter pin had slipped in a not-very-tight EZ connector) and saw the rx and the still coiled-up antenna leads just flopping around near the servos
I'd forgotten to check the servos and rx after building the hatch!

Not a sign of any glitches etc - and the range check was OK. Whew!

The DXI, the almost finished MS AI and the Potez are all going to district scale rally tomorrow. Whether I fly any of them depends on the wind which is forcast at 25 k - we'll see.

PETERRAKE Pat,
Definitely still around mate, and breathing a huge sigh of relief. Your nervousness over this one was making me nervous too - moreso than usual when a maiden is in the offing.

Congratulations mate, it sounds as if this one is much easier to fly than anticipated. Makes me start to wonder how viable an SS DIII or DIV might prove.

There you go, things must be improving, I'm starting to think about aeroplanes again.
