Here is a picture of my new Alfa Sabre. It's setup with a 4S 1800 FP pack that I made flat so that it would fit under the canopy without any mods. I'm using a Jetscream motor with a Alfa 5 blade fan. HS 55's provide the steering and a Spektrum 6100e provides the link.

I weathered this plane using semi hard pastels crushed into a powder. Clear coat was applied after to protect the decals and the weathering effects.

I do have the drop tanks with wheels installed to fly off asphalt. Works well.

Here are some pictures I took at SEFF 2008.

I got to meet Quique, Keith Sparks, Andrew Jesky, Scott Stoops, and John Redman. I even ran into NumbSkull and edge5foamy of RC Groups. Nice to meet you guys.

As always QQ was a very nice guy and I talked to him quite a bit about the Turbine Toucan. Looks like it may be out by mid-summer. I was very impressed with Scott Stoops and Andrew Jesky. Both of them flew very well in the high winds we had this year. Andrew liked to get down and dirty with the Slick. I'm talking a few inches off the ground. Awesome skills! Scott hung right in their with him with the big Extra.

Horizon put on a great noon time show. All their stuff flew extremely well in the winds.

All in all I had a great time. I was camped by Keith Sparks and he was a very friendly guy. I even bought his book and a canopy for my Funjet.

I also urge you guys to check out Grayson Hobbies wheel chocks. You can see them on my Beaver in one of the pics. Work extremely well.

I have recently added a Seagull EP Extra 300 and Great Planes Spitfire to my fleet. The Extra is a really fun everyday aerobatics plane. The Spitfire is a rocket. Fastest plane I have. I will try and get some Eagletree airspeed information on it tomorrow. Should be over 100mph.

Here are some pics I took today at the Great Georgia Airshow Oct. 13, 2007. The C17 and Stealth Bomber where awesome. Even up close the Stealth Bomber looked like a big black flying triangle. I could hardly make out any detail at all, except maybe a small number of panel lines. Never seen anything like it before. All the aerobatic teams where really good and I'm glad I stayed and watched the Aeroshell team. They put on a great precision aerobatics show.

4 Attachment(s) HillTop Flyers Annual Fun Fly
Yippee! / Posted by Buzz Bomb / May 27, 2007 @ 02:11 PM / 4,204 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
We had our annual fun fly on Saturday, May 26th. I had a great time as usual. I took my new Spad Sickle which I had finished the day before and had only one flight on her. I also took my Aero Ace, Spad Stick (40 size), Autogyro from PT gyro, and my Blue Funder from plans off RC Groups.

A pretty funny thing happened. I was flying my Aero Ace around and got it up about 100ft. Well....even with power off it wouldn't come down. It got caught in a thermal and just kept going higher and higher until it disappeared. Everyone was cracking up and one guy even watched it with binoculars until it was gone.

I also bought a V Diamond for $70 RTF. All it needs is a battery. What a great deal. It's in perfect shape and came with a Axi motor. Another club member gave me a GWS P51. We also had a raffle and I won the grand prize. A Phoenix Models Extra 300S (40 size). Needless to say I had a great day. :D

Thread locked Spad Cat
Discussion / Posted by Buzz Bomb / Nov 17, 2006 @ 01:32 AM / 4,840 Views / 0 Comments
After a couple of days of thinking about how to build the "SPAD CAT", I believe I finally have it worked out. I have two different options for building it. Which I will not bother you with until I have started on it.

Some things I need to do before getting started on the build. Is weigh all the planned components. I would like to have the wing loading fall somewhere between sport and trainer. Once I have the weight approximation in hand I can figure the wing dimensions. Did I mention I have a family and two kids, one 4 months old. So this may take longer than I would like. But it will definently get done.

I have decided not to use rudders on this plane. I really don't want the hassle of trying to do it on 4 mil coroplast. Besides I don't need them to fly it. This is going to be purely a sport plane and I want to keep it simple stupid. The design of the rudders on this plane presented the most challenge to me. Yes it will look exactly like the picture in my previous post. I just won't have functional rudders.

For people that like SPADS or have dealt with SPADS in the past, this plane will basically be a HOR. Just a highly modified HOR pusher. I am definently planning on having a full fuse, no profile here. But I want to keep it as slick as I can for speed.

After much thought I have decided to try and build a SPAD Bobcat. Something like the picture below. What prompted me to do this was the fact that I received a free .46 glo engine from a club member. I also have been wanting to delve deeper into airplane design and aerodynamics. And...I also wanted to create something original, just to see if I can.

I have a lot to do before I get started. Mainly I need to figure out how I am going to build the wing and integrate the rudder into it. I want this plane to be light, but I also want it to be strong. I will be using aluminum U channel for the internal structure of the fuse. I am thinking of using carbon fiber for the wing spar.

I think it will be difficult to make the nose cone from coroplast. But I have some ideas.

Feel free to offer input into this design. I have seen a lot of ingenious designs over the last few years. None of which I thought up. :)

I am estimating this will take over a month to do. Just because I'm slow and like to get things just right.

I finished my SPAD BUHOR 25 (www.spadtothebone.com). Here is a short video of it in action. I also made a removable bomb bay for it from 4 mil coroplast. So I can drop easter egg bombs filled with baby powder and/or plastic parachute men. I can't say enough about the BUHOR. It's a very nice flying plane.

Next up on the chopping block is the Bluecor Fan Trainer found here .

Battle Axe Elevator Clevis Failure
Discussion / Posted by Buzz Bomb / Sep 20, 2006 @ 12:12 AM / 3,943 Views / 0 Comments / Reply
ARGGGG!

Was flying my Battle Axe this morning and the "nylon" clevis to my elevator pulled away from my 2-56 threaded rod. Lawn dart from about 60 feet up at full throttle!

Damage report:

Punctured fuel tank
Broken wing saddle
Electron 6 antenna broken off
Prop broken
Throttle servo mounting plate bent
Glow plug damaged
Dirt covered engine

I will never use nylon clevises on anything again. I went to my LHS and bought Sullivan metal clevises and I plan to solder them on. Should have my Battle Axe back up in a couple of days. All in all it wasn't too bad. Any other plane and it would have been scrap. The Battle Axe can take a beating for sure.

Had a great time at my clubs Fall Fly In yesterday. A lot of people showed up. Including an photographer from the AMA, a rep from Hodges Hobbies, a professional pattern flyer, and several companies. I would like to thank Hobby South(www.hobbysouth.com ) for supplying prizes for out raffle. Unfortunately I didn't win anything.

Randy Roman was also in attendance. He owns www.M-A-E.com. I was really impressed with his depron planes. Everyone of them performed great even in some windy conditions.

I got to fly my Battle Axe in a couple of demo combat events. It flew like a champ.

My club also had food and free flying via buddy box for new pilots.

Had a great time!

I also picked up this nice little Albatros kit from a fellow club member at our swap meet. Pic below.
