Ruby Saved my wing
I almost lost my X-5 wing because of flying to low and not thinking about the angle of the antenna.
I have been flying with the Ruby flight system, getting it dialed in for my X-5 wing.
after flying around I decided to fly up the lake side. Shortly after heading west I lost video. I was flying in "altitude hold" mode at 500' so I knew the wing would keep flying with out me. So, I check the antennas and the rest of the ground station. By this time I had reached my 3281ft distance limit, and the wing started the RTH. Now I was getting a little video, but not good enough to fly with... just enough that I could see it was still flying. At this point I was not sure it was doing the RTH... a little video is worse then no video. I was not trusting the Ruby.
I flipped the "loiter" switch and started looking and listening for the wing... 3 min later I flipped the RTH switch and just waited.
Sure enough I heard it, then when it cleared the trees I saw it. I told Ruby to do an auto land and all was good!
The issue was the large trees next to my base station. I was flying at 500' and as soon as I started west the trees blocked the wing. I normally fly at 1500 or higher. And I never have gone west. Thanks to the Ruby I got to "live and learn".
