Went to the track to beat the cold winter weather and snow. The truck is durable and it took some hard hits during the couple of quick runs i had time for. A few other guys showed up with the rtr versions to so soon there should be a class at the local track filled with the new slash 4x4s.
Got it yesterday, heres a couple pics. Should have some video by the weekend.. the original slash rocked but this one is gonna rock even more.
Looking forward to a slash 4x4 class soon. Cant beat these trucks for fun,low cost racing and there fun to watch go around a track to. Id really like to see a larger slash one day with 1/8 scale electric power and based off current truggy class dimensions with a larger body.. A super slash. Until then im just waiting for the slash 4x4 platinum edition to make it to the hobby shops.
Did some grillin and decided to get a quick flight in while the food was cooking. Numb thumbs but got to do some kind of flying until spring gets here. Really thinking about a mini heli for the yard, been looking at the e-flite bnf cx3 and it should be able to haul a 1oz cam around to for some ap and video, ive had a light kit for probally over a year that would really jazz it up to from a big heli scale fuselage that was wrecked that someone gave me, just need to shorten the wires for the lights. I could always cut some foam and make another hover craft type deal.. been wanting to do that for a while with some of the plane gear i have sitting around collecting dust and the lights would jazz that up to.
Havent flown for a while and finally got out to do some flying and get some onboard video. Plenty of snow on everything and it was a bit chilly out but had fun flying around the trees.
With winter here in the midwest unless your part polar bear there isnt to much flying going on. Grillin slows down quite a bit as well but i'll get some flying in and some grillin during the winter. Theres some projects to get finished, need to chop some wood to keep a nice warm fire going while in the yard with the grill in freezing temps, foam to be cut for planes as well. The gas grill needs some work, with the poor flying weather it opens up a lot of time for doing other things like more cooking. Something ive been working on lately is a really good pizza for under $4.00.. a deep dish pizza on top of that no less! Just about everybody likes pizza.. originally pizza was a crust with leftovers thrown on top for toppings, its much more modernized now with the stables being crust, cheese and sauce. Theirs all kinds of twists, styles and ingredients not to mention the way its cooked now. As much as i like the napoli style of pizza.. deep dish pizza rocks to. Plenty of other favorites to cook and new styles and recipes as well. Already getting hungry for some bbq... have to pick up plenty of charcoal to keep the grill going this winter.
I was in the area and stopped by to check out the races. The final mains were running and i snapped some quick pics in the pits and got some video of the sportman truggy a main(this main was running when i got there) and buggy a main was after that,i'll post the videos later.
Start of buggy A-Main
Ive thought about this for some time, today while checking out storm chasers on the discovery channel on youtube it looks like someones finally trying it. I enjoy the shows but thought the deploying of the probes was just to random. Im sure many will see the cons of using an rc plane to get footage as well as the risks but the chances of success will be much higher if they can enter the tornado rather than hope it goes in the right path and data and video are logged on a ground probe. Looking forward to seeing more on this one.
Heres some of the footage i found so far on this project.
First run with the truck. Got the mamba toned way down in the video.. lots more power available but toned it down big time when it was in the losi buggy.
Foam is fun, less expensive, easier to scratch build with than balsa, can fly foamies just about anywhere. For a long time i thought of foamies as a crutch and concentrated on flying balsa almost exclusively. The goal was to eventually buy a 50cc size plane.. thats where balsa really starts to fly like foamies when it comes to the floaty parts of flying, but then your making a big commitment for just one big plane and also the transportation thing and how often will you actually get to fly it.. just stepping up to 55'' size electrics can get a bit pricey these days. For now im sticking to the foamies and i'll probally come up with more scratchbuilt stuff this winter to fly around with until spring.
The techonehobby piaget.. i probally fly the piaget more than anything else lately
The $8.00 pink sheet of foam i flew today for the first time in months...Continue Reading
Really windy on the maiden flight but the winds took a break on sunday and i was able to get a couple more flights in. Nice to fly it with out the 20+mph gusts.
Weather has been rain and really windy all week. Got this plane monday, finally the weekend and time to get the maiden flight in... windy as usual. Got one flight in,13 oz plane and wind gusting over 20mph at times made it difficult to really feel it out but it flew nice and should be a lot more fun on a calmer day.
Video of the new traxxas slash 4x4 during the traxxas demo at the show.
Just some video from thursday night practice.. It was fun clearing the triple with a Traxxas slash
Went and checked out some rc car bashing in berwyn(i havent been to berwyn in about 10 years),some of the guys from bigsquidrc.com were at a forest preserve with ramps busting out jumps and had a slash demolition derby session
. A first for me was seeing a hawk go after a rc car.. had them go after my planes before but never seen one go after a rc car
. Ive bumped into these dudes here and there at local shops and events,on the bigsquidrc site the slogan is ''For Bashers By Bashers'' and they definitely bash with there rc cars
There were hpi bajas and a 5t out at the track this weekend. There huge cars compared to 8th scale buggies.. weigh around 30lbs
. Was cool to see these huge cars run in person for the first time
Winters coming and flyings gonna slow down quite a bit. Went to the track to get a little practice and see how the cars handle after bashing around on the street(they need work),only got one race with the slash last winter before some changes put racing on hold for most of the year. Im giving the hellfire to a bud so less cars to maintain and more set up can go into the slash and eight. Id like to become competitive again with the cars but its fun just racing and starting the learning process again.
Offroad buggies are fun to zip around with.. but there more fun to fly through the air. Took the traxxas slash and losi eight to the woods to do some jumps.
The trees helped block the wind.
