I started cutting out planes from plans. This one looked pretty cool so i got a set of plans from the pdf and cut one out and have tried a few set ups on it so far. The current set up at 6.4oz is a good all around set up but ive flown it at 5.8oz as well with less power and a lot more floaty in the air. The design isnt mine, but there might be plans available online for it. After cutting a handful of planes from plans im looking forward to trying more planes out. Its really not that difficult or time consuming.. takes about an hour taking my time to cut one out.. well a bit faster than that but the first one took just under a hour. Im told this one might be available in a larger size as well.. around 38''. It was pretty cool to see a full size epp plane from pdf plans come out of the printer at kinkos
Lots more pics in the comment section, uploaded them in four posts, couple hundred pics from the show....Continue Reading
Ordered some new servos and packs from rcplanebuilder to try out,the extra has been a test bed for a lot of things since ive been thinning the heard around here to make room for some new stuff.
Took it out today to try a 16 tooth pinion. The conversion comes with a 14t pinion and it has tons of torque with the 14t and the 16t seems to work well with good power and speed without lifting the front end so easily when driving on pavement.
Finally got to maiden the new scratch build grx epp park jet. Had been raining all day but late afternoon it wasnt so bad, decided i wouldnt chance driving to a field and sitting if the rain started back up and just flew it in the yard since this one is for slow tight area flying anyway.. what better place for a maiden for a plane like that than the yard.. trial by fire and it passed
Just a quick flight at the local shop to show someone how it turned out. Have another style big 3d foamie i should be flying soon.
I dont fly very often usually but had time to get in quite a bit of flying this week as well as cutting out planes and did some night flying which i really enjoy but rarely do much these days. Its always nice to get a couple flights in at night when there usually isnt much wind to constantly wrestle with while you fly and its very peaceful and relaxing. Just a couple quick flights to try some set up stuff out and should be even more fun when i have something in the 5oz or slightly under auw range done to try some other things.
Gonna pick up more owens insulation soon, might even skip my epp order.. bigger flys better.
So ive had some time and material again and felt like cutting out a few planes. Ive worked with depron, epp and ofcourse the most bang for your buck for larger foamies.. owens insulation. Made some prop jets,3d planes. Cut out a ufo for night flying recently and should have it flying or lawn darting sometime next week when i get the carbon to finish it. Been looking at newer technology's for foam building and some old ones and will probably get some more owens soon. Trying not to get sidetracked and still have bigger parkjet stuff to do but i have some baselines on some existing things i can use to try out some other things for 3d planes in larger sizes.
Got there early and made the rounds quick. Kind of kicking myself for not bringing some cars and planes for the BigSquidRc Bash-A-Palooza....Continue Reading
Trying out a more powerful set up in the yak 55. Next time i fly it i'll be using the hobbyking hk 2403(2100kv) outrunner. AUW with the T-2006 outrunner is 6.3oz so the wingloading didnt change to much from the first set up i flew but it has a ton more power on the t-2006. I also tryed a different landing gear set up i made using foam wheels,The plastic wheels are back on for now with the wheel pants.. just like the look better on 3d planes with landing gear and wheel pants.. even if its just an epp foamie.
I might make this a 48'' wingspan version with owens or bluecore. About the only thing i might change is adjust for differential in the ailerons(using the standard arm that came with the servo for now).
Got a quick flight in.. was nice even with the bugs in the yard. Swapped gear for use in another plane and wanted to get a quick flight in with the gear i have in the extra now. The previous set was 6.1oz auw, with the current power set up in it now its 6.4oz but has more power and a little heavier with more power is fun to.. especially for more aggressive flying. Not sure if i would of recovered with the old power set up when i hit the tree
Flew a pack in the yard today. I need to trim that tree branch thats always in the way
Used what i had for a power set up.. not the ideal set up for a park jet but it works well enough.
Trying the delta pusher jet thing again. Picked up a stryker q when they came out,it can do some basic 3d stuff and has good speed but ive always had an interest in making a real 3d jet good for slow speed flying in tight areas that doesnt have to have ballistic speeds. Since i started making scratchbuilt foamies a lot of the stuff i had in mind for a 3d jet has come to fruition by manufacturers and other scratch builders and over the past few years the edf jets really have raised the bar with thrust vectoring nozzles and gyros etc truly giving edf's 3d flight ability but the edf downfall is its nowhere near as efficient at making power and thrust like pusher prop set ups. An edf fan is a lot easier to conceal than a pusher prop to keep a jet looking scale but im more concerned with maneuverability than scale looks. Have some power set up stuff to try some things out with pusher jets and cut out something quick, eventually when i get more owens i'll work on a nicer looking much larger plane than this one.. Bigger flys better and 48'' wing span with 60'' or so length is about the size i want to make future pusher jets that can 3D well on the cheap. Some of the ones currently out are just to over-engineered and expensive, they look really nice and look to perform well but ive been on the fence about getting one and i cant justify $400.00 for one myself.. especially with questionable gear being used and very mixed feedback from people flying them on overall quality.
Wasnt sure if id like flying one of these but wanted to try one, never really flew these types of planes. The more ive flown it the more i like it. Has good speed, can fly in wind well, can even do some 3d stuff. Works well for a cam plane to(no pesky prop on the nose to distort video view).

Surprisingly the baja has been holding up to quite a bit of abuse. Its not as quick and nimble as a 4wd truggy and you cant recover in the air from a botched jump nearly as well so its been taking some knocks. Having the sc body on it just like the 1/10 scale sc trucks it can flip the truck in the air if the nose is up to high and it gets to much air under the body.
Unreal how much more power it has than the original 26cc motor now with the brushless set up.
I knew doing the conversion would give it quite a bit more power but this is just silly
. This was the first run.. will be dialing it down a bit, motor timing is still stock, while i was at the shop i got to check out a little animus rtr 18sc to.
