Finished it up earlier today,heres the Final specs:

48'' long (trimmed down the nose a bit)
55'' wingspan
reaper gr-35 motor
ab 60 esc
4s 2200 20 zippy flightmax
11x8 for now.. would like a 10x size prop
3hs 65mg's for aileron and elevator.. might add rudder if it flys well and i get some stuff to do it
Auw 37 oz
550 watts.. 200+ watts per lb even with an 11 inch prop .

Cut this out of owens pink half inch foam yesterday. Went pretty well for my first pusher style jet (so far) took a couple hours from design to whats in the pics.

Specs so far for the airframe.. 52'' long with 55'' wingspan and around 14 oz. I'll get better pics soon when i try some cg glide tests... i used a pattern style wing so it shouldnt be to difficult to ballpark the cg.. next ones i do will be a different style wing and fuselage but i wanted to start simple.. never flew a pusher plane before and this style is more of a trainer .


Update: Added to the nose,did this while i was on the phone today (some people call at the weirdest times ),got the reaper gr 35 in it with an 11x7. Maybe later today i'll install servos. Should have it ready for a maiden next weekend or maybe today if it doesnt stop raining.

Currently this is my biggest rc investment . Flys really well.. so much better than the 450 size(bigger flys better). Was pretty windy out but ive only flown it once this year and wated to fly it with the new hitec titanium gear servos i got for it(servos are much better than the ds821s)and i dont have to worry about doing flips and rolls etc now so i took it up high to get a feel for it with the new servos,cant wait for a calm day to bring it a little lower .

With the weather warming up its time to start flying regularly again.... once a month or less during the winter is rough and i need all the practice i can get. Didnt do much flying over the winter and didnt do any foam designs either . Time to start catching up again,tried out a couple things with the slick a few days ago. Need to order more packs.. two packs on the weekend just isnt enough flying and i have some foam designs i wanna do in 48'' or larger sizes,for years been wanting to do a 3d pusher jet so i might do one of those and a 3d plane and maybe a pattern plane.. bluecores cheap,done with depron(to expensive). Heres some video of the slick with a light power setup and a pull pull elevator.

It was nice to fly today,put 2 packs through the slick and fired up the chainsaw and cut some wood and got the grill going for some steaks when i got home . Did a little spring cleaning outside to.. its nice when temps are close to 60 degrees but flying the slick was the highlight to this weekend.. ive grilled in single digit temps throughout the winter but flying this winter has been slim to none. Hooray for spring .

Spring is getting close.. 40 degrees today . Flew a couple packs in my slick and when i got home i got the grill going and decided to fly the piaget in the yard while the grill was warming up.

Been 2 months since ive flown.. this freezin winter stuff isnt fun. Got a little epp plane this weekend and figured i could brave the frigid temps for a maiden.. 14 degrees gets your hands cold fast. This was my first flight for 2009.. cant wait for spring to get here(thumbs are rusty). Need to adjust expo but the plane flew fine despite the cold crappy weather.

Well i finally had my first race... talk about rusty thumbs. Its fun to run the rc cars,with the current weather out here my flyings in hibernation mode. This is a fun inexpensive class to run,the trucks are rtr for $200.00 and its a spec class so there isnt expensive motors and batterys to keep up with and the trucks a fairly equal for everyones pockets .

Heres my first main,it gets a little bumpy at the start but the slash class starts landrush style... ''rubbings racing they say'' .

Took a trip to the track this weekend,thinking about getting back into racing again over the winter. Theres plenty of open area around the track so i'll probally do some flying when the weather agrees and some ap to. Leisure hours raceway is a world class track and this was my third time out there to watch,ive been there prior for an outdoor onroad event and the rc pro series offroad event last year. Traxxas came out with a neat little stadium truck called the ''slash'' this year and they have a spec class for them at the track(inexpensive racing class with evenly matched vehicles). The slash trucks are very popular and tracks across the country are racing them.. its an inexpensive truck to race and a great way for beginners to get involved in rc racing without breaking the bank and still have a lot of fun. One of the highlights of this trip was seeing so many 8th scale electric buggys and truggys.. just like rc aircraft the 8th cars are starting to go brushless and lipos for racing but its still in its infancy among the masses in 8th scale but there was a nice turnout with two heats of electric 8th scale buggy.

Im sure many have read about the use of lipos in transmitters as well as the pros and cons. I know i have but wanted to get away from the standard rechargable packs that come with radios.. capacity is low and they lose a lot of voltage sitting. Since i have four 3s 2200 packs that dont get used now with my current set ups i decided to see if one would fit in the dx-7.. it doesnt and requires some battery compartment area to be removed along with part of the connection plug board for the pack in the radio(or you could hard wire the connector without the board),so i began to remove some area.. why not just buy a specialty tx lipo pack you say? Because i already have good 3s packs and i can pigtail a connector to fit plus i still have a balance plug so for me it was an easy decision. Im not suggesting anyone do this.. just sharing something ive done,for one im sure it voids any warrantys,two if your not comfortable changing the built in voltage regulator etc on the radio dont attempt it. Now i can fly for several weekends without charging the transmitter battery and even when i do need to charge it i can on a standard lipo charger quickly or even out in the field if i choose to do so. I may try a tp1320 as well.. the capacity isnt so much the problem for my flying,the nimh pack that comes with the dx-7 is 1500 but they lose so much voltage sitting and start out with less voltage than a lipo to begin with,so if you have a similar capacity lipo that will fit and you pigtail a battery connector on for the use with a radio pack connector you should be fine and not have to do any cutting to the battery compartment.

UPDATE: Horizon states 12 volts is the max a lipo should be charged to for for dx-7 radio use or it can damage transistors in the radio,thanks to Socomon for bringing this to my attention.

Got a couple flights in with the slick. The weekend was rough here but the slick made me forget all about the crappy flight conditions .

Ive flown foamys at night but flying in the middle of winter with a balsa plane in a snow storm with lots of wind and cold was a bit much for a night flight.. it was fun but i'll wait for calmer weather for winter night flying this year .
