Really like this one so far, good size and power for the back yard.
Snowed earlier in the week but it cleared up and I got a chance to fly it a bit more today. Just relaxed flying in the yard to to dial in the gains a little.
Built this one with pvc, needs a little dialing in but flew really nice as is.
Video of the BigSquidRc
car demos at the show from my tricopter.
First flight after flying it in the yard. Would fly quite a bit nicer with flashed esc's and 1.6fw on the kk 2 but flys decent considering the set up. Gonna retire this frame and work on the pvc quad i started on.
Checked out I-Hobby over the weekend and even got to fly a little bit.
Getting the stick scaling dialed in a bit.
Put this one together a few days ago with extra gear that was laying around. Aluminum is pretty strong and worst case scenario an arm will probably bend in a really hard crash rather than crack like plastic, carbon,or wood. Should be easy enough to bend back at the field and continue flying and be flattened out perfect once at home with a hammer and a 2x4. Weight isn't to bad with flat aluminum and no milling, with a 3s 1300 its 25oz rtf and 28oz with a 3s 2200 but could be considerably lighter with a different power set up....the frame is 195g. Flys well so far but i haven't had it out in an open area to dial it in for acro yet.
I mostly fly when I have time but it was fun to run the cars over the weekend for a change at the local hobby town. Here are some pics and videos if you couldn't attend or never seen what goes on at rc car events with bashers.
Put another flight on the v-tail to try out some changes. After flying flashed esc's in the tricopters I know how much they can improve overall flight performance in a multirotor so the afro 30amp esc's will be going on the v-tail soon. Ive got a handful of flights on the v-tails and haven't spent much time on this one but have decided v-tail quads are pretty cool and fly more to my liking than x-style quads and are somewhere between a x-style quad and a tricopter in flight characteristics... Not quite the best of both worlds but a nice blend without compromising either design to much in one package.
Just a quick flight to check some changes to kk 2.0 board and the airframe.
Trying out v-tail quads more,it still needs tuning but i like it better than x style quads. Still prefer tricopters overall for fun flying and acro.
Tried 4s to see how the afro esc's would hold up,90 degrees out and they were warm after the flight but not hot or anything. So far no issues with the BEC powering the savox digital mg or a hs 65mg but time will tell. I'll probably order more for the v-tail quads im messing with.
Last flight for this one,Converted it to a v-tail quad for acro....Continue Reading
Nice to finally fly with flashed esc's. The tricopter felt smoother, more precise and more locked in overall without changing anything else. Upped the gains on the kk 2.0 board when i got home and will fly it over the weekend when i have time again but installed another set on one of my other tricopters as well and will be ordering more.
Should have better performance overall since esc's also act sort of like servos and handle pitch and roll etc on multicopters. Should fly even better and feel more locked in once I install the AFRO's. Cell count, motors, props etc will all be the same as in this video so the next flight with the new esc's and nothing else changed should be a good indicator of before and after performance using flashed esc's. Looking forward to flying the afros this week.
Built another tricopter and have something else in build as well. Once i get the esc's flashed these things should really be responsive and quick.
I'll be building more tricopters when i can but this one is strictly for video duty now,no acro with this one anymore
. Really need to get some fpv goggles.. been putting that off for quite a while but i finally picked up a go pro and it was well worth the price.
Video quality is so much better with the new cam. Now that i have a pretty decent cam for the multicopter stuff im thinking more about camera platform set ups. Still needs a little tweaking as well as my flying but i was just trying different things(no acro though).
First time ever seeing anyone else flying a multicopter locally. My quad and tricopter were getting knocked around a bit.. even this big octo (14x7 props) was feelin the breeze to. Interesting to see something high end for filming at the field.
Got more kk boards and will get the rest of these and some other multicopters flying. Ordered a fpv style quad frame and flew it over the weekend and got the tricopter back in the air with some changes. The quad will get some better props to help with video quality but it has a vibration isolation mount built into the frame as well.
Bought this frame a few months back after efest. After flying tricopters and doing some acro it got cannibalized for gear to build more tricopters. Recently I set it back up and bought new dji arms for it. Soon it will be gutted for a new fpv quad frame.. more room for gear and better orientation on the fpv style frames. Should have the new quad set up in a week or two.. the tricopters rock but i'll keep atleast one quad for video stuff.
Just a flight to check the board settings.. still needs a little tweaking to the gains but flew pretty well considering i dont have a avr programmer to upgrade to the newest firmware(still on 1.2).
