Well been an iffy 2010, but got plenty of building done. 2011 has got off to a slow start for me. I'm currently recovering from a knee replacement which had been nagging for years so hopefully things will improve. It has given more scope for building, so since the last blog I've built a edf F6 lightning for 70mm fan, a micro edf meteor with 2x 40mm fans, a Salamander style edf (55mm) all from GAD foam kits and finally a scratch build TSR2 for two 40mm fan units. All flew well. On the table is a PZL-130 Orlik polish turboprop trainer, again a kit from GAD. Currently drawing up a 60" Vampire T11 and a 80" Fairey Battle both balsa builds for electric power.

Hi,
Since the last post I went to the RCM&E 50th fly in and had a great time there. A lot of interest was shown in the F4,Klingberg wing, Easy Cub, Dragonfly and Vampire T11.All five were flown during the day. Had the hairiest takeoff when the F4dropped a wing on launch, touched down and carried on until it skipped back in to the air. Thanks to the centreline tank it survived. I now have a GAD F6 Lightning in build which I'm taking a bit of time on.
Cheers

Hi Again.
Got the Mystere flying. It went well until the motor went pop just after a fast low pass downwind. The rapid reversal of direction got it almost back to the landing ground but instead I parked it knee height in a Hawthorne bush which tore up the nose pretty badly. The motor was being powered this time by a 3000 MaH 4s LiPo on an 80A esc and was too much volts for it. GAD promptly sent me a replacement motor and some new nose sections within the week and it is now back together and flying again (Fantastic customer support). A Multiplex Easy Cub has been assembled and going through the conversion to a flapped J3 (I know, J3's didn' t have flaps) in D Day markings. This thing will reverse in for the landing with a tailwind it can fly so slowly....Well seems it could. Electrified a Klingberg wing and that goes really well. Had it soaring with Buzzards and they didn't seem to mind it compared to conventional gliders. Built and maidened a mannic little thing called a Kila Watt from GAD. Great fun little foamy and goes faster than the proverbial.
Awaiting an operation on my knee so got a lot of time to kill. The building board doesn't know whats hit it.
Anyway. enough ramblings. Catch up later

3 more flights today with the F4. It goes well now. The Mystere is getting done bit by bit and should fly next week. Fixed my car and remembered to get the Wife's Easter eggs. A good day thus far.

Hi,
Well I had successful flights yesterday. The F4 sits right in the air with a good turn of speed and sounds nice with the two fans just in and out of sync. Landings were good also. When the weather improves I'll try with the 2200 LiPos. Almost done with my GAD Super Mystere. They're really fast build kits....My first workings with Depron and foams.

The F4 is coming on and will be ready to fly soon. The next project could well be a GAD gen III Super Mystere courtesy of GAD...Thanks Mike.

Well its been a long time. Quite a busy year. This one is starting a little slowly but is going to be mannic later. Of on the first Operation in a couple of days. Since the last entry the DragonFly has made her debut in both ic and electric form. The electric version is really pleasing and got my BMFA B test on her last weekend. Got a little EDF F4 Phantom on the building board. The second prototype with scale size wing and more powerful motors so should be interesting. If anyone is interested in my job it is here: http//www.meggittdefenceuk.com (its not everyones cup of tea but someones got to do it)

Hi All,
Its been a busy 1st Quarter 2009. Went to Kuwait with the targets, had a week after in which I test flew the Fairey Battle and broke it Got sent to Turkey to train the operators there on the new Banshee target and arrived home Yesterday evening to find I'm booked on a flight to Southern Africa on Monday for another Banshee operation! Haven't had time to do any more to the repairs, so its on hold until my return. I'll have some time to think out the next models anyway.

Cheers

Hi, Happy New Year to all.
Survived the festivities and returning to work in a couple of days. Got the Fairey Battle done and ready for the maiden flight. I am looking now to the next project... rework the F4, AT3 trainer scratchbuild, or something else. Never a bare building table!

Cheers

Well, still here in Bahrain. Hoped to be home today but work prevails and we will finish this Sunday evening. Got the F4 worked out regarding mods, and the Fairey Battle U/C is sorted (in my head anyway). I'll be glad to get home again for a week or so anyway.

Hi again,
Just arrived in Bahrain for a week or two, so current projects are on hold for a while. The Phantom flies well and deserves a second look to lighten the structure and ease the building skills needs. The next one may have ailerons instead of tailerons.
The Fairey Battle is coming on nicely and I can give some more thought to the build while i'm away, and to the next project ???

Hi,
Got to maiden the F4 today. It flies well but is certaintly no 3d machine. The tailerons are responsive but it doesn't like rolls...very barrelly and better to the left than right. Power off the glide ratio is around 1:4 but controllable to a flare and touchdown. Landings are easy with a little power to help. A video will follow when I can get a cameraman (Or Son) to assist.

Hi,
Its been a really busy year thus far, and theres still a couple more deployments before Xmas. Managed to start a little scratchbuild EDF F-4 Phantom on the 23rd September which is nearing completion for its maiden. Next on the drawing board is a Fairey Battle of around 40" span for electric power. Hopefully that will be built during the Xmas break.

Happy at last . Get to go home around the 15th feb. The next assignment beginning March is California for a few weeks . Chance to buy some more kit to feed the growing number of projects on the go. The Buccaneer project is drawn up and wood will be cut on my return home...wife permitting after the car household repairs are done, shopping done, any other chores are done etc etc .

Well,
Got home or Christmas and New Year, but am now back in Pakistan til the end of March. Got some drawing paper for the next two builds.....a Bucanneer 32" for 2 EDF 40s and a Horten IX again for TWIN Ef40/50. Might build a third Vampire to test some new ideas though. So much to do, so little build time.
Regards to all reading this.
