Well I was able to get the S/S in the air today and also put the
ETONIC special on it (SD Cam). Got a couple cool photos.
It was somewhat windy and I put in into a spin into the ground hard.
Broke the elevator and rudder. Fixed the rudder and made another elevator
from blue foam. I have 7 other kits, but why waste the parts.
Broke a couple more props, but due to stupid errors this time.
I'm getting the motor management down pretty good.
The last flight was the worst. One of those pesky light poles reached
out and grabbed my S/S and bent the fuse right behind the motor.
Oh well, I'll cut it off, insert a stick, and be as good as new.
I vow not to use one of my new kits till this thing is absolute junk !!

Well,
Too much wind today so no flying. The winds were blowing 5-10 mph with probably 20 mph gusts. I really did not feel like chasing the slow stick, or picking up parts. I especially did not want to break the new camera I got from Etonic on it's maiden flight. I was so looking forward to my first AP pics and video, but oh well, next weeks another chance. Better to wait than destroy my plane and camera.
Started building my Pico F this weekend. I forgot to use foam safe glue, so I melted it a little. Not too bad, nothing I can't fix. I know one thing, ZAP glue & kicker gets hot as hell. I got my finger on it while it was setting, and wow, did that ever sting! The plane looks pretty cool. Lousy tail dragger setup, worse then the cheapy S/S tailwheel. I will modify it with something better. I may even use a nylon skid, anything has to look better than a piece of wire.
I won a GWS B2 on Ebay so I should have that in a week to add to my collection. I really gotta unload the BN2's I have. Thay take up way too much space. Maybe I'll try to start building the one I got from Etonic a while back to see how I like them. I may keep an extra one if I do. Hell, maybe I'll make a quad motor BN2 !!! Wouldn't that be different.
I think I'll let the S/S in the truck so if I get a chance, I'll break it out this week @ work @ lunch. Maybe I can get a little flight time in then. Not much time after work, till I get home, take the dog out, eat, run, make dinner for wife (second shift) it's dark, so no flying then. Maybe when daylight savings time changes, I can get out more with the extra hour of light.

Well, I guess I'll try this blog thing out.

Sat. 3/11 was my maiden flight with the S/S.
Well actually I did fly once b4 but that does not count,
cause there's nothing (well a little bit) left of that plane and I knew absolutely nothing about flying R/C.
Since then I have read, read, read again, used FMS, read some more and finally, with a break in the weather, maidened my S/S. What a blast !!

First flight, maybe 30 seconds, lawn dart, broke prop.
Second flight, maybe 2 minutes, lawn dart, broke second prop. Getting better!
Third flight, maybe 5 minutes, tried to land on street, hit curb, yep you guessed it, broke prop.
Fourth flight, now my knees have stopped shaking, learned controlled motor speed, gentle stick movements, and slooooooow landing speed and I got probably 10-12 minutes till my battery was exhausted.
Swap battery, and away we go,
Fifth flight, I'm experienced now, do a low fast pass, uh oh, look out for the pole, yep, dumb thumb time, left, right, up , down, bam, into the street and prop #4 gone.
New prop, and now I fly for 15 minutes, nice slow touch & go's, up to about 200 feet, shut motor off, dead stick it in, touch the ground, nail throttle, and I'm off again.
I feel the battery starting to die off, so I bring her in and that's it for the day. What a flight day!
I AM LOVING THIS WAY TOO MUCH !!!

I am now dying for the weekend to get here!!!
I'm going to try the Aiptek cam I got off Etonic (thanks Mark) if the weather...Continue Reading
