Flew the Bee again yesterday. It flies great inverted. It was fun for an hour or so but the gusty conditions and changing direction made it seem more like work so I landed. I'd have flown alot more if there was combat.

Forrest showed up with his new Bee but left with a dead transmitter battery.

I'm having problems with the Expresso. I don't seem to be getting radio signal to the servos. I'll try another receiver tonight.

Maidened the Bee at dusk tonight. It needed loads of downtrim to get flying but after a few minutes I took it all out and it flew fine. Seems to wobble a bit until it picks up speed. The LEDs are a blast. I didn't want to spoil its looks by attaching the winglets with strapping tape so I used clear electrical tape. It blew on the second landing.

The JW progresses nicely. I hope to maiden it and the Expresso this weekend.

Flew up Grant Creek in variable winds. The F-80 likes the 12oz I glued in it. Unfortunately I forgot the elevator servo was stripped. I guess it needs surgery. The Weasel and XR flew great. Had some interesting Weasel/Bee/M60 combat with Jerry and Ronnie.

I finally got all the lights in my Bee. What a royal PITA. I had to spackle it smooth.

Went up south Sentinel with the boys. Front side lift is not as good as Glen Eagle but the backside groove is nice. Flew the XR as it's about the only thing that flys right now. Chris was DSing the carbon Bird, the Blade and the Bat. I could hear them from 150' away. Smokin' fast.

Ronny maidened the Spyder 60. That is sure a nice flyer.

Fixed the F-80. Glued the wing on. Rehinged the rudder on the Pitts, it's good to go. Got the lights laid out on the Bee, it's next. Need a pot to melt lead for the JW.

Big air.

Flew after work with Jerry, Ronnie and Chris. Crunched the front wing mount on the F-80 - again. I think I'll glue the wing right to the fuse this time. If it breaks again the gear goes in a new plane.

Flew the Fun-1 for a half hour with full ballast and it rocked. Unfortunately I got turned around coming out of the sun so when I righted what I thought was an inverted plane and pulled up away from the slope I actually rolled her inverted and nosed in. The wing is toast but everything else survived. I think I can fix the wing but I'm going to try to get another.

Jerry abused his M60 and needs repairs. His Carbannana needs a new servo. Ronnie flew the Bee as his Destiny is still awaiting repairs and the Spyder is under construction.

Chris flew the Blade 2M. It is an awesome plane and he has the skills for it. I've been wanting one but I think I'll hold off until I think I can handle it. Maybe I'll get a Destiny or a V2 first.

Maidened the Renny today. It flew well except the prop wouldn't fold. It just kept spinning like a 10" airbrake hanging on the nose. As soon as I turned off the throttle it would slow way down and tip stall in any but the gentlest of turns. I'll have to check the programming on the ESC and make sure the brake is on.

The JW progresses. The gear is in, or nearly. The epoxy potting the servos is drying. All the holes are cut. All the soddering is done. It's warm enough to put on the goop, maybe tomorrow.

Long time since the last entry. Haven't flown in months except for put-putting with the Easy Star a few times.

Flew the half ballasted Fun-1 yesterday for an hour until my hands froze. It was fast but looked slow compared to Jerry's new Carbon Bananna. Got to try more ballast. I think the spoilerons are dialed in, just have to remember to use them on landing some day.

The Renny is ready to maiden on the next warmish day I have free.

Started the JW tonight. The wing halves are glued together and the spars are CAd into their joiners. I'm going to take the radio gear out of the M60 for this plane.

Flown a couple of times, but not many. The season is about over.

The Renny is almost done but the speed control refuses to work. Ain't eBay grand? Have to decide what to do.

Jerry and Chris came over and we started working on the LED Bees. These will be a hoot when we get them in the air.

The Fun-1 crash took out the battery. I had a new one from cheapbatterypacks.com in less than 2 days - on a weekend! The new NiMH pack is an ounce lighter than the old NiCad and has about 20% more capacity. Best thing is it balances perfectly at the new c/g. I increased servo throw by moving the pushrods around and hopefully the will now have some effect. Winds are supposed to be goo tomorrow....

Flew the Fun-1 for an hour this afternoon in gusty 15-20 mph winds that kept switching direction from northish to southwestish and back. Decided the c/g is perfect. Unfortunately the wind shifted while I was on approach and I dumb thumbed it in. Damage is minimal, a couple of wing bolts and the vertical snapped off, nothing a bit of CA won't cure. Unfortunately the weight I was balancing it with came off so I'll have to try again.

Went to Soar Utah over Labor Day. Nice bunch of folks, not much wind. It finally came up on Sunday. Saw about 5 midairs in the first hour. Flew the F-80 for a bit but it was a pig in the air next to all those mouldies. I guess I need a 2M mouldie now.

Been flying the Fun-1 alot but the wind has been high and turbulent. I need a smooth afternoon to nail the cg so I can install the ballast system so I can have more fun when the wind is high.

I'm afraid the M60 might be dead. Despite repairs and moving the cg all over the place it won't fly right. Maybe I should give it up and get a new plane. Maybe that mouldie.

I'll have the Renny done soon if Hilaunch ever sends me the horns I ordered.

Fixed the F80.

Worked on the M60. Still need to hinge the elevons and balance it.

Installed the Westbender Balls and hinged the Renny tail.

Didn't fly.

Strong and turbulent lift today. Flew the Fun-1 alot and I think I've got the c/g where I want it. Time to install the ballast kit.

Bounced the F80 mildly and broke the front wing hold down blind nut out of the ply plate it was glued to. I thought the whole idea was that the plastic bolt would break first. Oh well, some 5 min epoxy and it'll be good as nearly new. Moved the c/g forward a bit and I think it helped. It needs reduced aileron throws.

The M60 is coming along, I'll try to finish it tonight.

Remaidened the F80 in 30+ mph winds. It needed about 15 clicks of down just to make it over the lip. It seemed ok though hard to tell in that much wind. I hope to try it again tomorrow in more sedate conditions. I have a feeling the cg is just a little too far back.

The XE is fixed.

The M60 has 2 cracked spars. There is PU drying now, we'll see how it goes.

The F80 is ready to remaiden.

The Renny wing tips are drying too.

I probably won't get to fly til after our trip to AZ, we'll be back on the 8th.

30mph winds this afternoon. The M60 screamed til I augered in. I think the cg was a bit far back for the conditions. It was pretty squirrelly. I got it inverted and didn't realize it and the next thing it was in. Looked for the fin 10 min before I found it. I hope I can fix the plane. I don't think the wing is square to the fuse any more. Maybe it's time for a Halfpipe.

I broke the center seam on the XR again. I think PU and fiber tape and some ultracote over it will fix it. I'll take the opportunity to re hinge the elevons, maybe make new ones.

Since the last entry I've flown a half dozen times. The P-40 is again ready to maiden. The motor mount is in the Renny.

Since the last entry I tried to maiden the P-40. At the field the elevator looked funny. The control horn had broken off between the rod and the elevator. So far I've broken this plane twice and still haven't flown it.

Flew the EasyStar too and it flew fine after repairs. It needed 1/4oz at the tail to rebalance it.

Today I went up Glen Eagle with Jerry and Ronnie. The wind was variable and, at times, the Weasel, XR, M-60 and Fun-1 all flew well. Jer flew his M-60 and it flew well after repairs. Ronnie's Zagi flew as well as ever. Once again he had more hits and recoveries than either Jerry or I.

Still need to recover the wing on the F-80.

Finished the P-40 again. I had broken the fuse while trying to get the spinner on.
Remounted the rudder horn on the Pitts so it won't bind with the elevator.

Almost done fixing the EasyStar. I crunched it pretty good flying in winds that I should have been sloping in about a week and a half ago. Still have to solder the Deans back on the ESC.

Flew the Weasel in light air for an hour or so this afternoon.

Pics here.

A very nice Father's Day and a good end to vacation.

Made some good progress on the P-40 which arrived this week. It's a Cox Micro warbird.

Balanced the M60. Moved the pushrod on the Pitts but will have to redo it as the elevator is binding.

Flew the EasyStar and got in a dogfight with a couple of crows. Jerry and Ronnie maidened their warbirds. Ronnie's Spitfire flew great. Jerry's Corsair will fly again after some glue.

The wind is supposed to be good tomorrow afternoon.

Flew the XR, Weasel and M60 with Jerry and Ronnie. Great fun. Ronnie took out Jerry very nicely. Jerry's M60 did a few snap rolls into the ground.
