Started the JART . I glued the spar together. I also put a hardpoint of epoxy and microballoons into the wing for the Fun-1.

Worked on the new Fun-1 wing. Cut and routed the servo holes, made wire channels with the sharpened brass tube and glued the halves together.

We flew Bees and Weasels and the JW today. John was there with his Moth. This makes 12 times out flying in 25 days, lightweight for some but a new record for me.

Flew thw Expresso, Bee and Weasel all evening with Jerry and Chris who had to leave early for the Idaho road trip.

Jerry and I flew with the nighthawks in the dark until about 11. Susan even came up to watch.

I went up early on Saturday and pretty much got skunked, then I got called to work. I just went home after and suffered allergies. Jer says it got good later, oh well.

After the last flight I took about 2oz out of the tail of the JW. Tonight it flew really well. I let Chris wring it out and he suggested adding just a bit more nose weight. It flew even better. I'll check the cg tomorrow and maybe take the rest of the lead out of the tail.

Chris trimmed out the Expresso for me too. I had reduced the aileron throws just a bit so he didn't do much. We got the butterfly to elevator mix straightened out.

After that it was Bees and Weasels with Chris, Larry, Jerry, Ronnie and Forrest. It was blowing really hard but dropped off to just light air right before sunset. We were going to fly after dark but the wind quit.

There were a couple of pairs of nighthawks chasing each other around the sky and occasionally diving on each other and us. It would be cool to be a nighthawk.

I put 2 1/2 oz on the nose of the JW and it flew. Not great but it flew. It stalled every time it slowed down, you really have to keep it moving. I could probably move the cg up a little bit more. I'll start by taking weight out of the tail, shouldn't have glued it in.

Flew the Espresso in nice lift. I didn't really wring it out, I'm still getting used to it. It needs more down elevator mixed into butterfly to make the airbrake usable. It would be nice to have airbrake, it doesn't want to slow down. I think I had to make a dozen approaches tonight.

The new battery for the Bee arrived. I'll charge it tonight. Surgery is coming - a battery transplant.

Flew the Bee for a bit then it was time to try the JW. It was a disaster. Not a crash damage disaster, it just wouldn't fly 15ft. I thought it was nose heavy so I kept adding weight to the tail. I finally got it to coast around with full up elevator but it was just wrong. Maybe it's tail heavy. I'll have to think about it.

I beat it up pretty good trying to get it to fly. I never had a plane look this bad before I actually flew it.

Flew the Expresso for about 20 min before having to go to the H.S. Band meeting. It was pretty bumpy out there but the plane was up to it. I was on the cross slope leg of my approach when it quit responding and disappeared over the south edge of the slope. Fortunately it landed itself in a bush with no damage. When I took off the canopy and started poking around I found the switch lead had come unplugged from the receiver. I have to redo the tray so there is a little more slack or get some extensions and move the receiver forward.

Ronnie maidened his Weasel today. It needed almost an ounce in the nose. Once it was balanced it flew great, at least as well as mine. We flew them and Jerry flew the WW for almost two hours in light winds.

The wind came up as the sun was setting. Jerry threw out the Carbon Banana to prospect for lift and it was there. It was time to maiden the Expresso, or as we've been calling it, the Coffee Plane. Six or seven clicks of down elevator and it was flying well. It retains speed and makes that great moldie scream on close passes. The crow setting is going to need a bit more down elevator. I flew it for 10 min or so and then shot a half dozen approaches before landing it. The lift pretty much died after the landing. I'm going to add more down to the crow mix and also lower the aileron low rate or maybe add some expo on that channel.

The JW is done and awaits the right wind. AUW is 43oz . It needed 2 1/2 0z in the tail to balance it on the spar. I think the build thread I followed was for a 60" version and mine is a 54". I also used a 5 cell battery.

Flew the Weasel in the rain. Still no maiden for the Coffee Plane.

The XR is dead for some reason. Battery? Receiver? I have no flyable combat wing.

A For Sale sign has sprouted on the hill top.

Flew at Fort Missoula this evening.

The Pitts hit a pebble or something on taxi and nosed over, chewing up the prop and cracking the foam. It's the first time I've crashed before takeoff. This plane literally is the pits for me.

The Easy Star flew well on 2 cells. It lacked a little oomph. I might try it on 3 but I'll probably burn the motor.

The Renny flew nicely again. It porpoised a bit, I'll try moving the c/g back a bit. When I picked it up after landing the spinner/prop were gone. Turns out it was right there in the grass. Good thing it didn't fall off in the air, I'd never have found it. I know this because I must have dropped it while walking back to the car. I pretty much knew where it was and it still took 20 min to find.

Flew again tonight in light and variable winds with Chris, Larry and Jerry. Mostly flew the Weasel. The event of the day for me was a very nice remaiden of the Renny. It flies great and climbs out nicely.

The wind got strong and shifted late in the day, coming around from the north east. I tried to fly the Bee but the damned battery was dead despite charging it last night. Time to cut it out.

June already.

Flew Bees with Jerry, Ronnie, Chris and Larry for a few hours this evening. I think I got knocked down by everybody. The lift was light and variable. I didn't maiden the expresso. Maybe tomorrow.
