I finally got out ot the field and flew her again last weekend. What a plane. Just so sweet to fly. I am getting 10 minutes out of my 4000 packs and they are only down to 3.7v or so.

At our field we have a LOT of guys flying 25%, 30%, 45% planes. Now I have nothing against big planes (other than being hard to store and transport). But if you listen to a lot of these guys, you would think nothing less than 25% can be flown in the wind. I think a lot of this is a fad personally. A lot of these guys just want to have the biggest plane at the field on a given day. We had about 10-15 mph at 90 degrees crosswind. Not ideal, but not a problem for the little Extra. I was able to fly just as well as they were. In fact I thought it was funny that the one guy with the 30% Cap was practicing torque rolls and he wasn't having much luck. I heard him comment that it was too windy and he was getting blown across the field too fast. So I proceeded to do a couple 3 rotation torque rolls in the same spot on my next flight Boy does she look pretty hanging on the prop like that...

Anyways... I don't know if I'll be able to get any more flights in this season or not. What a horrible year for flying it has been here. Most rain ever this year. Our field was like a sponge even after a week of no rain. Here's hoping next year is a little more friendly.

I don't know what else to say about the E-Flite Extra 300. It is a fantastic plane. I have downsized my hangar and I only intend to...Continue Reading

Was able to get out and fly again finally this past week. Unfortunately I stripped the elevator servo on my Extra 300. Luckily I caught it during pre-flight before my 3rd flight of the day. It must have happened during my 2nd flight because I had a crazy landing out of nowhere. I was running the stock JR Sport MN48's all around. I wish I would have used Hitech 225mg's. I replaced it with a JR 3421 Digital MG, which is an awesome servo. Heading to the field tomorrow morning weather permitting.

May 17th and still haven't been able to fly the Extra again yet... This is the worst Spring I can remember. Getting frustrated.

We finally got some warm weather today. Unfortunately it was way too windy to fly. There has not been one good flying day since I maidened the Extra and it is now April 23rd. What's worse is that the forecast is calling for 7-10 days of rain. Grrrrrr.... I don't remember a colder wetter April. I guess I don't mind that I am still waiting on my Habu32 since I won't be flying anytime soon. I guess I'll try again in May?!?!

Successful Maiden today! She flys like a dream. I wasn't sure it would happen due to weather and other setbacks. When I was trying to push on the Dubro large control arms, I actually pushed the elevator servo and the plywood mount inside the fuse. I guess I should be happy I found out while it was here on the ground..that could have been a disaster. That's kind of ridiculous to have a dry glue joint way inside the model where you can't check it. Oh well, I was very pleased with my 2 flights. I have never had a plane that flew with literally just a click or two of trim. Can't wait for better weather!

I did my first taxi test yesterday. I need more rudder throw for sure. I need some Dubro large servo arms, but the LHS doesn't have them. I might have to wait until Fri. and pick them up at the Toledo show. I got the TM1000 telemetry installed and bound to my DX8. Very cool. I went ahead and set the low voltage alarms for the flight pack and RxR volt. I just need to dial in the control throws, balance, and I'm ready for maiden. Unfortunately it is snowing here in the Cleveland area today and the next week doesn't look a whole lot better. I'm going to postpone the maiden until it at least gets into the mid 40's. It's almost April and we are in the low 30's... grrrr. Oh well, I don't feel so bad that I am still waiting on my Habu32.

Almost there. Waiting on new props, Telemetry flight pack adapter, and velcro. Going to work on the DX8 setup tonight. Have to solder on some EC3 connectors onto my GensAce 4s4000 packs. Hope to get her ready for maiden this weekend or next week. Isn't she pretty

I've really been taking my time because the weather is so bad that I couldn't fly if I wanted to, but I think this ARF could be built on a Saturday if you really tried. It has been a straight forward build so far. I found that the factory forgot to cut the middle hinges on the stab. They included extra CA hinges so it wasn't a big deal, but just another QC issue for the offshore factories. Here she sits tonight, waiting for the canopy glue to dry. She is a pretty bird. I really admire the clean lines. Starting to get excited

Had to cut day two short due to a lack of 30 min. epoxy. Grrr.... I thought for sure I had some, but nope. LHS is closed now so I'll have to pick some up after Church tomorrow. I've got all the servos and the Rx installed. I'm running a Spektrum AR6200. I think I will add the Telemeltry modual too before I put her up. I really like the way the gear mounts to the fuse. very slick. The pants are high quality, and the built in blindnuts made the install a snap. I just hope there is enough plywood in there. Seems like the last few ARFs I've built wind up pulling the gear out. We shall see.

Today I got the wings done, installed the Power32, E-Flite 60A ESC, and cowling. Believe it or not, I am 1/3 done with the build at this point!

One thing I am not sure of is why I have such a large gap between spinner and cowling. I followed the instructions and used the supplied spacers and the recommended motor, but the gap looks way too big. I'll probably pull it off and use some much smaller spacers. I followed the directions to the letter, this shouldn't have happened. Oh well. Here are pics from today:

I have everything I need for my new Habu32 except for the airframe so it looks like the E-Flite Extra 300 is first up on the build table. I just unboxed it tonight and I am really impressed with the packing. I have never seen an ARF packed so well. Kudos E-Flite! The overall quality of the airframe looks very good. I am anxious to get her ready for her maiden. Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks if all goes well weather wise. Here we go.
