Recently started working @ www.gravesrc.com . Great bunch of folks to work for/with. Never a shortage of amusing aerial anecdotes to go around.
If any of you are ever in the Orlando/Central Florida area come check us out.
I can guarantee you if this is your first visit, I'll only see the underside of your chin as your head swivels up to check out some of the 400+ RTF planes hanging from the ceiling! RC Helis, trucks, planes, and boats are all on hand. We get folks from all over the world that come here-we'll see you soon! If you can't make it by then order online and have it shipped.
Already met a bunch of local RCG'ers, best part of the business is meeting new pilots. Keep 'em flyin'!

Here's my bud Blake flying the Extra 300 SHP 87" at the Ocala Electric Fly-In 2009. Great event, lots of fun. Thanks to Manateerc.com for shooting the video. Also have some better footage of the Extra down on the deck after the event. Will post some later and also hope to get some more great footage at the 3DHS Owners Throwdown this weekend at Mid Florida RC Club's field-should be a hoot! Look forward to meeting all the rest of the 3DHS junkies...
Video is about the middle of the page:

Finally got around to making a new set of test wings for the full fuse Clik-3D. Last set were OK just not exactly what we were looking for. These came out lighter @ 1.6oz each without paint and SFG. Also changing SFG placement and size for testing purposes. Always something new to try out...

UPDATE: Got a quick test flight out today. Needs a little down and right thrust added. Also need to move pack back some more. Had to cut in an extra hatch for a more rearward pack placement. Rudder servo started acting funny so will have to investigate that. Blake did some light pattern with it and it looked pretty stable, needs some trim/thrust angle work and it should be good to go. Plenty of power from the MicroDan 2510-1300kv motor. Trying out a Cermark 10 x 7. Tried a GWS 10 x 6 HD and it flexed forward and cavitated badly. The Cermark prop seems right on the mark, power to spare.

Had some time during the Playoff Game today to work on my new foamie. Trying for a robust fuse and more 3D oriented airframe than what we've been doing lately. 40" WS-trying for 17oz AUW with a MicroDan 2510-3D/Fusion-Pack 11.1v 1300 25c pack/CC25/4 x Futaba 3114's. Planning on some fuse, surface trimming if neccesary. Dogone it, always seems to be some improvement that can be made. If everything works then a full fuse wing version as well. Should be more fun-stay tuned. Thought about a name-Klimaxx 3D? LOL Any suggestions?

EDIT: Paint job finished, now time for the fun part-equipment installation!...Continue Reading

Man, they'll let anyone have a website these days! LOL Blakes web designer friend started up a website for him to put all the vids and pics in one spot. Stay tuned for more updates/vids/pics in the future. Who knows, maybe even a product or two...Here's some pics of 3DHS Extra 300 SHP 87" flown @ Tangerine Airfest 2008 at RCACF field in Apopka, Fl a couple of weeks ago. Pictures by Barry Vaught. Was the only e-powered prop plane there and the crowd loved it. One guy even started arguing with me that it couldn't be electric-it's too big! He believed me when it got in the air. I tried telling him that this wasn't the largest e-power system out there-you can go up to 150cc size now and he really thought I was pulling his leg.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year with lots of RC flying! Here's some shots of Bipe-X over the last year. We've had lots of fun testing them out. Just grabbed a Scorpion 2215-18T to try out, will report on that later. Should have a few more amps at the cost of slightly reduced flight time.

Regards,
Jason & Blake

Found this one in the archives and somehow didn't post it. Here's Blake flying an aeromusical routine at Roar and Soar 2007 in Lakeland, Fl. Kermit Weeks came up and offered to let Blake get a flight in his Extra=cool! Everyone put on a good showing for the crowd. For some reason they really liked smoke Had to edit out the original audio, there was a country band playing in the background while Franz Ferdinand was playing at the same time. Very annoying if you're trying to fly a routine to 2 different kinds of music!

Congrats to all participants and organizers of the Tangerine Pattern Classic @ RCACF in Apopka, Fl. Very nicely run event. Senior pattern, AMA, FAI contests were all run very smoothly and everyone had a great time. Fliton rep was there and donated an Element 170 for the raffle grand prize. And congrats to my friend Blake Hilson-1st place in Advanced Pattern! Nice job dude. I'm sure you'll keep up the good work thru the year. Funny moment-Chip Hyde was taunting a couple of Labs that were going nutz over Bipe-X and one took a chunk out of the rudder when Chip was hovering over their heads. I told the dog he better learn how to mill depron-he owes me a rudder! We all got a good laugh out of that. See ya' next year for Tangerine '09. Here's a thread on RCU with some more pics:

Shot at Roar and Soar 2008 in Lakeland, Fl at Fantasy of Flight. Jason's having some fun with a 50% Clipped Wing Cub powered by a DA170. Even slightly underpowerd it still comes off the runway in about 1/2 of a wheel revolution. Sorry for the shoddy camera work, I was trying not to laugh at the announcer who kept saying " The plane really doesn't want to fly like this, and this is a really dangerous maneuver", etc. The inverted harrier near the end is a riot. Thanks for the demo Jason. And thanks to Kermit Weeks and FOF for another great show!

Here's a couple of pattern oriented vids of Clik-X. I'm sure Blake would say this isn't his best NATS winning piloting but looks pretty good for a 11oz. flat foamie!
Setup:
MicroDan 2505-3D
Pheonix 10
Fusion-Pack 600mah 11.1v 25c battery
GWS 9 x 5 HD prop
Castle Creations 6v UBEC
3 x Futaba 3154 servos

Here's Blake having some fun around the yard with the new Clik-X. It's got some fuse alterations and smaller SFGs. 3 x 3154's powered by a Castle Creations 6v BEC. Really nice control now. Overkill for a foamie-maybe. Fun as heck-definitely! Stay tuned for a couple more vids of Clik-X in action. For one of the vids we attached a smoke bomb-kind of looks like an .049 conversion of the Clik-X
Setup:
MicroDan 2505-3D
Pheonix 10
Fusion-Pack 600mah 11.1v 25c battery

Ok, here's the second video with smoke! Alright, not thick smoke but smoke nonetheless Sort of lipo fire/ESC burning up look to it. Keep in mind the extra smoke bomb and mounting tray added up to 2oz to the AUW and the MicroDan didn't even seem to care. Super powerful motor for this size plane-and to think Dan's going to make a slightly more powerful 2505-3D! Yeyah!

Here's a vid of the new Shulman Aviation Exhila 3D ARF. That's my buddy Blake Hilson on the sticks huckin' it up. Designed by Jason Shulman for 3D fun. Very docile on low rates, turn up the rates and get Exhilirated! Will do wild tumbling manuevers and anything else you throw at it. The large wheels and ample landing gear make ground handling a snap. For use with 3s 1300+mah sized packs and the new Fury 28/27-1022 brushless outrunner or any other similar sized motor that can spin a 10 x 4.7SF to 11 x 7 DD prop. Very easy for beginners to learn 3D and rewarding for those more advanced pilots. Slows to a crawl for high alpha hijinx or let it rip for some tight waterfalls, spins, and tumbles. Keep your eyes open for an E-zone review soon. Exhila Features:

2 trim schemes to choose from - red/white/purple or orange/white/green
Landing gear and lightweight wheels included
Carbon Fiber triple spar system

Here's another Clik-X with a tweak or two. Tested out smaller SFG's on the previous version, seemed to work well so I'm installing them on this one. Probably skip the LG-who needs em'? Will post some finished pics soon. Should be just as fun as the rest of them

EDIT: Here's another one for the scrapbook. Thinking of renaming this series of foamies Vizion 3D in honor of my buddy Blake. He'll soon be sponsored by the U.S. Army! Godspeed dude! ...Continue Reading

Here's some video we managed to shoot when the wind finally died down. Been 15-20mph all week Kind of long video but I'm too lazy to edit some more, so here ya' go. We'll shoot some more this week hopefully with some more daylight in the picture. Kind of cool flying around the moon though...

Here's my Xtrema charger/wattmeter readings of the MicroDan 2510/11x7/Fusion Pack 1300 11.1v 25c lipo power setup. Looks like it peaked @ 19amps and settled out around 16-17amps Nice!

Sorry for the quality but it came out OK when I edited it and when I put it on youtube it looks really blurry Still good static readings.

Finally got 'er done. Blake got a couple of test flights in yesterday. Flies even better than V1.0. Fusion pack 3s 1300 25c seems to work well too. Barely warm. Just playing around with the camera and took some shots-my dog Max thought he would get in the pics too. Stay tuned for some vids...

Congrats to all participants and contestants @ the 2008 AMA NATS Pattern Championships! Big congrats goes out to Jason, Andrew and Brett for representing Team USA in Portugal next year. And another big congrats goes to my buddy Blake Hilson for winning 1st Place in Intermediate Pattern! Good job dude. 1st time Nats contestant and he grabs the gold. Keep up the good work. Guess I'll have to start on your pattern bipe prototype now... Here's a few pics from his trip and a link to the AMA newsletter:

Blake also got to fly over the AMA site in a J-3 Cub. Here's the vid, sorry for the rude hand gestures I think that was basic runway hand signalling.

Here's some mug shots of Bipe-X V1.2. 4 x Futaba S3154's all 'round. Mmmm...digital creamieness. Should have it done next day or so depending on schedule/weather. Have Fusion-pack 1300 25c to test out too. Looks like this build is coming out lighter too-always a good thing. Has a few subtle changes from V1.0. Later...

Got to check out V1.0 and 2.0 back to back today. A real contrast. V2.0 is obviously more 3D oriented with the shorter moments and chordier(is that a word?) wing. V2.0 made Blake mad cuz' it didn't need any rudder to knife edge. LOL I'll going to make some adjustments to help out with that. It will bite its tail now in KE loops and waterfalls. I almost did 2 KE loops by mistake when I was only going for 1 the first time I tried it. Hovers like a dream. I could even sit it there nice and stable like I knew what I was doing. Roll rate was better even though ailerons look a lot bigger than V1.0. As far as comparing the 2, V1.0 is more pattern/3D and V2.0 is just plain 3D fun. Rolling harriers all good, KE flight not quite as smooth as V1.0 but tighter radius for sure. Does about 5' loops inverted & upright. Same for KE loops. And suprisingly it actually has a decent glide ratio with power off. Different fuse construction was solid, no flex in the wings or tail area at all. I'll be using that construction method in some other projects in the works. All in all V2.0 is "twitchier" IMO but fun nonetheless. V1.0 is a lot smoother. I'm going to make another V1.0 for with some minor changes and 1 for Blake AKA" Mr. Precision". He wants to make it almost totally a pattern bipe for backyard practice. We'll do some more changes and see what works best and then shoot a Compare and Contrast video of the two. Personally like V1.0 too, I need something to smooth my flying out! V2.0 is a blast for backyard 3D fun. More soon...

Finally got the time to finish her off, now if the weather will co-operate. Don't feel like doing the Ben Franklin thing with a new plane! Here in Central Florida(lightning capitol of the world) I can see and hear some thunder bumpers kicking up now so have to wait till tommorrow for the maiden. AR6000 is recessed into the fuse as well as most of the servo leads. Kind of cleans it up a little. ESC is hidden too, but still has plenty of ventilation. AUW with 1320 comes in @ 18.5oz. Still better than V1.0. Vids soon...
