Flying Solo

Yes, in this 173rd installment, I am flying solo - no one is with me in the workshop this week. That's okay, though. We still have plenty of info for you, and the show this week is not NEARLY as long as last week's. LoL

There are a few news items this week, but mainly it's all about your RC Tips that you've submitted for the contest this month.

Be sure that you get in on our contest; it's sponsored by our good friends over at SlowBipe.com. All you have to do is email me your favorite RC Tip, or even post it on our Facebook Fan Page. At the end of August, we'll throw all of the entries into a hat and draw the winner. That lucky person wins a MiniBipe kit!!! We've had a ball reading the submissions that we've received thus far!

Another Really Big Show!

Yes, we really push our file limitations with our hoster on this one. I apologize up fron if our 172nd show eats up a lot of space on your listening device - we just had so much to share! We've got lots of great listener tips this week, as well as some great news around the interwebs, including another cool contest from our favorite MultiRotor forums. Also, we have the RCadvisor back with us ending this week's podcast with an explanation of How Airplanes Fly.

Be sure that you get in on our latest contest; it's sponsored by our good friends over at SlowBipe.com.

Good Cheap Foam

This week, it's NavionFlyer that's my co-host and we record show number 171, but this time I'm recording in the new Studio! We break it in right with some news, some letters, and our main topic this week is about some interesting videos Tim found from a guy that's building some need planes out of Dollar Tree Foam (you know, the 20" x 30" stuff you get for only a buck?).

Also, be sure that you get in on our latest contest; it's sponsored by our good friends over at SlowBipe.com. All you have to do is email me your favorite RC Tip, or even post it on our Facebook Fan Page. At the end of August, we'll throw all of the entries into a hat and draw the winner. Pushing To The Limit

This week, the two Tims and I try to shed a little light on different ways of getting your servos actions to the control surfaces of your airplane. Yep, it's all about pushrods! Also, we announce a new contest, too! On our September 2nd show we get to give away a cool Mini SlowBipe Kit from our friends over at SlowBipe.com, so be sure you listen and get the dope on how you can enter!

The Old Man And The Sea

First off, I want to apologize for the poor sound quality (on my track) in this 169th installment of our show. I have torn everything up in my workshop while doing this 'Studio build' and unfortunately, all of my professional-grade recording equipment is BURIED! LoL If all goes as planned, I'll be recording our next episode in the new digs and the quality I have always prided myself in should return.

This week, we take a little diversion from our normal RC aircraft discussions and delve into the world of RC Sailing, and who better to tap on this subject than our buddy and avid sailer, Grandpa Tony! This sounds like a great way to keep those thumbs (and brain) nimble on those days that are just not quite right for flying, and Tony shares with us the gear he uses and how it all works.

Power Connectors

After last weekend off due to Field Day, Karl and I are back this week with our 168th installment. I get to give a good, in depth review of the Harbor Freight generator that I broke in last weekend, and we also bring you some various news items we've found on the interwebs, too. The RCadvisor is also back this week with discussion of a new material he's found that we would LOVE to find it's way to the model aircraft arena!

All And Sundry

We've got lots of cool things to discuss during this 167th installment of our show, so I'm certain that you can find something of interest! We talk about FPV antennas, and flying, and building, and the changes I'm making to my FPV SlowStick, and our definition of "scratchbuilding", and Fathers Day, and the upcoming Field Day event next week, and a lot of other things. LoL Please note that the show will be "dark" next week since Tim and I will both be HAMming it up next week, but we'll be back the following week.

Two Tims And A Karl

Well, we're back this week with our 166th installment of the show! Just as we did last week with Karl, this week we break in another new co-host that will be helping us out - my friend Tim "NavionFlyer" Walker! Tim's endeavoring into the FPV game and tells us a little about where he is with his Bixler/SkySurfer project, so he fits right in. We talk about some great investment opportunities, a new plane I'm working on, and the RCadvisor pops in again with his thoughts on Battery Maintenance, so be sure to give this one a listen.

Flying Cats And Bigfoot

Our 165th installment is quite full of crazy stuff, as the title kind of suggests. In this show, we have a new co-host (KarlK) warming Ron's vacant seat, and he does a nice job, too! We cover a little bit of everything this week, but I assure you (Laine, especially) that we have no recipes or other "Oprah-like" content this week. LoL Oh, and the RCadvisor has a great segment on BEC's including the differences between Linear and Switch-mode types, so if you've been in the dark with this topic, this is a great one to check out!

Retros And Big Foam

In this, our 164th installment of the show, we share all that we have this week on the RC Hobby. There's talk of a new plane reminiscent of an era long gone, talk of a 31 foot foamie (hear that Laine??), a Texas Fly-In hosted by some great people, a really nifty sailplane video, and some other general hobby talk. The RCadvisor is back, as well, answering some questions about a listener's Bell X1 project.

My buddy Ron will be stepping away from the mic after this episode, as his work schedule has changed and interfers with our recording schedule. But no worries, we'll try to get him back on from time to time to keep up with his RC adventures. Thanks for all your help, Ronbo!

Duck Lipping

Yeah, well you'll just have to listen to understand what this week's title is all about. I am ashamed of myself..so incredibly ashamed. In this 163rd installment, we discuss the new plane I ordered and why, what I've been burning up the sky with, and some more interesting things found on the interwebs. Heck! We even go over a few listener emails, to boot! Also, the Ask The RCadvisor segment this week is a cool discussion on V-Tails on our aircraft!

Neckstraps And Aquarium Pumps

This week we offer up our 162nd podcast, and true to our normal form, we cover a lot of ground (including some interesting, but off-topic, stuff). I give some insight on a custom transmitter neckstrap I am making and we also describe a new approach to pumping fuel into your slimers (thanks, Greg!). Tim has had some fun with his new (and somewhat STOLEN! LoL) Sherline 5400 Mill by trying it out on a Mother's Day present for his wife, and Ron shares what all he's been up to while he was away from us. Also, the RCadvisor is back again this week with an insightful discussion on the different types of RC pilots (it certainly made me stop and think!).

Dissecting The Duck

Well, I'm back at home after a fun-filled week in Americis, GA, and after Tim and I do a little re-hash of SEFF, I get into a "dissection" of the old Mud Duckling sharing my experience with the plane (my mistakes and things I will do differently with the next rendition). I also talk a bit about a friend's radio that I saw at SEFF, and Carlos is back again with another "Ask The RCadvisor" segment (learn about choosing the perfect trainer). Oh, and we have a few news items to share, too!

SEFF 2012

While at SEFF this year, we were able to get together and discuss all of the goodness that was known as of Friday night, April 27th. I hope you enjoy our nonsense. And please excuse the less-than-optimal audio quality - hey, we were in a camper at SEFF! LoL

Sorry for this one being kinda late - I just got home!

The New SlowBipe Stunt Bipe

Hey, gang! There's been tons going on since we last visited with you, what with the Toledo Weak Signals Show and SEFF 2012 preparation. In this 159th installment, we discuss what we heard from the the big show in Toledo (neither of us were able to attend) what with a few product announcements and some great pictures a listener shared with us. And in prep for SEFF, well, you should see my workshop - it's a mess! LoL I did, however, get turned on to a great new addition to SlowBipes fleet - the new StuntBipe! In fact, you'll get to see it first-hand (and maybe even fly it) if you're attending SEFF. I was really impressed with it!

We also get another visit from the RCadvisor with a discussion on wing incidence. And hey, if you've got a few minutes to spare, you should check out a couple of very informative new videos that Carlos has released (in the links below).

Once last note: Tim and Eli are planning to pluck the winner of our RACores Mini Gremlin GiveAway sometime this week! If you cruise over to our FaceBook Fan Page, you can see a photo of my completed one. If you don't win this one, please consider ordering one from Jim. They're inexpensive, easy to build, and are a great way to get your friends into combat!

Be sure to check out this week's show and links HERE, and come say Hey! to me at SEFF!!

Event Prep

Since all three of your Crash Cast hosts are planning the pilgrimage to SEFF 2012 later this month, we thought it a good idea use this 158th installment to go over some of the preparation you might want to go through before going on a trip like this, be it a trip to your local flying field, or a long haul to an out-of-town or out-of-state-event. Also, the RCadvisor is back again with another Ask The RCadvisor segment - this time you'll get some great tips for preparing for a maiden flight on that new aircraft.

Come on! You know you wanna listen! You can hear the show and see out links HERE. Also, if you use iTunes to provide your media, then search us out there by typing in TheCrashCast (all one word).

Safety At The Field

In our 157th installment, we finish up our three-part series on safety, so now there are no excuses for accidents - we told you! LoL Also, the RCadvisor is back again this week with his second part to his series on Spins, so you'll want to hear this one to learn what you may do if you should find yourself stuck in one. Oh, yeah, there's also more of our usual banter, but I promise, no more lengthy discussion by old men fussing about our ailments.

Pain And Suffering

In this 156th installment of the show, we'll start right off on some pain and suffering that Ron has been putting up with. Yep, we're just a couple of old guys fussing about our ailments. LoL Honestly, though, we do get into some fun RC talk, so if you want to skip through the first 12 minutes, or so, we'll fully understand.

There is, however, some great discussion on some of the letters we have received, as well as some of the pictures you guys have posted over on our Facebook Fan Page for our Mini Gremlin GiveAway sponsored by our buddy Jim over at RACores. We will be giving away this plane in April, and all you have to do to enter is to post your best crash picture on the Fan Page and you'll be entered in to our GiveAway. If you don't have a Facebook account, but still want to get in, just email me directly with your picture and whatever details you'd like to share, and I'll post it for you.

Oh, and you won't want to miss this week's Ask The RCadvisor segment, as Carlos starts into a two-part series on Spins and Spiral Dives. Good stuff!

Doing The Safety Dance

Yes, that's right - three "40-somethings" out looking for a safe alternative to the "pogo". I bet that left a lot of you behind in the dust! LoL

Seriously, though, it's that time of year again where we will be blowing the dust off of our toys and making weekly pilgrimages to our favorite flying sites. Once a year we like to talk a little about safety in this hobby and we start the ball rolling in this episode where we discuss some tips for safe travel to and from your flying field. In this 155th installment, we've also got some news, as well as another great segment from the RCadvisor - this time it's a bit of a continuation on last week's tips for becoming a better RC pilot. Carlos shares a great site that details aerobatic maneuvers, as well as their "K Factors" ( level of difficulty), and how you might select the maneuvers right for you to become a more accomplished pilot.
