Our 221st episode of the show marks our first time to record/stream on Wednesday! We didn't really have much to discuss in this one, since we just did a show last Sunday. LOL Nevertheless, we pulled together and tried something a little different - we grabbed three of our listeners that were there for the live stream of the show, and found out what THEY had been up to!
Guest #1 turned out to be RCRich! It was nice getting a chance to visit with him for a bit. He's busing preparing for NEAT Fair. We have talked a bit about Rich because we are fans of his designs (remember the Flying Monster and the Flying Minion?)
Guest #2 was Joel 'MetroGTi' Dirnberger, and he was taking a break from packing to listen to the show. You see, Joel will be heading out to Watts Over Owatonna!
Guest #3 was Joe Ford from Castle Creations! Joe popped on after some prodding by Laine. We had a chance to show him some love for his company's products and great customer service. Joe told us a bit about the new Castle Serial Link, and we got to share with him some things that WE would like to see from Castle in the form of a more affordable ESC for Multi-Rotors.
This 220th installment of our show will be the last show we record on Sunday evenings. We are moving to Wednesday night recordings starting this week, so if you'd like to listen in LIVE and participate in our LIVE chat, be sure to check us out every Wednesday at 7pm CENTRAL!
This week we share what all we've been up to, a couple of new offerings from Horizon Hobby, and we get a chance to visit with our friend Frank 'Murocflyer' Geisler about a new challenge he's trying to put together. As if the Wings Across America project wasn't already epic enough, the new TransAmerica Tour scheduled for 2014 will be even MORE incredible! You're going to want to tune in to this one, for certain!
In this, our 219th installment of the our show, we change things up quite a bit from our normal routine. Due to technical problems beyond our control, we were forced to start a little later than normal, but we were able to roll with it. LoL We get an update from our good friend Eric Kendall regarding the Wings For Wishes III Montana event that is fast approaching. There are going to be some great prizes to be had by those that attend!
We also get to visit with a long-time friend, Mr. Greg Markley from West Michigan Parkflyers! His visit is timely, in that I also do a short review on the Tuff Cub that WMP is now kitting (what a great little plane!). I have to say that John Vanbaren (aka "aircontrol") did a fantastic job in the design of this plane, and WMP is supplier an awesome kit! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one to any newb starting out fresh in the hobby!
We've got the full gang together again for this 218th installment of our show, and in this one we share what all we've been up to, including some more MultiRotor talk. We are happy that Navionflyer has made it safe and sound to his new North Carolina residence and, hopefully, Tim will get him in with the great bunch of guys that he gets to fly regularly with, We've also got some new products to talk about and some letters to share.
Oh, and let's not forget that Laine is offering up another challenge. LoL Really, Laine??
Again, if you're wondering about the title of this week's show, your mystery will be solved when you listen to this 217th installment. KarlK was unable to make it tonight, as was Navionflyer, but Tim and Laine were able to make it, so you'll get to hear all about what we've been up to. We covered lots of ground this week, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!
What in the world is "Karling" you ask? Well, you'll find out in this 216th installment (and we expect you to use this term as much as possible in your day to day lives LoL). This week, we've got lots of news, links, and we even answer a few letters. We've also got the Coreman with us to share what all he's got going on over at RACores!
We gave away the last of our prizes this week, and our lucky winner was Buckley Stamps (aka Cloudsplitter). Buckley won an RACores Yak55 kit (courtesy of the Coreman) that also included a Thunderbird 9 ESC (courtesy of Castle Creations). Now here's the COOL part: Buck asked that we send the package to Eric's Wing For Wishes Montana event on behalf of him and the rest of the Crash Cast listeners! How awesome is that?! God bless you, Buckley!
And on a final note, if you should have an idea where a valve cover for an OS FS-91 Surpass could be found for cheap, please email KarlK! Yep, he "Karled" the new plane! LoL
In this 215th installment of our show, we get an update of the National Electric Fly-In that was held this last weekend from our buddy Steve "Vintauri" Mills. Steve had a great time and it looks as though the event was a huge success! Special thanks goes out to Vintauri for taking the time to visit with us fresh off the road from this trip.
We also did something a bit different, in that we did a "brainstorming session" on a new project we will be working on, and we are looking for YOU to participate! We are looking for the best, least expensive design, but very aerobatic Quad design that you guys can come up with for an additional "Crash's Scratchbuild Club" project. When we pick the best design I will do a Build-Along Video Series on it, crediting the designer in the video. Remember, it needs to be something that a newbie can build with typical hand tools and we plan to incorporate the typical "Blue Wonder" type motors (2712-12). We'll discuss this project a little more in depth during the next show, but start working on YOUR design NOW!
Our lucky winner this week was BrownEyedFool, taking away a nice new Castle Thunderbird 54 ESC courtesy of our good friends, Castle Creations, the manufacturers of the greatest controllers on the planet!
In this 214th installment of our show, we continue on with our "Summer Of MultiRotors/FPV" theme by visiting with Paul Baxter (aka Witespy), an avid MultiRotor pilot and the owner of ReadyToFlyQuads. Paul loves and promotes this aspect of our hobby and has some of the best deals you'll ever find on parts and accessories for your MultiRotor needs, as well as offering some great ready to fly Quads (hence the name of his business) that are high on quality, but still easy on the wallet. Best of all, when you get one of his Quads, you can rest assured that it will fly right out of the box since he tests every one he sells before boxing it up and shipping it to you! I have been flying one of my older Quads using his FLIP 1.5 board (only $15!!), as well as a complete FLIP FPV system, and I can certainly assure you that these things are NICE!
Also, we continue to exhaust our prize pool by plucking another name out of the hat. This week, Dougbo gets to add another great ESC to his collection, as he won a Thunderbird 36 courtesy of our good friends over at Castle Creations! Congrats, Doug, and thanks for your support!
This 213th installment of our little show has a LOT to offer! We had a little impromptu "Happy Birthday, Kristy" contest in addition to our weekly giveaway (Ryan B won a Castle 10amp BEC, courtesy of our friends over at Castle Creations). We also got a great report from our buddy Steve "Vintauri" Mills on the Sig Fly-In that he was able to attend this weekend, too. And finally, our special guest this week is none other than Geoff Dryer! If you're into BIG electric projects and follow the RCGroups site, then you probably already know about his incredible scratch-built 50% Clipped Wing Cub. This guy does some fine work!
So if you're wondering about the name of this 212th show, then you need to start listening to our LIVE stream on Sunday evenings at 8pm CDST. I will say, though, that MetroGTi is the one that coined this unigue title. LoL
For those of you that have been wanting more Multi-Rotor talk, well, it's starting to happen! Tim and I have been having some great success with the Flight Controller boards that we've gotten from ReadyToFlyQuads, and we are growing our skills fairly quickly learning all of the cool things these systems will provide. Best of all, they are not expensive at all! If you're looking at getting a quad in the air on a budget, you'll certainly want to listen in because I give a nie little recipe for success!
Congrats to our winners this week! We gave away Castle Creations 10amp BEC to BigD61 and a ReadyToFlyQuads Flip 1.5 Flight Controller to PCPhil! A special thanks goes out to the fine sponsors for offering up these great prizes. Hit their links and check them out!
This 211th installment of our show is full of all kinds of fun stuff! The whole gang is in the workshop this Memorial Day weekend, and we get a special update from our roving reporter, Hance Andreason! He comes to us all the way from the great Northwest to give us a little update for the Wings For Wishes Washington event! We also get to talk to Clark, DougBo, and Eric, as well as Leslie who tells us a bit about how the funds they're raising benefit some great kiddos that are dealing with some really hard times. Although that event won't come to a conclusion until Monday, it looks like they are raising some great dough!
Also, we get in a fun interview with Peter Sripol, who you probably know better as "Foam And Tape" from the RCGroups Forums. We had a nice time talking RC with this young man and I'm certain you'll enjoy listening.
We gave away a couple more prizes this week, and the lucky winners were Richard "Webdragon" Cooper (CastleLink) and Doug "DougBo" Bowman (Thunderbird 18). Many thanks go out to Castle Creations for these sweet products!!
We are back in the studio this week for our 210th installment of the show. We have some listener emails, some special events thats are coming up, and we get a chance to visit with our "special" friend, Joel "MetroGTi" Dirnberger! Joel is the author of that cool little plane that Tim and I loved playing with a few weeks ago called the Blu-FO. He's concocted a few different iterations of this design, including a Night-Flyer, a "Low Rider", and even an amphibious version called the H-Blu-O. What makes Joel extra "special" is that he has even coordinated TWO club builds of this design, helping others get on that building bandwagon!
This week's show (#209) was actually recorded by KarlK and Navionflyer while Tim and I were at SEFF. I really hated missing out on this one, as I have been a big fan of the Flitetest guys since meeting them about 2 years ago at SEFF 2011, but nonetheless, the guys did a great job covering all the bases with Chad K, Josh B., and David W.
For this 208th recording of our show, the entire team is all safe and sound back from SEFF in our respective homes. Join us for talk about this year's big SEFF event where we try to share with you all of our fond memories (while they're still fairly fresh on our minds LoL). Great friends and flying made for an awesome week! Please note that we will try really hard not to harp on all things SEFF every single week, but once you attend this event, you'll understand why its so hard to NOT talk about it all the time.
Be sure to check out next week's show that will go up on Sunday May 12th! KarlK and Navionflyer interviewed some special guests while Tim and I were away at SEFF. We've been wanting to get them on the show for ages!
While next week's show will not be streamed LIVE, we will still be getting together with our friends LIVE on talkshoe for an hour, or two, just to shoot the breeze. Please join us every Sunday night, 8pm CDST.
We are sorry that things didn't work out to supply you guys with a show last week, but we were just too busy playing at Hodges Field and getting ready for SEFF 2013 to kick off.
Nonetheless, we were able to get everyone all together to do a quick recording last Saturday evening (just after the big bbq dinner, but before the Night Bowling got underway). I'll warn you, though, this 207th installment of our show has poor sound quality, but it was fun recording it and maybe it will give you a little "feel" for what it's like to attend this great gathering. Also, we picked a WINNER for our Building With Foam Book Contest! The luck recipient was actually at SEFF, but we were unable to locate him to give him his prize. No worries, though. As soon as he gets me his snail mail address, I'll get it in the mail.
Our plan will be to do a better job next week summarizing the things we saw at this year's SEFF and maybe even have a few links for you guys then.
In this 206th installment of our show, we answer some listener emails, especially one very good one from Greg regarding selecting a new radio for his RC adventures. Also, we gave away a couple more prizes, and this week's winners were Korey B. (he gets a PhlatBoyz Micro Surfer Dude kit) and Ian J. (and he gets a NIB Pheonix 480 airplane kit). We have more great prizes to give away, so be listening in to our next couple of shows! Information on how to win is in this episode, and the address to PayPal your entries is THESRT10(AT)gmail.com. Remember, you don't have to be listening to our LIVE show to win!
Also, please note that most of our team will be at SEFF 2013 during the next two weekends, so there will be no LIVE show, but we plan to resume the LIVE gig again on May 5th.
CONTEST ALERT! RCPtero has graciously supplied us with a copy of Keith Sparks' "Building With Foam" book that you can win by simply sending us a picture of what YOU would like to build (real aircraft or your 'napkin drawing') once you've learned the techniques described in this great book. You can email me the info (my email address is in this show), or better yet, post it on our Facebook Fan Page. We'll take all the entrants names, toss them in a hat, and then have RCPtero draw the winner at SEFF 2013.
Deadline to enter is midnight, April 17, 2013. Good Luck!
In this 205th installment of our show, we get a great report from Navionflyer, who got the chance to attend the Toledo Weak Signals RC Expo this weekend. There's some new product news and discussion of some great RC craft that were there. Also, we gave away the eRC J-5 Cub that IFLYOS so generously offered up, and it was one by Todd Mezmarsic (Congrats, Todd!)
We're back again with another installment of our little show, and #204 is a great one! We get a great little update on some more improvements being made at our favorite flying site in Georgia from our friend Tripp. We get to hear all about that top-secret plane that Laine has been working on, and Laine and Tim give away two cool prizes to a couple of lucky entrants: Robert King won a Precision Aerobatics Thrust 40 motor, and Tom (Damage) Minnick will be the recipient of one of Laine's custom-built Li'l Cudas (Rx/battery ready!). There's still time to get in on next week's prize - an eRC J-5 Cub from Tim (paypal to THESRT10(AT)gmail.com). It's looking quite feasable that there will be a WFAIWTM in the Team Cobra camp at SEFF 2013!
We had a LOT of fun in this 203rd installment of our little show. Oh, and we have a special guest on this one - Mike Connor (aka BlenderBoy) from the RC Hangar Time podcast! We'll get a little insight on Mike's RC background as well as some great info on his latest passion, the Goblin 500 and 700 helicopters! Also, Laine pops on to host a special contest for our LIVE listeners where he gives away a brand spankin' new Castle Thunderbird 18 Speed Controller (won by our friend Vintauri). Be sure to listen in on this show if you didn't make the LIVE broadcast, as he and Tim will be giving away some more cool prizes in the next few weeks! Instructions are given on how to enter, and you need not be present to win (remember the email address - THESRT10(AT)gmail.com).
As for the weird name of this week's segment, I think you'll figure out what it means while listening.
The title of this 202nd show was thought up ingeniously by one of the members of our LIVE listening audience (Joel aka MetroGTi), and it really sums up our main topic this week! In this show, we'll try to provide you with some inspiration for some inexpensive ways to re-purpose some of that old Micro Gear that you may have laying around from a defunct or no longer interesting Ember, Vapor, or some other Micro plane you may have in the corner of your workshop. Oh, and we tried to give away one of Laine's "Lil Cuda" kits, but no one could guess this week's "Phrase That Pays", so we will try again on next week's LIVE SHOW.
