Last weekend marked the 9th annual HHAEFI event at Mac Hodges compund in Andersonville, Georgia. Even though I was unable to attend this event we still have some coverage since Chris (Cathead), along with the rest of 'Arcola RC', WAS able to attend. Join us as we talk about this event and be sure to check out the Slideshow pics from this week! Oh, and let's not forget about the videos that captured the essence of this great event - nobody captures an event like Bildo! Oh, and please try to ignore the "chicken wing" references (a BAD inside joke LoL).
In this week's installment of our little show, we dip into the mail bag and answer a few questions regarding CNC machining. If you're not into the CNC thing, no worries - this is not really an entire show on the subject. We also discuss some events, FAA news items, and a few new products.
In our 280th installment of the show we enjoy discussing a listener's comments made about a facet of our hobby that seems to be on the decline - Nitro-powered models. Join us as we reminisce about our golden days of using 'liquid fuel', as well as some of the pros and cons of Internal Combustion versus the Electric power systems most of us are using today.
This week the crew just gets together to visit and talk about what all is going on in our lives. We've got some videos to share, news on some new items, and a great fly-in coming up again at Hodges Field.
This week's show (#278, if you're keeping score) covers a lot of ground, and the silliness is certainly in full swing! In the NEWS department, Horizon has some new offerings and I got my OX CNC up and running (Video below). We conclude our CNC discussion this week with possible solutions for CAD design applications, as well as CAM programs. We wrap things up with Tim (IFLYOS) King discussing his adventures at the Heli Extravaganza he attended last weekend.
In this 277th installment of our show, we continue our discussion on CNC machines for YOUR workshop. This week we delve in to the topic of stepper motors, stepper motor controllers, and the software needed to make these things work. Just like last week, we have quite a few links to the sites we discussed.
TheCrashCast crew are certainly no strangers to CNC technology, but it seems like it's been ages since we've discussed these magical machines on the show. As luck would have it, my tooling needs have changed a bit recently, so I have embarked on the build of a new machine - the OX!
In this 276th installment of our show, we talk about some of the ways one might get into CNC routing and some of the machine plans and kits that are available, whether you want to scratch-build one yourself, or just purchase a kit someone has already designed and tested.
Okay, so if you think that this show went off the rails with off-topic discussion, you should've been there for the post-show (things REALLY took a turn for the worst!). Come on, though. I suspect you guys don't really listen to us each and every week for our cutting edge news on the hobby, right? LoL
After a 24 hour delay due to technical difficulties (that never realyl cleared up), IFLYOS, Cathead, and I got together to sum up the adventure last week that was RCEFF. In spite of a brief episode of some rather rocky weather, a good time was had by all involved!
This week's show is a short one, but hopefully we have our internet problems solved by next week because we have loads more to talk about!!
My goodness! You take a week off "work" and come back to a total mess! LoL Well, that's what it seemed like, anyway. We recorded a great 273rd show, but when I went to edit it, we picked up some sort of weird audio anomaly. Fear not, though, as I was able to pull up a slightly lower quality back up file and get this week's epsiode uploaded.
This week we have a total of 7 folks in the workshop. Six of us you've heard from before, but our 7th is Ben Warren (BorneoBen), and active gent over at the RCTodayShow! Ben shares with us some cool little multi-rotor frames that he's developed and needs our help naming his new business enterprise, as well as the frames he's designed (links below).
In the workshop for this 272 recording you'll find me, IFLYOS, Navionflyer, LMopar69, and Cathead! We had a lot of fun with this one and we are all over the board again with our discussion. We started off with some talk about AS3X, and then everything kind of went South after that. LoL
Please note that we are taking a vaction next week, but will be back again with our 273rd show LIVE on Wednesday, August 20th!
After about 2200 miles total (round trip), I'm back in the workshop to talk all about the fantastic time at this year's WATTS Over Owatonna event. Unfortunately, Laine and I were the only hosts that were able to attend this fly-in, but we certainly tried to have enough fun for our whle crew! LoL I'm going to tell you here and now that I really pour on the love for the SMMAC crew, their field, and their handling of this event, but trust me when I say that it's all very well deserved. You'll want to add this one to your calendar next year!!
In this week's show we are missing KarlK and IFLYOS, but we pick up some dude named "Cathead" to help fill in. We talk about our usual bunch of stuff - both on- and off-topic, including news items, and such. We also get into a little discussion on finding and setting the Center Of Gravity ('CG') on kits, ARFs, and Scratch-built designs. Also, we have an opportunity to visit with Vintauri about WATTS Over Owatonna, which is coming up very soon!
This week we continue with the fight to persuade all of you to unite and let the FAA know that we disapprove their new "Interpretation" of the Special Rule For Model Aviation. As well, we have a special guest on the show that brings a unique perspective to this issue, in that he is a full-scale pilot AND one of the early adopters of the FPV game.
We here at TheCrashCast urge all of you, whether you're FPV'ers or not, to help us in this fight by signing the online petition and voicing a pro-AMA stance against the FAA's ruling. My concern is that if they can take FPV away from us (FPV in the SAFE way that AMA has layed out), then how long will it be before they take away ALL of our model aviation rights?
Okay, so our Academy Of Model Aeronautics has been working diligently with the FAA to ensure that our flying hobby is protected. The AMA has set up Safety Guidelines for us to follow, both with regular RC Flight and FPV Flight, and with those guidelines in place, there have been no reported issues. This proves that model aviation, under the self policing practices of our membership, and through the guidance of the AMA, is a safe activity.
That is, until yesterday. The FAA has decided to 're-interpret' what consitutes the Special Rule For Model Aircraft, a rule that was originally written in to pretty much allow us to continue to govern ourselves by the guidelines established by the AMA, thus exempting our hobby from FAA scrutinization. As it stands now, the FAA has pretty much put the screws to us, banning FPV!
This is the main focus of this show. Compared to everyone in the United States, those of us that are affected by this fiasco are an extreme minority. Therefore, now is the time to back the AMA and look to their guidance as to how we should collectively respond. If you are NOT an AMA member, or have let that membership lapse, NOW IS THE TIME TO JOIN!! The only chance we have to defeat this thing is to do it by being a unified, uniform, collective group. While we're are waiting for AMA's plan to be revealed, I urge ALL OF YOU to become aware of your State's Senators and Representatives and be prepared to let them all know how you feel about our hobby being taken away from us, those that have followed the rules, by those few bad examples promoted by even worse media!
In this 265th installment of our show we talk about all kinds of stuff, and some of it is even RC-related! Thanks go out to our buddy Shadow102 for popping on to share his experiences at the 4th Annual Pecan Patch FPV Meet!
It would probably be easier to write here about what we DIDN'T talk about in this show, rather than what we did talk about. LoL We cover all kinds of fun stuff in this 264th show. Good luck with keeping up with this one!
In this 263rd installment, we get to hear all about Karl's trip to the Wings For Wishes Washington event last weekend, and how one person can can destroy a young man's dreams by simply adding an extra cell to his battery. LoL
