I wasn't able to make it up this past weekend. I heard the conditions were great in the morning (20+mph winds) and there was good sized group. Unfortunately, everyone was rained out by noon.
On another note, FSS #6 in Cocoa, was the same weekend. Outr guys did well. Check out the pics and results here:

This weekend teased us a little. A 10 mph wind in the NE bowl, which gave us decent sloping. It just kept shifting from the NE to the East, which gave us fits at times. Overall though a good day, with a decent crowd and no crashes.
PS I added some shots Amos took. Thanks Amos!...Continue Reading

Sorry for the lack of “blogage”. I just returned from vacation and missed a couple of weekends. This last Saturday was a slight improvement. We had a light wind on the SE bowl. More thermal lift then wind lift. It was strong enough at times, for several of the guys to speck out over the hill. All in all, pretty decent, for what is still summer “doldrum” weather. I’m hoping for better conditions this upcoming weekend with two cold fronts supposed to arrive later this week.
PS Our “boyz” went to FSS #5 in San Felasco the weekend before last and did well, here’s a link to that thread: Reading

Some improvement this weekend. The wind changed to NE and the NE bowl was actually “working”. The wind wasn’t fantastic, but at times we had a steady 10mph straight into the bowl. Flying was pretty good, much better than what we had in the past month. We had some slope machines up, Jart, Gulp, and Shrikes. Only a minor mid-air and one crash to mar a relaxing Saturday.

This weekend was again “meh”. Wind was fairly light. Five of us were on the winch on the Westside. Thermals were great in the morning, not so great in the afternoon. Four other members were on the East side working the slope with intermittent thermals. They were strong enough to keep Larry L’s Gulp up. Both groups ended up at the East slope by 12:30. We played on the light slope winds till closing (2pm) and then 3 of us headed out for a lunch.
Praying for fall winds

I couldn't make it up this weekend. Luckily our fearless Amos made it up and took some shots and sent me a report. Here's Amos's unabridged report:

"Mike, today was a complete shutout. I got there about 9:45 there was no wind at all. I stopped off at the NE bowl then drove over to the East side from there I went to the SE bowl and found Bill. We talked for awhile and decided to go back to the East slope. Amadeao, and Hugo were there. Two more guys showed up Buck and Jim. I took a few shots, nothing exciting. I did get some nice reflection shots though, the water was like a mirror. I left just before noon to watch the Hurricanes and Florida State game. At least I got a little excitement today. :-) Hope your day was better.
See you next week.
Take care and be safe,

Also several of the "boys" headed up to Ocala for our sponsored FSS #4 contest this weekend. They had a great time and actually placed ......who hoo! Reading

Just when I thought we’d seen our worst sloping days for the summer, along came this Saturday. I don’t believe I saw any wind. Maybe a passing thermal generated wind, but no steady breeze whatsoever. I know a few diehards went to the SE bowl, per the wind predictions. I myself went straight to the Westside and the winch. Since I didn’t bring a “winchable” plane I spent most of my time running the retriever and taking photos. Finally, our misery was ended by a passing thunderstorm and we all headed down early to the restaurant.

PS Amos contributed to the photos this week.....thanks Amos!...Continue Reading

Seems like the weekends have been coming in “twos”. This Saturday was a repeat of last weekend. Easterly wind with a slight switch to ESE. There was a small crowd. Only 7 of us on the East side, with a couple more guys hanging in the SE bowl. Nothing exciting happened. No crashes. No mid-airs. Just some fun flying and a small happy group.

PS Larry L sent photos over and I added them to the blog. Thanks again Larry....Continue Reading

Breaking our summer trend, we received some strong winds on Saturday. Winds were 15+ mph out of the E/ESE. Suprisingly not as much "lift" as you would expect. The wind shifted from E to SE several times. It was enough to send some of the guys over to the SE bowl over the course of the day.

PS Larry L sent over some camera phone pics from Saturday, thanks Larry....Continue Reading

Two words for this weekend…”just OK”. We had some rain clouds on the horizon, but they didn’t seem to bother us. We had a little wind, some decent thermals and we flew the SE bowl. It was just an “OK” day. Sorry for the lack of pics. I actually flew my combat wing and Falco more that I took pictures. I must be ill.

What a difference a week and the same forecast makes. Last week in the SE bowl, there was no wind, no lift and we were rained out early. This week, the SE bowl had a good 10-12mph coming straight in, no rain and plenty of lift. Of course no one complained! We had plenty of good flying with lots of combat . Now if only next weekend we’d be so lucky.

PS Amos sent me a few shots he took. I noted them as AC photos. Thanks for the contribution Amos!...Continue Reading

We had 15-20mph winds straight in on the East side. In a word….Great! Everyone had been looking at the weather report, because we had 20 members up top before noon. Suprisingly, with the amount of RC air traffic (10-12 airplanes in the air), there were only 2 midairs and virtually no damage. Very much a successful day with everyone logging lots of flight times.

Saturday was the typical light wind, hot, muggy day of summer. We had a light wind hitting the SE bowl and some thermals rolling through, so there was some very light slope lift available. Most of the club members had already figured this out, so the end result was only 9 of us showed up (light turnout).

Mike, waiting for more wind....Continue Reading

This weekend brought some unexpected winds. We had a direct East wind of about 10-12mph. Any other time, and this would have just been a "meh" Saturday. But a decent wind coming straight in brought a decent crowd up top.
Actually, considering the wind was only 10mph it was fantastic day.

Our first weekend back from The Northwest. Almost didn't want to go to the hill. I was used to awesome scenery, alpine flying, cool air, wineries, and micro breweries. This Saturday on the hill was brutally warm and humid. There actually was not a drop of wind. Fortunately I arrived late and didn't even break a plane out. I got a few pics of winching and an electric and called it a day.
