Last week we had predictions of light wind and it was rocking. This week we had strong winds predicted and we had "meh" winds. Actually we had about 10-12mph winds, so we shouldn't complain. But we were greedy and hoped for stronger stuff (weather channel was predicting 20+mph).
Actually we got some great flying in starting on the NE bowl and switching around to the East face over Powerline Rd at days end. The tally at the end of the afternoon was 12 smiles and 3 crashed planes (don't ask).

Mike

PS Amos shot all the pictures this week, which allowed me to fly. Thank you Amos!
PS Also, this coming weekend is the Buzzard's Tangerine TD contest in Ocala. If you are in the area, swing in.

Saturday was a surprise. Wind was predicted at 5-7mph and moving from NW to NE. Instead we had a pretty steady 10mph wind out of the NE. I actually put in quite a bit of flight time on my Falco (suprising….I know) and spent very little time on my camera. Thankfully, Amos shot most of the pictures this week (thank you Amos!).
Also Larry L just sent me some links to some short videos he shot this weekend. Thanks Larry!

Another weekend of wind! Yeah! We had an unusual 20-30mph wind out of the West. Haven't had any true sloping out of the West in ages. James had his newly repaired Schwing up and flying. Fun was had by one and all.

PS, I see that one of our members, Jamie Mercado made the cover of RC Soaring Digest this month: http://www.rcsoaringdigest.com

It’s been months since we had a strong blow. Saturday did not disappoint. One of our new members clocked 31 mph on his wind meter. The wind was out of the NE and was almost dead on to the NE Bowl. Lift out front was great, but if you came in close, it was very choppy and down right dangerous. DJ discovered this while maidening his new Schwing (don’t ask).

Sorry no blog in a long time. Between a couple weekends of rain and our Ocala FSS contest I haven't been up on the "hill" untill this weekend.
In the meantime we had a great contest in Ocala, see RCgroups thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1686453
Also some of our guys (Jamie and Mike) hit the World Soaring Masters, see thread:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1556334&page=5

In the meantime, this weekend was not fanatastic. As Paul M said, "I would rate Saturday a 3 out of 10". We had about 7mph breeze out of the East. Which put about 1/2 dozen guys on the East slope.
I spent my time with the other 1/2 dozen fliers on the winch. All the way over on the West side. We had a lot of problems with the retriever and the thermals were very small. Not good. No crashes though, and only a small mid-air accident. So I guess it wasn't a bad Saturday.
Next weekend, I won't be up (work has called me in), so I hope someone gets some pictures and I hope some better flying conditions.

With Isaac bearing down on us, we made a beeline for the hill on Saturday. Unfortunately, because of rain squals, only a handfull of flyers turned out. We did reap the joy of 15-20mph winds, but the off and on drizzle finally drove us away. We were actually fortunate. As we left, we found ourselves getting bogged down in deep mud. A little bit longer and we would have been getting towed off the top.

Mike
PS Don't forget we have FSS #5 in Ocala this weekend. Should be good weather...see you there:

Also, Andrew just posted a video from the flying...thanks Andrew!

Another hot Saturday. We had a slight breeze out of the South, gave us a little respite. DJ and I tried the South/SE Bowl, but unless you had electric (DJ did), it was fruitless. Most of the guys winched on the Westside. With the Ocala FSS contest around the corner, it was probably a good idea to practice, and we got plenty of that.

Another brutual summer day. Zilch wind, high humidity, and 93F temps made for one killer Saturday. Only a handful of flyers turned up. Most were on the winch, including yours truly. A few tried the slopes on the North side and then the South with "floaters" and DHLG's.

Hoping for wind next Saturday!

Mike W

PS Don't forget we are hosting FSS #5, Unlimited Thermal Duration contest, on Sept 1 and 2 in Morriston, FL (Ocala)!

Sorry no report from last week. Light air and then rain made for a short day.
Unfortunately this Saturday was not any better. Virtually no wind and relentless sun made for some tough flying. A few brave slopers tried flying on the North slope and switched to the the east with the changing winds. Six of us, the largest group, spent the whole time on the winch, on the West side.

Saturday was a great day, we had good wind, 15-20mph. No rain, plenty of sunshine (actually a bit to much) and I don't believe any crashes. We started out on the East side and eventually shifted to the SE bowl as the day ended.

Mike

And again, thanks Amos for the extra photos and work. I do appreciate when someone else is contibuting to the blog....Continue Reading

We had a great wind out of the SE, 10-15mph. So the SE bowl was pumping. The crowd was medium sized. Good fun all around. Paul was trimming out his new NCFM Bluto. Jose was ripping with his new Discus. I had some great speed runs with my Spider 2M. Bill was trying out his Xeno. Overall a good day.

Mike

Amos helped with lots of the pics, thanks again Amos!...Continue Reading

Well you didn't miss anything this weekend. The wind was almost calm, temperatures reached the 90's and was a bit dusty. The name of the game was winching. Paul and entourage setup the winch on the West side and a few guys tried handlaunch on the North side. Because of the weather, we left at 1:30 for lunch at the Peachtree.
Also, Andrew made a short aerotow video here:

Enjoy....Mike

Because it was a rainy weekend, we had a light turnout.. Only six of us showed. The rain left the hill pretty saturated. I had to stop about 300ft from the slope and walk in because of the mud and crud. On the positive side there was good lift, with a decent East wind, so we could let our slopers rip!
As a side note, the Sun-Sentinel newspaper article concerning us and our flying site was published this last Sunday. Here's a link to a picture that didn't make the article, but onto their web gallery: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sfl-pomp...,3652735.photo

Saturday was more than we expected. We expected rain and a light wind. Instead it was a clear 15mph wind into the NE bowl. We also had visitors. The site administrator had a Sun-Sentinel photographer up for a future publication on our flying site.

Our first Saturday back from Oregon. Was sorta of a let down after having 40mph winds, alpine lift, and 12,000 ft peaks. But such is life.
We had a light East wind on the hill, with some great thermals rolling through. So we can't complain too much. Although Florida is quite a bit hotter than I remember before our trip.

Mike

PS I understand the West Coast (Florida) guys are out in Mosier/Hood River this week. Hope you guys are having a good time....Continue Reading
