1 Attachment(s) 3DHS 70" Slick Maiden
Discussion / Posted by moxjett / Jul 20, 2012 @ 08:37 AM / 1,883 Views / 1 Comments / Reply
The maiden of my 3DHS 70" Slick went great. The only issue is the Hacker motor was squealing at low throttle. I need to change the settings on the Castle ICE 100 and that should get rid of the squeal. The Hacker A60-6XS is a very strong motor on 6S and pulls the Slick around with incredible authority.

It was a beautiful day and the sun was going down. Just enough time to get a quick launch in of my son's first rocket, an Estes Maxi Alpha III rocket firing a D motor.

Got a GoPro Hero for a good price so this is my first attempt at using it as a head cam. Didn't realize the memory card was almost full so it cuts out in the middle of the flight.

I bought this E-flite Deuces Wild 25e2 ARF on ebay about a year ago. It was sold by Hobb-e-mart, an online store that sells damaged and returned items from Horizon Hobby.

Had a great time this weekend float flying in Paola, Ks hosted by RC Barnstormers of Hillsdale, KS. I only lost one plane (E-Flite Ultra Stick 25e) due to a bad Rx, otherwise it was a perfect day of float flying. Thanks to Nathan and Carl for being my spotters. Will definitely be back next year.

Planes I took:

Plane - Float

Getting ready for a float fly and thought the 3DHS 51" Slick would look awesome with floats. This is the second 3DHS plane I've mounted on floats. The 47" SHP is my goto float plane right now. If the Slick performs as well as I think it will, I'll have two great float planes.

Bought this 300SR a long time ago as a replacement for whenever my SHP went to Balsa Heaven. Well that day never came and my SHP is still going strong after 100+ flights and is now my goto float plane now. I missed flying my SHP so I decided it was time to put the 300SR in the rotation. Just have to wait for non-Gale force wind day to maiden her.

Cool Video.

Just goes to show that with enough power, the right CG, and enough skill one can 3D almost anything...

One of the local clubs put on a float fly this past Saturday. Everyone must have saw the forecast of ran, because the 4 people that put it on and myself, are the only people who showed up to fly. I think we had more spectators then flyers. Oh well, it’s a nice place to fly and I didn’t pretty much had the whole sky and dock to myself.

I took my trusty Electrifly Seawind EP. It’s always a blast to fly and fun to try different things with. This was the maiden flight of my new E-Flite 25e Pulse on floats. It’s a good sport plane to fly off the water. I only flew it a few times, because this was also the maiden flight of my 3DHS Extra SHP 47” on floats.

I had some really light 10 oz foam floats lying around, so I attached them to some E-Flite Stick 25e landing gear and mounted it the SHP. I put three coats of mini-wax to seal the foam and then three coats of Krylon H2O water based spray paint. They turned out really light at only 14 ozs. The SHP was a blast to fly off water. The take off runs were really short and the floats affected the flight a little, but I was able to do all the maneuvers I know with no problems. I flew the SHP the most, putting about 12 flights on it.

The forecasted rain finally came around 1 PM, so I packed everything up and headed home. I love to go float flying.

I was watching Ben of 3DHS having so much fun flying his 3DHS 40" Edge at the 2nd annual Grapevine FLI, that I knew I had to have one. I crashed my E-Flite profile CAP a few months ago that I flew during the week at lunch, so I thought this would make a great replacement. Lucky for me a fellow RCG member (fatcat220) had a used one for sale at the FLI that just needed an Rx and battery. Man, I'm glad I bought the Edge. This is one of the best flying small airplanes I've flown that wasn't a foamie or a profile. I've flown the Edge about ten times now, both in windy conditions and calm conditions, and this little plan is a blast windy or not. The best part is that it fits perfectly in the trunk of my car, so at lunch time I, pop a battery in and I'm flying. SCHWEEET!

I finally got to maiden my 3DHS 51" Slick this evening, and all I can say is WOW! What a fun plane to fly! This plane is way more capable of doing things then I'm able to make her do. I have a lot of practice to do to make this plane fly like she deserves to be flown. It'll be fun practice though.
