I've been playing with the Phantom since Oct 2013 - but I never tried RTH because of all these 'flyaway' issues most people get..

A couple of weekends ago, I was playing around, the sky was clear so I decided to activate fail safe to check...
Sure enough, it came back and landed! I managed to run back and get my camcorder on its final descent..
It was pretty cool! It was windy and I thought it would tip but it tried to control itself and even reacted when it almost tipped over. I was definitely impressed... but I still wouldn't do it often!

Rejoined my local club and even tho I have been sick most of the week, I braved it and flew all weekend.
Got sunburnt in the process but it was an awesome weekend! Unfortunately my friend crashed his 700 on his first flight on Sunday but he had his 450 as backup.
This video was on my last battery (3rd) on Sunday.

Not much to update... just wanted to let everyone know I'm missing flying my baby!
Stupid UK weather... and I guess the DJI Phantom's so easy to just fly from the garden that it tends to get flown more often.
Plus the fact, I guess, that my trex' batteries take hours to charge, maybe another reason why I have not flown my heli!

Not much.. just a quick update:
Summer 2013, I bought a Trex 700e DFC HV - pretty cool toy! It's my new baby!

Sept 2013, I got married

Oct 2013, wife got me a DJI Phantom as an early xmas present!
That's what I've been playing at the mo since it's too much hassle taking the big heli to a field for a fly whereas I can just fly the Phantom from my garden!
Gets a bit boring tho. Definitely just for photo/video taking! Not much fun flying it around on its own!

Need a gimbal and fatshark. those will be for xmas/ or early 2014

Well, we went to the Large Model Airshow at Elvington Airfield today and I came back with......

a brand new Spektrum DX8!!!!

I have had my eye on this transmitter since I bought my 450 pro but a lot of people have been talking scary things about this hence the delay.
Andy K has been helpful in restoring faith back and some threads on here have been encouraging so, it was on sale at the show today and I just could not say no.
I only have a 6100e receiver tho.. so not sure if that is enough for my 450pro or i should buy a new one.
firmware on mine is 2.01 so i think I will need to upgrade. Just looking now.

Well, I figured I'd put something new on here... I have stopped flying my HZSupercub LP for the time being as I'm trying to get back into helicopters again. I purchased a Trex 450 PRO about a month ago and have been flying that almost everyday.
I purchased some more batteries for it as the 2 batteries I have are 5 years old and just not good anymore.
When I tried the new batteries (Turnigy 2200 20c and 40c), wow! I could feel the difference! The heli had lots of power, it scared me a bit.
I think my photos are on Flickr and I will link here in a bit.

my LAMA has been on display since i had a minor crash (outside of the house fighting the wind) and cracked some blades..and bent the shaft.
finally decided to order some spare parts last week. parts came beginning of this week.
when i replaced the blades, there was major wobble on the heli. i knew it must have been the blades not balanced. so i took them off and balanced the top blades first. sure enough, one blade needed A LOT of tape to get it to balance.
last night, i have decided to rebalance the blade properly. took me about an hour. now, she flies wonderfully and altho there's still a slight vibration, she looks good in the air!
i still want to fully balance everything on her tho..but with the imminent arrival of my new Trex XL, this might get pushed back.
