Third flight.

Progress:
Cosmetics needed: Cowling valve blisters addition and paint. Wheel pant paint and fuse stripes. Srtut paint.
First flight was on Sunday May 20. No issues and very happy with the results... balance is at 23% and dead-on. Flew about 7 1/2 minutes on 4000 6S cell. Stalls were straight and it slows nicely for landing.
Final weight is 8 1/2 lbs - about one pound over my target.

Progress:
Airframe less motor and battery - 5 lbs 4 oz

Scratchbuild of the clipped wing version. Right at 1/4 scale with a 70 inch wingspan. Airframe and wing using fanfold foam, ply and balsa.
Weight of airframe/wing only - 2 1/2 lbs at this point.
Fuse will be covered with ultracote and wing will be glassed with .75 oz cloth.
Power - Monster 60 and probably a 5 cell battery set-up. Need a little speed as it is a racing version.
Cowling is fiberglass. Struts will be next on the list.

Progress on the Mustang.
Getting close to the maiden. A few things left to set-up and adjust.
5 lbs rtf...missed my target by 8 oz.
Going for the racing look with a small canopy and straight wing tips. Scale details will be added after the first flight.

Initial flight was on Saturday evening. Best first flight I've ever had! No issues. Flies great on 3 cells and a bit faster on the 4 cell set-up.
Added paint and a few airframe panels. Airbrushing is next. The canopy is too big for my vacuum box and is giving me problems with the pull. For now the mold is good enough to fly with....

Airframe structure complete. Now all of the details ...
52 oz and counting.
A few more details...... Making good progress and close to the final covering. The canopy and nacelles are shaped for the vacuum pull. Although, the canopy is too large for my vacuum box...another challenge! Test runs with both motors show about 560 watts on a 3 cell set up with 10/6 props and 750 watts with 4 cell 8/6 props. Sounds nice on the 4 cell. Weight is 2 lbs 10 ounces as pictured.
Fanfold foam and balsa/ply build
66" wingspan
58" fuse
Power will be with two 400 watt 1100kv motors
Shooting for 4 1/2 lb weight
Covering with a light iron-on film then will pick a paint scheme. I like the German version target tow (green with fluorescent orange).

More progress. Canopy from Hangar 9 Spitfire fits perfectly! Balance complete and AUW is 10.5 lbs. I was shooting for 9/9.5 but had to add about 11 ounces of nose weight to make cg.
