QX-9

Okay, so other than putting some firmware on the OSD (took a little while to realize that's why my picture was funny), this puppy is ready to go. This thing is gonna be a rocket once I switch to 4s.

This is for the few that have shown interest in seeing my new haul.

And yes, I realized after I watched it that I called the NorthStar a "Vortex".

And the one I couldn't remember was the L-19

Just saw this a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be perfect for lipos as it looks like 2 or 3 should stack nicely in a standard aluminum case. At only $8 for two plus fair shipping, I figured I'd share (I bought 4).
Shipped from within the US.

As you can see, I can stack 2-4 (depending on batt size) of these loaded with batteries on both sides in a standard aluminum case. The one side I pictured even has room for a few more

I actually finished this months ago, but am just now getting around to posting it. I have a couple more finished projects to post as well.

The first thing I did when I jumped back into this hobby a few months ago, was get me one of them fancy chargin stations I see ya'll got out there. My two 109's in a Tx case with a battery just wasn't cutting it anymore.
So, here's my first completed project during my comeback.

1x 25 amp MeanWell power supply. Hard mounted.
1x 35AH Chrome SLA Battery (not pictured)
2x Astro 109s - I can charge up to 16 amps with this pair. Simple as simple gets. Velcro mounted (the real stuff)
1x Duratrax ICE (soon to be replaced with an Onyx 235). Hard mounted.

Main Board. Hard mounted. Includes -
  • AC/DC/OFF switchable
  • Switches for all chargers with room for more
  • 2x Parallel boards - 7 deans outputs each. Velcro mounted.
  • 2x Astro Blinky balancers - one connected to each board. Velcro mounted.
  • 1x Servo 5/6v tester. Velcro mounted. (later addition, I'll add another pic soon)
  • 1x 5/6v switchable output w/retractable servo lead (male and female)
  • 1x 12v banana plug output
  • Digital voltage readout for PS, DC input and 5/6v output
Fused throughout

When I swap out the Ice for the Onyx, I'll also be adding a LifeSource AC/DC charger and another switch on the main board for it. I decided to go LiFe for my Rx batteries in my gassers and this will give me a quick-charge option for in between flights.

So I don't like taking the cover off to charge my HK 1500mah LiFe packs. I came up with this mod to make charging the battery within the transmitter, so no more battery removal.

PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE WITH A SOLDERING IRON. You will be working on sensitive electronics and could possibly damage or destroy your transmitter and/or void any warranty.

PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

That being said, the first thing you need to do is purchase one of these -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320715057097

It say's 9.6 volt in the ad, but I was informed that this is the correct charger for a 3-cell LiFePO4 pack. I tested this unit with a charge on my pack and it successfully charged to 10.9v and then shut off. Success. I was a little concerned that the label on the back said Li-Ion, but I was again assured by the seller that the labeling hasn't been updated. Anyway, the voltages check out, so I'm happy. It charges at a 1a rate, so you're looking at 1.5 hour charge from a maximum discharge. The unit has an led that is green when fully charged or disconnected. And it shows a red led when charging.

All we're doing here is bypassing the internal charger.

The pics have descriptions. If you got past my disclaimer/warning then the pictures should show an easy modification. Feel free to post questions if something isn't clear.

CHECK, RECHECK and then CHECK AGAIN FOR CORRECT POLARITY.
And AT NO TIME CONNECT THE BATTERY DURING THIS PROCESS!!!

Good luck and...Continue Reading

#1. Punkinwhat?
It's PUNK in drublik. An album by NOFX in the exremely early nineties. It's also a play on "drunk in public". Having been in the college bar biz for over 17 years and growing up on punk music, I could relate
It's not PUNKIN!! That's something you call your 4 year old daughter. It's Punk, or Brian

#2. ARE YOU A HOBBY SHOP?
NO! I make carbon fiber landing gear for a living.
www.rcsupergear.com
I just trade a lot. I do use my position in the hobby business to get dealer pricing on a few things, but I don't buy large enough quantity to get that with most companys. I'll always try to help you guys out on a deal whenever possible.

#3. DO YOU FLY??
YES, LIKE A MANIAC!! I've been addicted to this hobby for 16 years now
I've got everything from micro brushless to 35% Scale. Speed, EDF and 3D are my things

#4. DO YOU BUILD??
YES, again, I love to build. I have a good 75+ kits under my belt and consider myself to be an experienced builder.
Nothing beats balsa and fiberglass

BUYERS -

Please don't be intimidated by this. I only put this in because of a very few problem members I've dealt with in my 1000's of transactions here. If you're one of the good guys (as the majority of you are), you can probably just skip it. Thanks

#1. DELIVERY TIMES - I can only ship once or twice a week, so PLEASE DON'T FREAK OUT if you don't see your item in 7 days. If I receive payment right after a trip to the PO, you can most certainly add a few days to the delivery date. Sorry, I have a real business, and that comes first...

#2. SHIPPING METHODS - Unless stated in my posts, I ship small stuff via 1st class and larger stuff via Priority Mail or FedEx. If you have a problem with this, please make this clear in your offer. I will ship anyway you like but I will also pass on the costs to you.

#3. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SELL TO WHOM I CHOOSE. I will usually work on a first come first serve basis, but I reserve that right in special circumstances. I WILL ALWAYS HONOR MY WORD.

#4. I am always willing to entertain offers, but if you ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS or HAGGLE, please don't expect to be the first considered just because you were the first to contact me. As soon as somebody says "I'LL TAKE IT", the item is sold. I certainly don't mind answering questions, but a quick sale is what I'm really looking for.
I absolutely hate haggling, but still feel free to make offers, ya never know. I rarely get my actual asking price, so it does pay off.

#6. FEEDBACK

Okay, so I get a hard time for using a sailplane tray. I don't even own a sailplane

I gotta say, this is the most comfortable flying I've ever done. I retrained myself for 3 finger flying about a year and half ago and haven't regretted it a bit. So much more control and "feel" as to where my sticks are.

Now that I've found the spacebox, I'm getting spoiled. My Tx seems heavy now since I never have to hold it anymore!
