I've been waiting for a long time to make a little Ground Station for my SkyWalker

So I started out with a paperboard box (without parts from HK) that fitted my on/off panel 12 16 20 cm.
I was sponsored a power distribution board from my company. It is from Blue Sea Systems and has six 15A switches with indicator light in them. I modified it to have one of the switches to be a mains switch.
I also had a 12 volt 7.2 amp lead-acid battery I could use for power and makes the GS stabile.
The reciever is a standard 1,2GHz reciever from electronicarc. Output; one Video, one Audio and RSSI minijack
I bought one of the small mini DVR that records on a small SD-card. One input and one output.

Switches are; MAINS, VRx, DVR, FatShark, USB charger and extra 12V output.

I took the GS out for a test and it funcktioned fine, so I decided to make a box out of plywood. Luckily our town's open workshops had decided to by a lasercutter for students, artists and private pepole to come and get their projecta cut at a resonable price. So I designed the GS in Google Sketchup and went to the workshop to get it cut. Wow lasercutting is great!

Further development/extentions;
A charging plug
A 0-5 volt analog voltmeter for RSSI readout
A 0-14 volt analog voltmeter for battery messurement.
A 1-4 video amplifier
Perhaps a 5" monitor

This is my Turnigy 9X transmitter, witch I'm very glad for and this is the changes I've made to it.
  • First mod was the mod for flashing the firmware to ER9x opensource firmware. It opens a lot of posibilities and is easy to do.
  • Got the Trustfire 2500 mA batteries instead of the 8 x AA batteries. Runs for hours now
  • Back light for the the display. A must have. I choose the white one witch gives the clearest display.
  • Made a extra modification to the back light to make it programmable via ER9x firmware.
  • Trainer resistor fix. Made a solution to allow connecting of a additional transmitter or simulator via the jack plug on the rear side.
  • Switched the transmitter to FrSky to get a better receiver with diversity and failsafe (FS).
  • Switched the FrSky 2 dBi antenna to a 4.5 dBi antenna for a little better range.
  • Turned the carrying handle the other way for better storage as it was taking to much room.

Upcoming project

I have a SkyWalker 1900 witch I use for FPV flight. I use Eagle Tree System OSD with GPS and airspeed/altimeter sensors.

I have for a long time wanted to have my pitot tube mounted on the wing instead of right next to my FPV camera. So I finally came up with this solution.

The senson is mounted on the wing with tubing to the pitot tube.
The wires from the sensor is long enough to connect to the altitude sensor (EagleTree System).
A small fearing around the sensor for "protection". I might add some more and paint it black
Mounted on the right wing so the the tubing don't cross.
I used mesh and heat shrink to secure the tubing....Continue Reading

Here is the finished project of the RC Exploere TRI copter v.2.5. David has done an exelent job, especialy on the build description. I have had no problems in the building process. Thanks a lot David.
The worst thing, is the waiting on all the parts from HK. They are always sold out (Thanks to David?) It took me at least tree month to get the all the parts, but it is worth the wait. Props came from a friend in Denmark (Thanks Peder) and I already crashed one prop ;-)
I think there must be a lot of Davids TRI copters out in the world!!!
  • The board is a KK Plus 5.5e with the LCD Display
  • Tx Rx is a Turingy 9X, firmware upgraded to ER9X
  • Camera is a HobbyKing Wingcam. Be sure to set the focus right and it a okay fycam!
  • And battery: HK 3S 2200 Nanotec LiPo, with a LiPo alarm installed on every flight!

I'm going to expand the KK borad with a MEMS module, witch is a extreme stabiliser. Coming in march.
