This English racing plane was way ahead of it's time back in the late 20's. It is powered by a water cooled Rolls Royce V-12 that produces 2350 hp. It's relatitvely small with only a 30' wingspan. In 1931 it set a course record speed of 340 mph. Seventeen days later on September 29, 1931 it became the fastest vehicle on the planet with a record speed of 407.5 mph. Consider that it also had a open cockpit!
