I've decided to start working on a project I've wanted to do for a while. I'll be attempting a RC conversion of the MiG-15 free flight kit intended for Jetex/catapult launch by Aristo Craft/Easy Built Models.

I plan on using the GWS EDF-30 and Turnigy 1015 motor combination along with an AR6400, Thunderbird 6 ESC w/ diode on the BEC, and a 2S 180mAh.

I'd originally shelved this project a couple of years ago because the parts were printed on the wood, which presented alot more work than I was wanting to do at the time.

To begin, I've cut ~14mm radius holes into formers 3-7. Former 2's keel notches actually go into where the intake duct will be. I'll go back and make this hole in former 2 after gluing on former 1 due to structural/dimensional reasons. These holes are based on the 100% fan swept area(FSA) for the EDF-30.

I haven't had much time to build lately, here's what where I'm at now.

I decided to trim down the EDF shroud and ended up taking off 1.83 grams. I also decided to use 4 stringers between F-9 and F-10 that will serve as the EDF mount. There's notches in them for fit of the shroud.

It turned out that my exhaust shroud exit diameter was going to be the same as F-11's outer diameter. And F-10's pattern was printed way to small compared to the plans. It wasn't even proportional to F-11. I also needed to move the top and bottom keels further apart to allow room for the exhaust duct.

So I went ahead and drew up some new F-10 and F-11 patterns. The new F-10 fits properly now and the new F-11 alows some balsa to be inbetween the exhaust shroud and outer surface of the fuselage. Just like on F-2, I'm going to have to trim out the duct diameter on F-11 after removing the fuse from the plans. I'll also be adding a pseudo F-12 layered aft of F-11 for structural integrity and to provide a surface for the final covering to adehere to.
