Wow! It's been two years since my last (and first) post. Where has the time gone?

Much of 2012 was spent on flying model rockets. I was a member of the USA team that went to Liptovsky-Mikulas, Slovakia for the FAI World Championships of Space Modelling. This was a "bucket list" item for me. I hope everyone who loves aviation and aerospace gets a chance to attend a world championship. It is even more meaninful to be on a national team at one of these events! Free Flight, Control Line, R/C or Rocketry; its all good!

For 2013, I started R/C soaring! With the help of experienced modeler Ed LaCriox, I modified a Parkzone Radian and started learning to thermal and spot land. What a great way to fly! Most of the mods were from Paul Naton's blog at http://glidefast.typepad.com/ with the exception of flaps. I chose to skip those as a beginner. In April I entered a local ALES contest and finished 7th out of 10. I think I learned more in that one day of flying than in a half-dozen practices at the local park! Concentration on making times and hitting the landing tape really makes one improve. I hope I can get a different work schedule so I can get into R/C Soaring competition.

Summer saw more rocketry! At the National Association of Rocketry Annual Meet (NARAM) aka the Nats of Model Rocketry here in the US, my team took first place for the competition and won the National Championship (points race) for the year. We also set four new US national...Continue Reading

In June I purchased the Ember 2 from HH. The neat little RTF package was just what I was looking for. I only wish I had read the instructions a little more closely. I didn't realize the TX had dual rates!

Since my landings are getting down to within 2 meters from my intended touchdown spot, I got a little cocky and decided to do more flying in the yard instead of down at the park a few miles away.

This was the result last night!
