Three Position Flaps for the Spektum DX6i and the Parkzone P-47

When I got my Parkzone P-47, I wanted to put 3-position flaps on it, but my DX6i only has a two position switch. Also, after I installed my flaps, with the servo arms at 90 degrees, I found that they didn’t have near enough throw on them to get the 25mm suggested by Parkzone. I was able to solve both of these problems by creative programming of the DX6i. Essentially, I gained use of the entire throw arc of the servo under the “Flaps” menu and then created another flaps position using a “Mix” of flaps with flaps. Since I don’t use dual rates, I assigned the mix to the Elevator D/R switch which is conveniently located right next to the flaps switch. So, here are some instructions if you'ld like to give this a try:

When we get done, your flaps switch will act like a “on/off” switch and your assigned mix switch will determine how much flaps you get – 15mm in one position and 25mm in the other position.

Before I go further, it is important that the flaps are able to move easily and not bind. When you cut the wedge of foam on the P-47 flaps, make sure you get all of it and that the flaps can swing freely down to 30mm or so of travel. Also, as you are making the programming adjustments, be careful that you don’t accidentally program more servo throw than your actual flaps will allow. Note how far your flaps can freely swing and don’t try and push them further with the servo.
