Since a few people check out this page once in awhile thought I'd give you something to read....My hobby interests are pretty much scale boats. Mainly commercial vessels like tugs and towboats and merchant ships. I finally accepted the reality that I have trouble finishing projects as I have 8 scale models in various stages of completion but not one of them is complete! So I'm resolving to finish at least a couple of them this year!
I also fly park size electric planes now and then.
Professionally I'm a tug and towboat captain on the Columbia/Willamette/Snake rivers. I've elected to work inland as I am able to spend much more time at home as opposed to working on ships in the ocean. I operate both conventional boats and z-drive tractor tugs and use both for ship assist and towing barges. The company I work for is pretty diversified in that regard and I feel it really gives us great experience as when I go into work I never know if I'll be on a conventional boat or a tractor boat or what I'll be doing that day....I really love my job! My entire professional career has been in transportation, and I've gone to sea on merchant ships (container ships, tankers and a cruise liner thrown in for fun).
I view scale vessels as an art form and also retaining some of the history of these vessels. I also enjoy and have a small collection of maritime art...Frederick Hoertz and Carl Evers are two of my favorite maritime artists.
