Well i decided to get into FPV seeing its coming on Fall here now, the air is getting cool and before you know it,t he days are well be shorter.

First up i wanted something that would be easy to fly! Carry anywhere between 4200mah or maybe even up too 5000mah, and have a AUW anywhere between 1000g-1500mah.
I considered Buying a Ritewing or something like it, But i like building and testing.
So i decided to build one from Owens cornering Pink Foam.
I got 2 4'x8' sheets for $14 from my local Home depot!

For the FPV i have the 5.8g 200mw FPV Wireless AV Tx & Rx Set
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=15295
I well not be using goggles at first. I have plan to get a LCD monitor and install it in one of those Big Black Rubber maid Action packers.
Could easily make/install it like a Speaker and surround with Black foam, like the inside of a TX case!!
ANd save up for a decent pair of goggles

For the camera i well be wiring a 2.5mm 4 pole jack plug it directly feeding the video through my GoPro!

Thanks for RC Flight Test for this great video.
How To Use a GoPro for FPV (7 min 12 sec)

In trying to find a decent Powerplant that was semi efficient!! I needed something that could swing a 8 or 9 '' Prop.
So i decided to give this one a shot!

If ordering this BL get this. be sure to pick this up as well this BL does not come with any mounting hardware!

Made a little Flick on some of the things you might want to do before flying the StrikerQ. Don't get me wrong!! This is one bad A$$ plane. But most of the time with any 200 dollar foam plane there are some mods/tweaks that may be necessary!!

I love it!!

StrykerQ

Picked up the Stryker Q last week. Finally got a Maiden flight. All i have too say is WOW. She tracks like its on rails. With the the Ailerons Maxed out too 35mm the agility of this Bird is quite impressive!

You can have Speed brakes/Spoilers with your Rudders on the Q.
Heres what i came up with.

DX6i Rudder Airbrake Set Up
Stryker Q

Right rudder connected to the RUDD plug on RX
Left rudder to the AUX1 (or flap) plug.

Mix1
RUDD to FLAP at +100 on both the UP and DN settings (with trim active) so that the left rudder moves the same direction as the right rudder (normal flight).

MIX2
RUDD to FLAP but at -100 on both UP and DN settings so that the left rudder moves opposite to the right rudder and I get both rudders inboard for a left rudder and both rudders outboard for a right rudder (air-brakes). I have not flown this yet, just tested it on my bench. I have MIX1 and MIX2 hooked to different switches and only plan to use one at a time.

Final Setup.

Elev is maxed 125% each way.
Rudd is down too 80% each way.

that was too make the 5mm or so adjustment i needed too even out them. may vary!!

Well after getting the Cub re done i have too do something about the leftover paint that the tape did not take off.
So i went with some vinyl and DS Red Duct tape Lines,As for extra weight ,its nutting .This motor/Prop combo is nuts. Im actually thinking of reducing my Thr throw 25% lol

I decided too do a Mini F-18 build as a test build before making the full size version.I well put a Power system in her. Would make for a decent parkfkyer on calm days. Now i need too decide what motor to use.

Heres a few pics of the dry fit with Stick pins.

TomHe's F-18
Designed by Tomas Hellberg

My new build it is going to be another TomHe's line of well designed Aircraft.
http://rc.tomhe.net/fa-18
I haven't decided if i am going full scale yet. But seeing its only 28.5'' i well Prob stay to scale.
I have 3 sheets of 9mm EPP and alot of DSF. My Plans are too round off the Fuse a bit more on this one. Sort of Like the top of my Euro Fighter.

But i have too watch the weight. doubling up dollar store can get heavy if your not careful. Ask me how i know!!
I am also debating Servo-less Re-tracks for the f18. I thought about doing it with the Euro Fighter after i had it built, but i thought it would be better to add them during a build ,verse's cutting up a built model.

Also with the lower wing load of the F18 i well be doing a KFm airfoil haven't decided which yet.

New EPP Yakk 55

This is what I've got down so far. Spent the last 2 days building...
Im not sure if i want too use those Motor Standoff motor mounts or just make a round one form Ply.. Most of my Flying with well outside. With Wind/light brezzes.

GOOP on the hinges. Did a few test hinges at first form Scrapes. Im very Pleased. On the main fuse Joints i uses White Gorilla Glue..Works Great!! Very light and Super Flexible.

I don't have the Upper Fuse glued yet, waiting for my Order From HK for those Stand Off Motor Mounts.

So far im am very happy with EPP..
.................................................. .................................................. ...............................................

Feb 22
Finished mine this evening...Did a few Hovers in the Bedroom. Very nice..And that EPP sure is Tuff... the Walls are no Match... I used WHite Gorerlla Glue everywhere (except for Hinges(GooP). Light/Flexable)
I'm hooked...;0)
I was going too head to the School Parking lot that is well lit,but its snowing outside now. Cant wait too really fly her outside.

I ended up using HK 3.7g's for the R/E...Right now with the 3s 500Mah(50g) Battery, I'm weighing in about 210g...All my Flying is outside. So the bit of extra weight well be fine.. She still hovers great. Later ill get some lighter batt's.

Im also using .032 Wire with HK Light Quick connects. I surely could shave some weight if i went with CF Push-rods.

But im happy with her.the 1700 BW Kicks A$$
Heres are some more Pictures

3DHS Style Servo arms ,made form Light balsa, then coated with CA to seal/stiffen.

GUTS

Same home made Arms for more throw. the 3.7g's do not have long arms. Stock arm would not even give 30% Throw. even with TX settings Maxed.

HK Light metal Quick Connects.

I was in the market too get a decent TX case too store my Radio. After looking around i seen a few different(Brand Name) styles at around $60-$80. Plus either ordering one online or getting my LHS to get one in for me.
Then i got thinking about "Do i want too Spend that on a TX Case"?

I was at Wal Mart before Xmas seeing what kind of Gifts i could get for my Siblings lol. While walking through the hardware dept ,i seen a nice aluminum style tool box.Hmmmm and it was only $19.99
Then i got the idea ..Hey i can make one myself!! Now lets get some foam! i thought. Headed too the bedding dept..Nice they have foam. I bought a block that was 16''L x 16'W x 5H''ish if i am correct.(Price $11.98) and i also got a piece of around the same dimensions, but the type that has the Bumpy top.(Price $9.99).Thought this tpye would be Prefect for the top of the TX case. These foams are a yellowish/white color, most of the TX cases I've seen have a nice sharp black/Grey foam. Ok so i need Dye, picked up some powered dye and i was set!!!(Price $4.99).

First step was too cut the foam the touch bigger then the dimensions of the Case for a snug fit. Then i got my 2 pales i use for cleaning the Fish tank. One for the water/dye and one for just cold clean water.(Yes i put the Dye in the pale i always Siphon the dirty fish tank water in)
I Cut and Spread out a trash bag.(Im doing this on Lamented flooring in the kitchen while the better half is at work. So better not get Dye all...Continue Reading
