Well itís been some time so I thought I would give you all an update.
After studying a bunch of plans I decided to build a Gene Bond Blu Cub2. It turned out to be an easy build. Finished it in December and had a good friend and RC flyer Fran Mitchell check it out for me. He said I had done a good job of building and getting the balance right. Oh and I did say this was my very first scratch build?
Anyway, Fran invited me to his flying club (HCRC in Hadley, MA http://www.hampshirecountyrc.org/hcrctest/hcrcblue.htm) for a New Years Day fun fly. What a day, clear, calm and cool. A great day to go flying! I brought the Cub with me anyway not being sure if they would let me fly as Iím not a member there yet. I visited with several of the members and they ask me join them in their group photo and to have lunch with them. What a nice bunch!

After some time I got up the nerve to ask to have someone maiden the Cub as I had not flown it yet. Well one of Franís former students Wes (a Boeing engineer) said he would be happy to take her up. Guess what IT FLIES, first time hand launch she needed just a little trim on the rudder and she stayed up for 3 or 4 minutes till Wes thought it was time to bring her down. I thought it was time to start a new hobby!
My 13 year old grandson needed something to do for summer vacation and I thought R-C planes would be the way to go. Joined a couple of forums to get ideas and advice.
Have yet to start building, trying to find the right starter plane. I know the first should be a RTF or ATF but build your own seems like a challenge we can do.
I was gifted an older Futaba T6xas tx and Hitec rx so we have some thing to start with. And we are getting time on the FMS sims.
Nice to meet all of you, hope we can chat at some time.
