MY P-51 TESTBED COMES THRU AGAIN...EXPOSING A FLAW IN THE UPGRADE DESIGN THIS TIME. POOR STRENGTH IN THE MOTOR MOUNT NOT ABLE TO WITHSTAND EVEN SLOW SPEED NOSE-IN CRASHES. THE esc HAS ARRIVED FOR ME TO FINISH THE P-40

with my ESC in the mail, time to get back to the building or should I say modifying!! with the P-51 as sort of the testing frame prototype, I found that i needed to be able to replace the motor, so the latest in an ongoing upgrade is the addition of this motor mount!!

not quite enough power to over come a wind gust.but the great thing about these gravityhobby.com planes is they are cheap, well designed, quick and easy to build also easy to mod and upgrade. my next one a P-40 warhawk.

Gave up on rotarywing figuring the good ones are the expensive ones So with raising a family still and RC budget low I set out to find just the right plane for the guts of that cheap heli to fit in. searched high and low til I remembered about Cox which was very popular in the old days. Found the perfect fit in a P-51 Mustang from Gravityhobby.com.Not mention the right size for the family minded budget! very pleased with the plane and the build, also come to find out they have all the Coxs molds to boot!

20 yrs later didn’t get it out for family #2 ,Then out of storage but after our 3rd adoption now family #3 this is all the further I got and not enough time to commit to it, but still wanting something to fly for the kids… of coarse! I turned to RTF’s and since I was a former helicopter mech I went with a cheap RTF heli and it didn’t go well.

So when I got started in modeling, 20 yrs ago, I found the only flyable Bellanca in honor of my dad. I started out to convert it to a line-control, but only got so far with it before family #one came along and into storage it goes!

My pop died in his private plane after engine failure.at age 18 i made a run of his family business but failed and then joined the Marines. Trained as a sheetmetal mech on helicopters. 4 yrs were up and they offered me nothing so i got out of there and the Marines are still looking for a few good men!!!
Hired on with Sikorsky aircraft as a field tech and traveled the world on their dime.achieved an FAA mech license and then left avation to earn more money else were but keeping it going thru models.

did i mention that my pop was really into the model airplanes even before i was a twinkle in his eye, but in those days it was all line control. i remember a bench full of finished models that were mostly flown at one time or other. never saw him fly them thou. By the time i was a teen he was working a homebuilt with a snowmobile engine! More later with pics.
