I like 'em.

My brother used to raise game cocks and would always describe an extremely strong "whatever" as "Cock Strong". When he used that phrase, I knew whatever it was he was referring to, would hold up!

This landing gear will out-last the fire-wall to fuselage connection, I believe?

Check out the landing gear and how it attaches to the fuselage. If you have a rough landing, the rubber bands will absorb some of that.

"A neat and strong method is to form an 'x' out of cf tubing, the centre point is in the fuse, bound with thread and glued and then supported by ply. The top 'arms' of the x are mounted to the underside of the wings with little ply discs and then small lengths of piano wire are bent to the right shape and glued into the other ends of the tubing to form axles. This is really strong as the UC is supported by three mounting points and provides struts/braces for the wings too.

Twin legs for a flat bottom wing

Heres another one that ive made..Used for my 36" KFm4 Nutball or any plane that is built with a flat bottom.

The triangle of velcro holds it very well - its a b.... to get off

make the UC to the size and weight you require...

I used 2mm ply and a heavy gauge wire on the one in the pictures. it added 3oz and was for a plane that already weighed 25oz ... so the AUW was 28oz

an alternative to the triange shape would be a T shape for the ply, with all the bars 1" wide to take the velcro..
I required a heavy unit so just made a simple triangle shape

Davereap gave me more ideas for landing gear. These designs flipped me out!! I kept thinking of planes to build just to use this stuff!

I thought I would show a couple of my ways to hold those wheels.

The actual wheels are held on to the wire with a bit of silicone fuel tubing each side...and they have stayed on ok so far in use..for thin wires fix the tubes with hot melt glue

Both removable wire UC systems have proved usefull and all work a treat..

System for planes with a lower spline

1...Two wheels at the front type.. the bends are shown below.. the cross body lengths can be made to the width of your fuz..
The V section goes up the outside of the fuz then you use a rod to hold it in place..you can have shorter V lengths but the longer one like mine spreads the loading ..A short one will damage the depron in a heavy landing/crash

The V section that fits over the spline can be made shorter, but then it can more easily cause damage in a heavy landing

By adding some very thin ply and having a long V, stresses are much better spread out..

The trike version has a front leg bending that is bound to the existing two leg version.. then you just mount it round the other way..with the one leg at the front..simple...

I asked around, for some ideas on building landing gear for foam planes and got some great ones!

When I started this blog, it did not occur to me that everything is scrolled backwards. This thing reads from bottom-to-top. So, if it seems a little goofy, it's only because the guy that wrote it is a LOT goofy! Me!

Rusty says:

I use a simple method of bending the wire into a square 'U', but upside down. The size of this square is about half inch wide, maybe one inch tall.
within this square (rectangle, actually) I insert a proper sized piece of thin plywood. I drill holes around the sides of the ply and sew it on with dental floss. Then add epoxy.
Once done I wrap the ply area of the gear wire with a short length of duct tape, maybe four inches long (even a bit shorter). This wrapping is to add thickness to the ply, and can make a clean-up by removing the tape when installing the gear to a new plane.
I then cut a proper sized slot in the profile fuse, and hotglue in the gear. See pic.
