Jim here from Monto RC.

At Monto RC we recently received our shipment of T-Motor 6th Anniversary Combo Packs. It's a quad motor prop combo set selling for $59.90. T-Motor has sold anniversary combos in the past, but none have been so useful as this one. It's not advertised by Tiger as a Phantom upgrade product, but after we read the specs we new it would be a perfect fit for Phantoms and other 350 Quads.

The Combo Includes four Top Quality RC Tiger Motor Navigator Series Motors and 4 Counter Rotating Props.
4pcs MN2213 Kv950
4pcs T9545 self-tightening precision plastic props (2CW+2CCW)

Unlike a standard MN motor, the MN's in the combo include forward and reverse threaded prop adapters.

The MN2213 950Kv is not a product in Tigers regular catalog, but Tigers slightly smaller MN2212 sell for $46.90 per motor. tiger sells similar prop adapters for self locking props for $6-$10 per pair.

The props sold separately sell for $7.99 per pair.

If you bought all this stuff individually it would at least cost:
Motors $46.90 x 4 = $187.60
Prop adapters $6 x 2 pair = $12
Props $7.99 x 2 pair = $15.98
Total = 215.58

We busted out one of the older Phantoms at the Monto Lab and decided the combo would be perfect for breathing some life into this old quad.

These MN Motors come with pre-attached bullet connectors for use with most esc's. For phantom use we simply cut them off and soldered directly to phantoms esc board.

I really like this set. I think the combo is a steal at $59.90.

A friend just sent a link to this youtube video of a really cool Avroto build by the guys at Flite Test.

The video was released a month ago so there may already be RCG links to it, but it is new to me.

Peter at Flite Test is conducting "mythbusters style" testing of fire retardant deployment via drone.

The fire fighting drone he builds is a Y6 powered by Avroto LIFT Series motors 3515 400Kv. Product AVL3515400

He estimated his max thrust to be at least 24lbs. He said his all up weight including a fire extinguisher was about 12 lbs.

I suppose if he really wanted to up payload he could move to the larger Avroto 3520 400Kv with 16" props. With this combo he'd have a theoretical max thrust of 45lbs.

Its a cool video with a fun project and lots of fire. Its always great to see Avroto Motors in interesting projects around the world.

RCTESTFLIGHT / Stratus Productions posted a great vid of 8 Avroto 3520 400Kv being tested for use with large cameras. Avroto LIFT Series Motor # AVL3520400

Testing is done with Cine-X copter flying a Movi M5 with FS700, and then with various dumbbells. In a final test a 20lb dumbbell is flown, making the AUW 32lbs!

The youtube link is below.

[I]Monto RC notes on the video:

32lbs AUW is more than we recommend for this motor. Sure it can do it but it will shorten the motor life.

When Monto tests these motors in Ohio we are at approx 1,000 feet above sea level. At this altitude a T-motor 16" prop usually provides the best combo of thrust and efficiency. Stratus Productions is in Utah with an elevation around 6,000 feet. This higher elevation may be the reason the reviewer had greater success with a 17" prop.

Awesome vid!

Our flight specialist built himself a new work horse copter in the Monto Lab. He uses it for his own business shooting pano's.

The new quad is a 620mm frame with Avroto 3515 400Kv motors. Flight performance is supreme,.

The configuration pictured is a hair over 9 pounds including 8,000mah battery and Nex 5. Flight time for this configuration is 14 minutes with 15" props. This all purpose, all weather setup has power to spare, with excellent stability, and full authority in wind.

When longer flight is required it is setup with 16" props or a 10,000mah battery.

Motor testing is always fun.

Its rewarding to play with prop and motors combos and find just the right setup for a particular copter, or just the right prop for a particular motor.

Comparison tests between different motors and different props sometimes give incredibly surprising results.

We've been running some equal test conditions motor comparisons lately. The testing has been fun. The results were wonderful.

We got in some new Pulso’s a while back. There aren’t a lot of factory specs & results available for them. Initial inspection showed that the flat motors of the U39 series are very well made. A Few bench tests showed them to run very smooth, quiet, cool and efficiently. We decided to build a Pulso test quad with parts lying around the shop.

It was decided that with the parts we had available the quickest build would be to utilize an old unused Mikrokopter Quadro XL frame. Based on this frame size approx. 575mm we chose the most appropriate Pulso U39 to test. Prop clearance only allowed for a 14” prop so we couldn’t utilize the large prop capabilities of the lower Kv U39. We instead chose the higher Kv U39M 450Kv.

U39M 450Kv is a 3906 stator sized motor. Weight 57grams. It can handle 6s with a 14 inch prop. Our bench test with 6s and an APC multirotor prop maxed out at just over 8amps and 1.46Kg of thrust.

Our build specialist scrounged up some spare parts, and whipped together our Pulso test quad in a couple hours. We tested with a 6s 2200mah battery. Something a little bigger might have been more appropriate but 2200 is what we had on hand.
A couple days later he spent some time adjusting the gains and we ended up with a super smooth and stable little quad.

Copter weight 955 grams
Flight weight with battery 1345 grams

Over several days we ran a few test flights with an average flight time of 24 minutes. Battery start voltage 25.2 volts, finish...Continue Reading

Avroto ® Brushless Motors

We put together a list of the Avroto Lift series 3515 & 3520 features.

*Water proof high temperature windings allow for operation in extreme climates and help prevent overheating during extreme use.

*High Quality Oversized ABEC 5 German made bearings for smooth, reliable, long lived operation under harsh conditions.

*Next generation shaft:
-Collar for consistent shaft set depth.
-Internal threading for adjustable security retaining screw.
Note from Jim: The importance of consistent shaft depth cannot be overlooked. This shaft (designed with the help of one of our partner companies) almost eliminates variation between motors. Any variation can then be adjusted away with the adjustable screw until you have a consistent set. We've been trying to find better ways to secure the shaft as well as correct depth variation since 2010. We started with adjustable shaft collars secured by sets screws. Then moved onto different combinations of E-clips, snap rings, various spring washers combined with stricter tolerances and alternate shaft setting methods. We got the Avroto M-series to be pretty consistent, But I think we've perfected it with the LIFT series.

*Double shaft screws in the bell to eliminate slippage.

*Ultra strong high neodymium magnets.

*Incredibly precise hand winding.

*Massive cooling vents make LIFT series some of the coolest running motors in their class.

*Reinforcement coating to protect windings from debris.

*Epoxy coated stator plates to prevent shorts.

*Ultra secure lead wire attachment to prevent shorting caused by damaged solder joints.

*Dynamic balancing with the highest quality blue balancing paste.

*Stators made with ultra-thin Japanese .2mm laminations for maximum efficiency.

***Every LIFT motor hand checked for quality in Ohio USA before being approved for sale.***

Avroto’s proven track record of excellence has made Avroto the trusted choice in commercial use motors.

The new Avroto "LIFT" series multi-rotor motors are now in final stages of production. Expected availability is end of August 2013.

There'll be a 3515 Kv400 and a 3520 Kv400. These two motors are designed for optimal thrust and reliability. These are big smooth running motors for getting a heavy expensive camera in the air to get the shot, and then bring it back down safely.

LIFT series fill the needs of flyers that need the best assurance of reliability for commercial applications.

We've been working on this motor for over a year. We've consulted many of the best custom copter builders in the business to learn what motor features they want most. After multiple prototype revisions we have a design unmatched in the market. To compliment this excellent design we have used the finest materials and paid for the highest quality of assembly and tolerances. Each motor is individually inspected in the United States before final approval and sale.

We believe Avroto LIFT to be the most reliable multicopter motor produced.

One year ago in 2010 we tested the completed Avroto motor prototype.

The Avroto motor originaly used the best pre-made motor casing we could find. We sampled motors, casings, and assembly houses for over six months befor deciding on an assembly house and motor shell. Within this pre-made shell we designed the most smooth running, durable, and efficient multicopter motor that we could offer at a reasonable price.

Our contracted assembly company builds Avroto to our unique specifications following our prescribed assembly methods, and reinforcement criteria. Our proprietary motor formula also relies upon the use of high quality aftermarket internal components to help make every batch of motors consistent with the last.

The Avroto formula is proven. Thousands of these motors have been sold and are now trusted to provide reliable flight for aerial photographers, and hobbyists around the world.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of Avroto we have introduced a custom made motor casing which can only be found on Avroto.

It is of course completely compatable with the old casing. It was designed so that old and new can be mixed and matched. Performance and specs have not changed.

Another great kit from Dynamic Foamy available at Monto RC Hobby. We're in the process of testing some alternate powers system combos to package with this great Micro Stunt Plane series. I chose the 26" ws Yak-54 as my test plane. Construction was a breaze. This air frame was built and painted in well under an hour.

The series is designed to work with a generic 19g 1450kv outrunner with 6050prop.

I'll be testing a couple of different outrunners by Pulso with different prop combinations. More pics and results will be be added as I procede.
