So my friends over at Lonestar dipped another case. What do ya'll think? I took these with my cell phone. Going to get some pics with a real camera here this weekend.

So we tried dipping a second Taranis Case. This one turned out even better... and i just finished putting the front plate on. I have the back plate too, but wasn't sure how to get the antenna off without unsoldering it from the board.

A friend of mine has a hydrographic dipping and duracoating business here in Dallas. www.lonestarhg.com Typically They've been doing guns, animal skulls, wine glasses and car parts etc. After seeing some of you guys paint your transmitters I wanted to do the same thing and wondered how his process would work. I picked up a spare transmitter case for my Taranis from www.alofthobbies.com as I didn't want to take my radio down and asked him to dip it. He was pretty stoked about the possibilities and so we had a couple other things done to see how it worked. Since I wasn't sure how or what I wanted I left it up to him to pick a colors and designs. My favorite color is red and I love camo so he combined the two for me and they turned out really nice. I've already put the OPQ quad together. But The radio case came out a little too pink for me. So I may try to sell this one or get it redone differently.

Let me know what ya'll think.

So like most everyone here i have several hobbies and like to combine them when i can. I love going camping out in Big Bend National park an usually my camera has been well used when i come back. I've seen some pro's do some very cool things with time lapse and camera sliders so i started looking into them. They can be pretty pricey and since i'm just messing around i'd rather spend that money on RC and see if i can build something myself. I had heard about the openrail project from The Crash Cast and was eager to see where it goes. I finally ordered some parts from openbuildspartstore and started my project.

It started out with a single piece of vslot and the wheel kit. Once I had the slider assembly it was time to figure out some legs to hold it up. I was originally going to make a bracket and try to use sliding tubes with thumb screws to hold them. But as that became pretty complicated quickly i was looking for ideas. A friend of mine suggested using The small tripod i had. I went one step further and found some heavy duty gorillapods on ebay for $6 each.

Once that was done it was time to motorize it. I had seen DC motors and controllers over on servocity.com but i didn't want to spend that much for the controller. After a little searching on ebay and amazon i picked up a 3RPM 12v motor and 12v-24v variable speed reversible controller for $20.

I little dremel work on a piece of lexan and i had a motor mount. Voila we have a motorized camera slider

At half speed it takes about 30 minutes to travel the 1000mm length of the slide.

Here are an example:

Just for fun, I tried to get a couple pics at night of my mini quad lit up... I now know i really need a second person, or at least use a slower shutter out in a dark field and fly further away.

Anyways thought i'd share.

I have several multirotors and wanted to create one with the best components I have and use it for FPV. There are a lot of frames out there on the market and I really like several of them however this time I wanted to try and combine a few ideas and make my own. Fortunately another member on here Chris Moon posted that he has a CNC and is willing to cut parts for you. I had asked him to make a roll gimbal a while back and he made a couple for me and done very nice work. So about a month ago I sent him an email and asked him if he thought he could make a spider frame for me. After a few emails back and fourth and some crude drawings from me on what i was looking for he sent me a picture of the design he had on the computer. It looked pretty slick and he cut it out in basically one evening. He's local so one evening last week he called me up and said hey i'm going to bring this over to see what you think of it. By Sunday morning I had it flying. I have to say for revision 1 it turned out pretty well! Couple little tweaks and i think it'll be even better. Also one of my main goals is to get the camera gimbal on the front of this so the go pro gets auto leveled. That will come after we have the frame finalized.

I call it the MoonSpider

Specs:
Spider Quad frame from Chris
ERC 480 Motors
10x4.7 Props
OpenPilot CopterControl Board
HK SS 25amp ESCs

(better RX will be used once it gets FPV equipment installed)

Signguy Tri
My first tricopter, built using the plans from SignGuy summer of 2010. Very easy to fly and easy to setup with the 4 gyros. Did a few FPV flights on it and decided I wanted to try the MultiWii stuff so I sold off the frame and gyros and started down the multiwii path

Rctimer 750kv motors
HK SS 25amp ESCs
11x4.7 props
40” motor to motor

MiniTri
First multiwii board I put together with version 1 of the shields from multiwiircopter.com Works great and was much easier to do than i thought it would be. Built from leftover wood and stuff i had in the garage.

Emax 2822 motors
Turnigy Plush 10a ESCs
Turngy BEC and HK 9G servo
Warthox V1 board (gyro only)
11” motor to motor

Tcopter
The T copter came from wanting a small FPV platform that didn’t have any props in view of the camera. I built it a little heavy and used a Quadrino board so it would have self leveling. Barely got it built and a local wanted to buy it. So never got to try out the FPV

Rctimer 750kv motors
HK SS 25amp ESCs
11x4.7 props
Quadrino basic (gyro and acc only)
18” motor to motor

Xrotor Sport Quad
Wanting to try a quad i build a couple simple wood frames but then BlueskyRC came out with this one and i had to get it. This is my go to quad now as I've got it setup for acrobatics and it’s nicely overpowered! It’ll do flips and loops and still after a six minute flight the batteries are just at 3.8v

Emax 2822 motors
HK SS 18a ESCs
Turngy BEC
Paris V3 Multiwii...Continue Reading

Got the stinger TRI all Done and took it for it's maiden today. Using Multiwii Dev v725 with the quadrino code selected and it flew pretty well on default settings. No wobbles but it did tend to over correct to stick movements. Since i'm going to be using this for FPV i'll need to smooth out the settings then i'll give the level mode a try. Hovered just under half throttle and this is my first model to use the DX8 telemetry. It's pretty slick, just wish they would build it in to a single receiver.

I'm working with a local guy to CNC a camera mount that will use the roll tilt from the FC to keep the GoPro level. Not sure if i'll be able to fly with that camera once that is setup, may have to have a seperate camera that's rigidly mounted once we've got that worked out.

Components used:
RadicalRC Stinger TriCopter Kit
RadicalRC Extra quad expansion plate
10mm Fiber Glass Slowstick booms
Align 500 Landing gear
Motor to center is 32cm
Quadrino Basic Flight controller
Rctimer 2830-14 750KV motors
Monto RC 10x4.5 cw&ccw Props
HK SS 25a ESC
Hitech 82MG servo
Turnigy 5a BEC
AR8000 RX with Sat and TM1000 Telemetry

Well my new quad and Tri are all done except for the ESCs and power distribution.

Hope they get here soon!

EDIT: Yeah 7 ESCs just arrived. Guess i know what i'm going to try to do this weekend.

I finished up the new frame for the TriCopter this weekend. Since it's so windy here recently I only got to hover it in the garage. Something I couldn't do with the 40" motor to motor size, now it's 18" M2M.

These things are addicting. I've got two Quad frames sitting on the workbench. I've not even had a chance to fly this one and i'm already thinking maybe I'll sell it to help fund getting the two quads in the air and then come back to another tri for FPV.

Need to adjust the yaw angle a bit, might look into a counter rotating prop for one of the fronts since it seems like it has to angle over quite a bit. Also looking into the PIDs to make it slightly more aerobatic. Eventually i want to do some flips and loops with it.

But it flies! He's the first real flight just out front.

A flight of the miniwiitri - mostly unedited (4 min 55 sec)

I'm excited... can't wait to see how it flies, but will have to wait for the wind to die down.
