I hijacked the wife's Kodak EasyShare DX4530 and bolted it to the gimbal on my Gaui 330X-S. Took it out the front door and shot it up to 100 feet or so. Sun was setting but still grabbed a decent pic.
Not too bad from the little 5mp Kodak...

I just wrapped up an in-depth review of the Gaui 330X-S Quadflyer.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1273435

Very fun little aircraft to pilot; it's a nice break from airplanes and heli's...although it flies much like a helicopter. I just picked up a camera gimbal (unfortunately after I was done with the review) but I hope to report on its quality and performance soon.

The goal is to take 30+ clips, submitted by various users, and edit them to create a short video showcasing the GoPro in action. Here is my entry

Heres a few pics of the 330X-S with my new Aero Sky camera mount kit. Went together very easily. The mount tilts up and down only. Right now, its swinging free which is great for shooting video. As the 330X-S pitches the mount stays level. The servo will be added soon for photography purposes.
Test flew it earlier. Very stable with all the weight below the COG.
This little guy will make a good addition to my big AP heli, for tight shoots or any time I dont want to fly the big boy.

The camera is the new Contour 1080HD which by the way is a very nice little HD camera that I think competes w/ the GoPro HD well. it doesnt have still cam or video out capabilities, but seems to match the HD video produced by the GoPro HD.

Heres a few pictures of member Andrews421's Stinson in flight. It uses the same power system as the T-28 and flies very well. The flaps allow for some nice steep approaches.

My wife and I went to Wings Over Atlanta at Dobbins AFB this past weekend. I can say with certainty that there is nothing in the world like the sound of two General Electric turbofans in the F18. The sight of any fighter with the afterburners lit is a close second.
Heres some pics from Saturday....Continue Reading

Heres a few pics from our DFC session today. Got some good pics of the F-16, which I really enjoy. Bradley has let me take the sticks many times on it. Like most EDF's, its a break from the slower prop models and a challenge to fly. Whenever I feel like Im getting bored w/ my current lineup, Bradley lets me fly the F-16 for a few circuits... what a rush! The helicopter is the new Blade 120 SR. Great little heli as far as performance goes. Its fast and agile, yet hovers well....Continue Reading

At last, the maiden flight of the Trex 600 is a success. This is an AP (aerial photography) camera helicopter with a vibration isolated remote camera gimbal. The basic Trex 600 has been stretched to accomodate 710mm Radix blades. This involved using a tail boom and tail blades from a Trex 700. The power system has been upgraded to run on two 6S 5000mah packs.
The 2XPT camera gimbal, made by Photoshipone.com, is front mounted and vibration isolated using rc car shocks. The mount rotates and tilts, and is operated with a Futaba 9C by a camera operator. The Camera is a Canon 50D with LiveView enabled. It feeds to a 900MHZ downlink, enabling the camera operator to see what the camera sees, and take pictures by triggering the camera with the seperate transmitter.
A CoPilot II stabilization system will help keep the heli hovering relatively still with the use of thermopile sensors that differentiate between ground and sky, effectively drawing a horizon line and holding the helicopter level.

During the initial flight in the video, ballast is attached to the camera gimbal to simulate the weight of the Canon 50D. With the first flight in the bag, its time to tune it to hold a hover, then turn on the Copilot and get it working. After that, the camera goes on and some test shots will be taken. If all goes well, she will be put in to commission soon.

The Snap&Fly 3-in-1 Modularized RC Airplane review is live. This was a fun review for my first one over here, and the little planes performed very well. They are quick for micro fliers and definitely require your attention if you have the throttle up. For under 100 bucks, this trio is a deal. I think the biplane alone would be a deal for that price. It flies great at any speed.

Sometimes birds are stubborn and don't want to leave their nest. You can throw small objects such as tennis balls, in hopes it will get scared and come down, or you can wait 'till it's napping and sneak up with a 45 foot boom truck...

So I figured if I was going to go through the trouble of hauling out the Easy Up tent and two chairs, then I might as well give a name to our rag-tag group of renegade flyers. The first official DFC meeting took place today. A brief sum up of the meeting notes confirm a bunch of crap talking about flying skills opened the meeting, followed by general blabbing about wives, girlfriends, and how hot it was even under the tent. Casualties for the day were a blown out ducted fan, a nose over on landing, and two broken props due to low level hovering trials.
I had a great time, hope more people will show up as they see how much fun we're having/ See you guys next time. Meeting adjourned! :0)

I picked up the HobbyZone Champ to compliment my growing micro collection. This plane is, without a doubt, the best flying micro plane Ive had the pleasure of flying. Its a bit larger than the Ultra Micro Cub and flies oh sooo sweet.
I was doing rudder rolls and inverted flight with the little Champ outside this afternoon Grab a little altitude, push full rudder, then full down elevator as she rolls inverted, and release as she comes back around. Easy to do and alot of fun from a plane with such generous dihedral. Inverted flight is a little more tricky; I pull back on the stick like I'm going to do a roll, and as she goes inverted, release and give about 50% down elevator and it will hold inverted flight. It takes quite a bit of rudder to keep it from rolling over though.
The Sukhoi's in the photos belong to bsbauman and HomeDaddy. The new SU26XP is quite the performer when compared to the original. bsbauman was doing some pretty clean knife edge's a few seconds after it's maiden flight
Great flying little Suk indeed

Heres some pics of my 1st meeting with the ATL RC Heli club. I took quite a few pics and narrowed it down to my favorite ones. Most of them are of a Trex 700N piloted by Joey Scott. I met some new friends and got a couple of nice flights in myself. The thunderstorms were building but the wind stayed down and made for some great flying.
Already looking forward to next month's meeting...Continue Reading
