I have not posted here in a long time, so here we go with the catching up, again this year on the first of January the 3 generations of Gareau's were flying together. This year we could not go in the morning as usual so we ended up going at night with the Night flying Cub. This was a first for my father and I think he really enjoyed flying in total darkness. We also have been flying indoors on every Sunday. Here are 2 videos of my son Alex having fun with the ALIEN, a plane he designed himself last year.

Yesterday was an amazing day of flying, Alexandre and I both had our 78'' EF Extras flying. After successful maidens and 4 or 5 solo flights each we started formation flying. We obviously need ALOT of practice but this is going to be fun.

I have been designing F3P style Depron indoor planes for a couple of years now. I really enjoy the slow speed of these planes and there precise handling even if I dont enter any competitions. I have been sharing what I have learned with other flyers in the form of workshops for three years now. My son Alexandre has always followed me and assisted me in these workshops and now at the mature age of ten years old he asked me if he could design his own plane. I said yes, took out some paper a strait edge and a set of french curves and let him at it. When he was finished I was very surprised at the design he came up with. It took very few corrections to get what I thought would be a pretty good Freestyle type airplane. We named it The Alien. Here are some pics of it, we were flying it today and it really is very good and Alexandre was flying it like pro and hovering and torque rolling it no problem.

Please share with us youre experiences at designing and building your own

Well we where 6 days late this year due to scheduling conflics, but we did it. Our first flight of the year is usually on January first but this year we had to wait untill January 7th for the three generations of Gareau to fly together. We went out today with three planes and put in several flights. So ounce again Ray (grand dad), Richard (dad) and Alexandre took turns flying keeping up the tradition started by Ray in the early 60's.

From the Gareau clan we again wish you all a great new year with the good health that will allow you to put in alot of flying this year.

About 3 years ago my son asked if he could go flying model airplanes with his grandfather. I said yes and bought him a Parkzone Cub. He learned how to fly with it and then went on to other plane but we always found a way to bring out the Cub ounce in a while. We carried a key chain cam with it, drop parachutes and missiles from it, flew it on skies, wheels and floats. This little Cub brought the three generations of Gareau's together for our January first New Year Day fly and more. With well over 200 flights on it, it found a new way to make it in the car on the weekends by becomming a Night Flyer

I have been flying models for a very long time and yesterday was one of the best days of flying ever!!!

Alexandre and I went to Napierville Quebec for a full day of flying with great friends and great weather what more can a modeler ask for. Alex and I put in about 12 flights between 11:30 am and 9:00 pm even putting in 2 night flights with Alexandre Supercub night flyer. The style of relaxed flying that this club has is extroardinary, people smile, there is no rush, it is real relaxation as a hobby should be.

Thank you Jean Chevalier, André, Jean-Pierre, Yves, Pierre, Bruno and of course Diane for an amazing day of fun....Continue Reading

We headed to the Ottawa Region this morning for the RIDEAU RC FLYERS ELECTRIC EVENT. If it is not flooded in your neighbourhood it is pretty much everywhere here. The field was suffering from a lot of rain in the last month plus the snow melting and just for good measure a big thunder storm just last night. So after getting stuck in the mud we unpacked the car, started to assemble planes and finally we started flying! We flew the Sbach, Projetti, GeeBee and more. I got to see people I had not seen in some 30 years and overall had a great day. Special thanks to Pierre Audette, Sean, Eric, Michel, Gerry, Peter, Don and all the others.

My Son Alexandre turned 10 this past March. He gave up multiple gifts to have everybody concentrate on one gift. His Seagull Gee Bee model Z. We went out and had a successful maiden flight tonight, and besides having to land it with slightly higher airspeed then a trainer the plane is very easy to fly.

We only fly electric so this ARF is electrified.

We went back to Napierville today to give a one day indoor foamy workshop. Twelve people had signed up for it and by 10:00 am everybody was there so we got started. I built a depron f3p design of mine that is milled and incorporates pretty much all the techniques commonly used in the building of these types of planes. The twelve club members that were present seemed to be pleased with the workshop and by 4:00 pm we had a completed a ready to fly airplane that we then raffled off to the people that took the workshop.

I hope I got there creative juices flowing and that more people will get the indoor bug and the building bug because of this. Here are some pictures I took today but seing how I was giving the workshop I did not have alot of time for pictures...

Those who enjoy larger scale models probably know Mr. Jean Chevalier. Jean has flown his beautiful large scale models at events like Top Gun, Old Rhinebeck, US Scale Masters and many more. He, of course brought home more than his fair share of trophies and awards. Well, Jean and his lovely wife Diane not only attend and compete they are also extremely generous with their time and always get involved in organizing local events as well. Today Alexandre and I packed the car with our indoor planes to go fly with the good people of Saint-Cyprien de Napierville a beautiful quiet town in the Montérégie region of Québec. I have not spent a lot of time there, but it seams to me that wherever you have to go in that city it is either besides the big church, in front of the big church or in back of the big church... I truly envy them for not having the stress of the larger city. This serenity even comes through in the model flying. These guys have a great time in the local school gym (yes, right besides the big church) every Sunday afternoon after having breakfest together. Flying in a calm and civilised way purely for the fun of it. Keep it up! It really is a great time. Thank you Jean, Diane, André and Jean-Pierre and all the others for allowing Alexandre and I to fly with you and we will be back soon.

This morning we decided to drive to Trois-Rivières to fly indoor with them. We meet with a great bunch of guys in a kosy gym. These guys have access to the gym from 9:00AM to 3:00PM and through out the day guys come and go. It seems like at one point there must of been 50 people in that little gym yet there were very few mid-airs and the day whent by quickly. Alexandre got to maiden his new camo Vantage and alot of fun was had by all. Thanks to my friend Pierre Morel for the coroplast combat planes he put together (more on those later) for Alexandre and Thanks to the CARC Trois-Rivières for orginizing a great activity.

Merci au gens de Trois-Rivières pour une très belle journée, Alexandre et moi espérons être de retour bientôt pour voler avec vous.
