Will write up some details on this later, but notice the double box, braces, and plenty of bubble wrap. Plus pics with a current newspaper just in case there is any damage in shipping and you have to file with Greyhound.
Greyhound is the only truly economical way to ship planes and so far I have had great success with them. Never shipped or recieved a plane that was damaged. If more people would consider this, then maybe more of the for sales would not be LPU only on complete planes.
Local Hobby shops will often have a selection of good size boxes on shipment day which can be used to "build your own box". Buying corrugated is just not economical. As is, I spent about $25 on bubble wrap and tape for this package.
The only catch is that you have to take the box to a Greyhound station and it has to be picked up at a Greyhound station.
This 48" box at 10lbs will be $44 from Charleston, SC to San Jose, Ca
Cheapest UPS Rate - $107
A 72" 15lbs box would be $64.
Cheapest UPS Rate - $244 and the box can be no more than 20"
wide and high.
One thing to consider is the $300 max declared value. A good reason to pack well and take plenty of pics. It also may be worthwhile to consider shipping electronics in flat rate boxes and using Greyhound for fuse & wings if you are worried about the declared value.
