Having flown the 51" AJ Slick the next plane i looked at was the 3D Hobby Shop 47" Edge 540. Again this came from ADC Hobbystore in the USA and was fitted out to fly on 3s with a very light setup. This plane was probably where I learned to fly the basics of 3D more so than any other plane, the very floaty feel of this plane allowed me to learn all the aspects of harrier flight and also violent manouves such as blenders and knife edge spins properly.
Once I had immersed myself into the world of 3D flying I'd gotten hold of Phoenix flight simulator and also sold my DX6i for a DX7 and started to progress learning the majority of 3D manouvers and practising whenever I could. I eventually bought the 51" AJ Slick from ADC Hobbystore in the USA and for a time was all I flew when and wherever I could! I haven't got many pictures of this one as It met its death about a month later when i'd put an un-charged battery in and went in nose first from about 10 feet
After having the Ultimate and discussing with a guy at my LHS he pointed me in the direction of Sebart and more specifically toward the SU29 30E, this was my first venture away from E-Flite at the time and what seemed to me like a really big model at the time, I enjoyed this plane although had an issue with the motor box braking whilst perofrming knife edge spins. In the end I sold this one on as I'd come across 3D Hobby Shop in the USA and my next goal was to get the 51" AJ Slick.
With a taste for aerobatics my next move was toward 3D flight so I bought the E-Flite Ultimate around the same time I also got the E-Flite Taylorcraft, I saw it and from the start loved the classic look of it. The Ultimate was a good aeroplane however I couldn't seem to do many of the common 3D moves to start off with as it was fairly nose heavy due to the location of the battery.
Realising that i was getting a taste for doing aerobatics, I moved away from foam and got an E-Flite Mini Pulse, at first i put a 450 motor in but eventually after about 10 flights with it I upgraded to the 480. This was the first plane I learn't to do knife edge with, as well as a whole array of other non 3D manouvers, I have since sold this onto a friend who still flys it to this very day.
Continuing with the warbird theme, my girlfriend bought me the E-Flite Hawker Sea Fury for Christmas '08 and I fitted it with an E-Flite 480 motor and also the retracts, this was a great looking and flying model and one that still flies today but with a new owner. Once I got the taste for warbirds, In my eyes I stepped up and got the E-Flite P38 Lightning from my LHS. Here are the 2 around February '09:-
After having the Trojan and the T34 I then decided to go down the warbird route and bought the Parkzone Corsair pretty much as soon as it came out, the first flight ended with a broken prop after it floated soooo long and landing I ran out of runway and into a fence
Having learnt on the Trojan I decided I wanted to go bigger so bought my first balsa ARTF which was the E-Flite T34 Mentor that also came with a DX6i, the first flight was very eventuful as i managed to take off with the ailerons reversed however quickly re-progrmming my brain I managed to fly a reversed control circuit and land keeping it all in one piece, again this was later sold on after i'd done a little customising by adding a couple of pilots and also some Robart scale strut covers on the landing gear. :-
Well it all started around August '08 when a friend of mine brought round a Supercub to have a go with, having had about 3 flights with that I soon found myself ordering a Parkzone T28 Trojan. After 2 unsucessful flights I bought a new airframe and did some customising, this one lasted for a long while until it was eventually sold on:-
